Severe boozing in Oxford

Looks like nothing much near ground, plenty of pubs in town centre and No.5 bus from station takes about half an hour to stadium.

I'll be going with a bunch of two hat numpties (@Highbury_Blade, moDtheGod, BladeInThatcham and Balham Blade). Imagine we'll be boozing in some real ale pubs in the centre and getting a taxi to the ground. From previous visits I thought there were quite a few decent boozers. I am away at the moment, so have not consulted my real ale guide, but we might have a few lads who live in Oxford joining us that can help us out. PM me if you fanc joining us Jehovah.

Working near Oxford I know a few people that have lived there a while so have done a bit of research. A couple of real ale pubs definitely recommended are the 'Lamb and Flag' and the 'Eagle and Child'. They are bang opposite eachother thus offering a decent meeting place I reckon. I reckon they are about 10-15 walk from the station.
There will be plenty of pubs on route but many of them are of the modern kind serving plenty of lager and not well kept ales.
Incidently, for those of you who like a bit of history, the eagle and child is one of Oxford's most famous pubs being frequented in the past by authors such as C.S Lewis, J.R.R Tolkein et al.

King's Arms on Holywell Street is a lot nicer than Far from the Madding Crowd in my opinion, if anyone is going for a big session I'd recommend a stop there. It's also near to the very touristy Turf Tavern but which has quite a good selection, great location and great beer garden area. Both are student-heavy, if that's off-putting to anyone I'd recommend you stay away! Both are not far from High St either which has bus stops with buses going to Blackbird Leys and the ground.

If you fancy a decent curry to soak your ale up, and you're staying in the Premier Inn up in Cowley,I can recommend Malikas on Cowley Road.

Went there with a party of 15 recently and it was bob on..

There's also plenty of watering holes on Cowley Road to make a night of it too!
