So they can wait one year and he's free. No reason for them to pay his worth. I understand it was his dream move, but he's fucked us over good.
If they don't pay what we think he's worth he stays for another year but on his current supposedly low paying contract.
He and Marseille will lose a year
And who knows whether Marseille will .snage a European Cup place again next year
Maybe then, other teams will seem more desirable to Illy

If he does end up going and he starts smashing it in Ligue 1 hopefully people on here remember the French league standard is quite a bit worse than the Premier League and it wouldn't necessarily mean he'd be banging one in every week over here! Lacazette was no. 2 top scorer in League Un with 27 goals in 35 games - his prior PL seasons with Arsenal had 4, 13 and 10 goals from 30+ games each season. Paqueta was a massive signing for West Ham but his goals + assists and xGI per 90 halved vs. prior two seasons in Ligue 1, Caleta-Car came to Soton from Marseilles but ended up only having 9 starts in the end, Wout Faes looked pretty shaky for Leicester for a €17m signing etc.

If he wants to go, then he's going to have to go.

We really don't want to be holding him to a contract, even if he says he's happy to stay,

He'll just be not wanting to get injured and jeopardise his dream move and life securing contract. He won't be fully committed. We need players who want to play for sheffield united.

I'm gutted. Up there with Dean and Brooks as the most exciting players I've ever seen for united.

I hope its all just tittle tattle, noise and nonsense. But fear the worst.

Depending who and what you read it is coming off a bit like the last Sander Berge transfer saga this. That also had more foreign media reporters reporting a supposedly done deal etc.

True, almost all of these reports are coming from French media.
As of now, there's no indication that a substantive bid has been placed, and there's no indication that they intend to meet our valuation.
We still hold the cards, and we get to name the price.

It is on the BBC website gossip column but they are just quoting L'Équipe.

What a bizarre situation.

A player who is still under contract, and is rumoured to have agreed a 5 year contract with another club, allegedly before they have even made an offer.

Assuming this is true, then I would love to think that someone is telling Marseille to fuck off and stop tapping up our player.

After this has happened, I would also love to think that someone is telling the lad that he has two choices. He either winds down his contract on 4k (?) per week and then walks to Marseille for free in 12 months, or he signs an extension on a whopping pay increase, with a reasonable release fee that his besties could easily afford in 12 months anyway.

Either way he plays in the PL for a season and he plays every week, so take your pick of wages young man.

Marseille are obviously going around every french Media telling them to say done deal trying to put pressure on us.

Hopefully we won't budge on firm asking price

Hopefully a decent sum as well and none of these bullshit prices floating round French media currently.

He's an absolute baller, and I've loved watching him play. Sublime skill, energy, speed and determination - he's got it all. He's destined for a bigger club than ours.

In terms of negotiations the Prince is excellent at it, McCabe would have rolled over and had his tummy tickled by now, but the Prince is more shrewd than that. We are in good hands, let's see how this all plays out.

If he has signed a pre-agreement then he has essentially fucked us over negotiating a fair payment. Not sure what's so difficult to understand?
Genuine question: How do you think having personal terms agreed in principle impacts our ability to negotiate a fair payment?

As far as I see it, all it does is indicate that it's not a waste of time for the two clubs to start negotiating. I suspect it happens in most transfers now.

Any pre agreement between Ndiaye & Marseille signed now isn't worth the paper it's written on, and it's definately not binding with United. He's not under Bosman yet, and he can't pre contract with a foreign club until January.

When you get a bid finally accepted on FM on the last day of the window.. only for the player to refuse to even negotiate a contract 😭

It’s not tapping up. Players within their final year of contract are allowed to talk to other clubs. I think it’s last 12 months abroad and 6 months domestic.

Im pretty sure it's the final 6 months universally as it's a FIFA ruling rather than an FA rule.

Happy to be corrected tho

Fucked us over good..? 🤣 He hasn't gone yet ffs! Stop believing the french press you muppet. Have faith in the lad
On holiday since last Monday

Tune in to this thread every morning and turn to the wife and say - he’s gone -

Wtf is going on ?

Comments like - he’s fkd us over - etc etc

And it seems - 5 days in - he hasn’t gone at all

Some posters are barking fkin bat shit

Just checked and yep it's 6 months universally.

"What is a pre-contract in football and when can they be signed?
A pre-contract is an agreement between a player that club that commits to a move being made once the player’s current deal comes to a close.

This allows interested parties to line up recruitment business well before it is actually completed, with long-term planning put in place.

Said talks can be opened up to six months before the expiration of a previous agreement in alternative surroundings.

That rule was put in place as part of the famous 1995 Bosman ruling relating to freedom of movement for professional footballers.

Any player running down their deal can now sign for another club with no fee having to change hands.

FIFA regulations state: "A club intending to conclude a contract with a professional must inform the player’s current club in with a formal offer before entering into negotiations with him.

"A professional shall only be free to conclude a contract with another club if his contract with his present club has expired or is due to expire within six months.

"Any breach of this provision shall be subject to appropriate sanctions."

Agreed a 5 year deal yet Marseille apparently have not made an official offer?

Think that's ndiayes agent has agreed a 5 year deal but have yet got to clear it with SUFC We have to be satisfied with the fee which is reported as being anything from 2 to 17m. I think that's nowhere near enough. If it's undisclosed then that is a tragic outcome

I’m envisioning the Marseille delegation to be reminiscent of Bonasera in the Godfather, whilst the Prince and his delegation hold power against his grovelling request. The Fredo Corleone of the operation Steve Bettis is back in the UK as he’s too much of a risk. Gary Sinclair acts as Luca Brasi, outside the room, listening, waiting for the instruction to enter if talks get hostile.

He has to be careful if he’s running down his agreement with us and before he signs a pre contract with OM, as he could suffer a JOC, like injury and then he has nothing.

This is classic, make it be known to the public that we are interested after we’ve already spoken to the agent and provided the player with an idea of what he will get.

A) We’ll put in a cheap offer “our terms” if it’s rejected so be it, we’ll pick you up on a free.

B) Submit no actual bid create a media frenzy player then has assurances so runs down his contract and he goes on a free.

What we should do is (extremely controversial) say to Marseille you can have Ndiaye now but for £25m, if you don’t except that bid, we’ll freeze him out of the squad. It’s puts pressure on Marseille and his agent to act in the interest of him, if they respect him as a human being they put Billy big bollocks financial f**kery to one side and stop chatting shit.

Pay up or will take the lot with us. How’s about that for trying to play the big man, we own his registration and his ability to develop or go backwards. AFCON I think not.
