If Illi has to go then we need to hold out for the best price. The press seem to be indicating that Marseille are not rich and can't afford 20 mill, but somehow they paid 32m euros in the Jan 23 window for a Portuguese player.

I think they are probably trying it on using the emotional ties as a tool to keep the fee down.

This might be his only shot at playing for OM, anything can happen in football as we all know, of course we all believe he will end up being a top prospect at a top team in one of worlds best leagues but nothing is guaranteed
That is true.

But I'm not happy about it being true.

Must admit I rattles my chains when a player we give a chance to jumps ship for the money like Che Adam’s did when we gave him a chance. Hate to see Ndiaye go that way for more than one reason like I’ve just mastered spelling his name.

Could be argued SUFC should have tied him down much sooner.

Hardly jumping ship at the first opportunity.

He turned down offers in January and saw us through to a promotion. He's done 2/3 years of his contract and I'm sure would happily see out the whole thing were a dream offer (like Marseille) come along this Summer.

When considering whether Ndiaye should be "loyal" and sign a new deal with us, remember this...
He didn't like our contract offer last time and we refused to let him play first team football or send him on loan until he signed. Eventually a deal was reached but most fans at the time backed out stance on looking after ourselves in negotiations.
He is now doing the same and some are calling him greedy for it. Ridiculous.

Personally, if I was Ndiaye, I'd play this year out and leave on a free next Summer. You'd expect him to do well in the PL, even in a struggling side.
He'll then have no shortage of suitors and bag himself a whopping signing on fee and a long contract on big wages.

I don't foresee any scenario in which he signs a new deal here, it makes very little sense to.
It's up to the club whether they stick or twist.

Probably the best league in the world in producing players the french.

It's amazing how people are describing a Champions League winning club who play in a 60,000 seat stadium as effectively tinpot
Yeah, I can understand people don't want him to go. And i can see how that can sometime cloud their judgement of things.

But that's a bit of leap to ''BuT wHy WoUlD hE wAnT ChAmPs LeAgUe WhEn He CaN StAy HeRe AnD LoSe 2-0 tO vIlLa AwAy''.

What's Illi on a week now? 10K? That's half a million a year. What's the point in them selling a load of Ikea shit for £30 a pop? Even if he's on half of that, the point stands. Reminds me of this Eddie Murphy bit:

I don’t reckon Illi’s on anything like £10k a week, he’s still on the same contract he signed as effectively a youth player just breaking into the team under Jokanovic. The rumour I heard was £4k a week, which is only £200k a year, so he needs every penny he can get.

I think I must be the only fan who thinks this is the right thing to do.
1. To lose him for free would be stupid in the extreme.
2. He’s a OM fan so it doesn’t look like we’ll be able to talk him out of it.
3. We got promoted last time and finished 9th without him.
4. We can’t sign one player that will be as good as him but with the money we could sign a couple of players to go straight into the team that could make us stronger.
5. Replacements on 3/4 year contracts provide long term stability whatever division we’re in.
6. We had some average performances as a team last season and so did he.

Since the end of last season our fan base seem to have elevated him to be almost Diego Maradonna reincarnated.
Don’t get me wrong I love Illy and would like nothing more than for him to sign a new contract but when you realise that’s not happening then we have to be sensible and sell asap !
I think the real issues though are points 3 and 4.

3 - We don’t have a system or USP style of play like we did last time. If anything, we lack a real identity of play and we were very reliant last year on Ily, McAtee and Doyle to create anything. It’s debatable but in my opinion, we’re a significantly weaker squad in the whole at this point then what we went up with last time. Key for me is the midfield (Anis an unknown so we’ll see) is miles off where it needs to be to compete. I don’t think we can look to what happened last time as a comparative.

4- Agreed we won’t get a replacement for illy but let’s say we get 17m for him… which I don’t think we will. How are we able to capture 2-3 players at current price levels to compete at prem level for this or go straight in the team ? Adding to this , we need them now with pre-season and round the corner. It takes time to wrap 2-3 deals like that up. Doyle would cost more than that alone for example. Look at the players we’re being linked with. All unknown and have barely played continually at championship level before. Don’t get me wrong, they could slot in and be brilliant like Anel but we’ll need to be realistic and give them time to adapt.

So where does that leave us? If Ily wants to go, then I’d say we need a fee level pushing on £30m to feel a bit more comfortable and maybe get 2 at a push to slide straight in and compete at this level. We aren’t going to get that from OM. The alternative is we say no, he sees his contract out and I think we have a better chance of staying up with him in the squad than taking a chance on players with no experience playing at this level. The income of staying up for another year outweighs £17m we receive. We wouldn’t receive most of that upfront either so there’s not much help there.

It’s really difficult but I fully understand many feeling it’s the wrong thing to do to sell at all. I can’t help but feel completely underwhelmed at how we’re gearing up for this campaign. It already feels like we’re way behind in squad improvements and to then be faced with losing our best player a few weeks out before the start, for a cut price… yeah, I can completely get why the mood is sour. Its hard to realistically be positive about our chances.

What it does show, is just how important it was for us to get promoted last season. That’s one thing to be positive about… we would have been absolutely done for financially this season if we hadn’t.

They're alright but they're not exactly Wednesday are they?

Nah the bars around the stadium are filled with Wednesday Chups chups shirts hung on every wall.

They only get 60k cos they missed out on Wednesdays 30k £400 season ticket offer.

Oreyt I don't sgree. I think what most, including me, can't really understand is why OM? If he went to any of the bigger PL clubs or Inter Milan, Juve, AC Milan, Bayern Munich, PSG etc it would be understandable.

Ok OM are his boyhood team etc but they aren't one of Europe's elite and he has another 10 years to go there. You'd expect him to go there after a couple of big contracts.

OM over the Blades...yes OK....but OM over bigger PL and Europe clubs ???

Someone said they have seen his missus selling all their clobber on FB Marketplace but I can't find it! Could be done and dusted today.

Be sad to not see him not turn out in Prem but if he wants the move and the money is right, can't begrudge him.

You’re splitting hairs really

They are playing in the champions league, the biggest stage of all - they have WON a champions league. They have a massive ground. Pretty decent chance you could win the French league and certainly cups.

Say the blades were based in France - were going to make you a multi millionaire, you get to move home. You get to play the highest level and challenge for trophies domestically.

Is that not prefereable to maybe finishing 4th with spurs or whatever here? We overrate the draw of the PL.

And everyone still seems to ignore the fact that if he excels for Marseille he can STILL make the move to a top PL side or Bayern, Barca or whatever if they think he’s good enough.

Might be clutching at straws but I’m not sure the club would post him returning to pre-season all smiles for the camera, several pictures and tag him in a clip of the first game if they thought his departure was imminent.

The market place pictures could have easily been faked. Nick someone else’s advert and stick Illimans mrs name and picture on it.
Perhaps we a 'trolling' OM - "pay the money or he stays at SUFC" that's what I would do, rather than hiding him away, upload media videos of him training with us and having fun.

They've been sorting stuff in house for a while though.

He's deffo moving house I reckon, whether that is going to be abroad or not dunno.
Somehow unless it's already agreed I'm not sure that you would bank on United agreeing to a sale immediately and start moving.

I suspect that as it stands they are moving to another house in Sheffield. But good chance it might end up being France if things change.

Maybe he doesn’t want to play in the Premier League it’s something that’s not been said but maybe he doesn’t want the challenge loads like that. It’s an easier ride in the French League. Prove me wrong and sign for dem Blades

But earning 3* times as much.
Figure is for illustrative purposes only but considered to be realistic.

Marseilles are rumoured to be paying Alexis Sanchez 115k a week. Is not like he’s going to be on nothing and Marseille are going to be paying peanuts

And it’s generational wealth. Him and his children will never need to work again. There’s no lifestyle change really once you get past a certain wage
