it means wilson knows were in dire need of a new player or 3, but he knows mcacbe is tighter than a swans fanny. the only way were paying 200k for a winger is if somehow we sell maguire for 5 million. and even then he'll have to steal it from his wallet before he notices.
 
mccabe has no foresight whatsoever. other clubs sign players as investments. knowing its the only way to improve the team, thereby improving the chances of success. plus the player you buy can increase in value, if you buy wisely. mccabe just thinks its a game of chance, bung anybody in the team it doesnt matter. if we get an offer for a great player, to him its the same as if we get an offer for a donkey. take the money. its all down to luck anyway. he thinks like your average gambler down the bookies, not a businessman.

I agree.

The bung any player in approach worked when Warnock was here as he could get some sort of performance from random players. We are now actually trying to build a squad that is serious about playing football not some fucking hoof it and hope football of days gone by. McCabe needs to realize this and the sooner he does the better then we may actually keep our decent youngsters for more than a season or so. Especially if he cannot afford to open the wallet to lure a half decent player in to the club.

Still do not know why we are looking at strikers though.

no me neither. well, i think ideally we could do with shipping out 3 or 4 strikers and bringing in 1 of better quality. but we all know that isn't going to happen. if we get in a winger and a central midfielder (without losing anybody important like maguire or mcdonald) then i'd be delighted, though i can't see it happening. blackman, kitson, miller (and porter if he isn't moved on to facilitate a signing) isn't ideal but it ought to be good enough in this league. i'm really disappointed with cresswell, i knew he was heading to the end of his career but i thought he could still do a job this season. and cofie is a total waste of space. no idea who's paying his wages, but if we're paying anything towards them we really should get rid of him.

in any business you need to spend money, to make money. even in a failing one. if all we are doing is "avoiding administration" then inevitably we will just get worse as a team every year. crowds will fall every year, decreasing turnover in every aspect of the business. making administration inevitable. everything is a gamble, but if we go out and spend say 200k on 2 promising young players the chances are in our favour that either a) they help us get promotion. or b) they retain their sell-on value or even increase in value. you don't get anywhere in business or football by "playing it safe". we need to be as bold as we can, without making stupid decisions like we have before and sign a load of old has-beens on long contracts. just cos the board and managers have cocked it all up time and time again, doesn't mean we should just give up and basically pray things go ok. standing still is financial suicide.

Like Southampton, QPR, Palace, Leeds, Charlton, Leicester and Middlesborough you mean?
Yeah that would be disastrous we'd probably end up having to pay off 1% off our debts and having to keep and rely on our homegrown talent.

There's an irony in there though isn't there?

Those who are stopping going (ie investing in the business) expect that someone else does, and if it pays off they can return, or not if it doesn't.

It's a fact of life, I realise. But how efficient people (think they) are in spending someone else's money always makes be smile.

I work in Insolvency and I have seem numerous businesses fail by taking this route. Any business needs a correct structure and to live within its means. Something which we plainly haven't done since we get relegated from the Premiership.

There is an initial spend for new businesses but the idea after that is to run at a profit.

I have seen businesses fail as they keep borrowing more and more on the pretence everything is OK. The business fails and the personal guarantees kick in or the banks claim on their security

Many directors still want to live the lifestyle of the good times without adjusting to reality. United have taken 4 years too late to realise this. You can cut costs and improve performance and invest from the profit you make.

United took on players they couldn't afford under Robson and Blackwell which has left us fucked. Our directors tried to live the lifestyle without the funds to justify it. If we lived within our means when we came down(i.e. no Beattie,Ehiogu,Hendrie etc) we would not be in the mess we are now and would be able to budget for higher wages (i.e invest). Surely a strike pairing of henderson and sharp would have got us up with Webber,Hulse and Kabba as back up ?

You can't keep chucking money at something that is making a loss and if you throw money at a failing business,you might as well flush it down the loo.

The biggest killer of most companies is negative cash flow and we are at the stage where only McCabe's cash injections have been keeping us afloat

McCabe pumping money in to service the debt that he created by borrowing in the first place................ £12 million a year and not even making a dent in what we owe, yeah right even McCabe isn't stupid enough to keep on shelling that out ??? nah surely not. He has ring fenced the ground and academy when we reach 60pts be worried, be very worried.
