Not having a jab ay anyone but replacing Berge who are we talking about?
I'd trade him for Choudery if we could afford Choudery's wages.
Doyle but £10m is not enough money + wages.
O'Brien? I've watched this kid's reels on the net and I can't see what the fuss is about (I'm not a Huddersfield fan or scout so it was the only way); I'm assuming somebody raved about him and everybody just agreed how fantastic he was.
Most of the other names have not even played more than a season at Championship level, so we'd be losing a capable Premier league player for a 'maybe'. And the fine lines between winning or drawing a game or even just scoring the extra goal which saves United are not worth risking.
obrien was the best midfielder in the championship when he was at huddersfield but for some reason forest didnt play him he would be a great replacement for fleck if we keep playing the same system

Great article that.

Tells me that Berge is unlikely to sign a new contract and may leave this summer, or may stay until next summer when his contract expires.

Now tell me something I don't know please Football Insider.

What a load of bollocks

It's not new news really.

We might sell him this summer but if we don't get wants to leave at the end of his deal. Same applies to N'Diaye.

It is however scandalous if we don't even attempt to change that narrative.
We may be trying but everything is so quiet again aside from potential outgoings.

Sounds like he could be gone this summer:

"As such, it is believed club chiefs feel this summer could be the best time to sell – with the midfielder able to negotiate a free transfer exit to a foreign side in January 2024."

How much do you reckon we'd get - £10m?

Sorry but you hang on to your best players….I’m sure this talk of Sander going for 10m has come from agents etc, there’s no way Hecky would want to lose him especially for a paltry sum.
A not so good comparison of a players worth in his last season of contract is Mason Mount (55m and rising)…tin hat on with that one…if somebody wants a player bad enough then he retains value.
Choudry / Obrien as a replacement is laughable although I would take either as an addition.
No brainer …he stays even if he goes for nowt in the end…⚔️

A club like ours can't afford to let everyone walk on frees.
There's an optimum time to sell players and we haven't been very good at it.

You mention Mount... he won't be at Chelsea next season. They're selling him to balance the books and mitigate the risk of losing an asset for nothing.
We need to be mindful that we do the same.

What are you basing this on?
How much of him have you seen?
He has played 3 full seasons for them and not appeared in EFL Team of the season in either of the 20/21 or 21/22 when these were drawn up.
He was HTFC Player of the year in 2020.
He can't get in a struggling Notts Forest side.
And this isn't just a question for you but for everybody; who can say they have seen enough of O'Brien to make a decent judgement call on him because the stats and his Youtube highlights don't bear it out.

If O' Brien was any good he would be a regular in the forest team, as of last season he ain't..

Ndiaye and Berge are similar in one respect and that being if they let their contracts run down they can command more from whoever they eventually sign for.
At that point however it ends Ndiaye could go to any of a dozen of the better sides in the Prem, whilst Berge let's face it talk of him going to Liverpool is laughable. Perhaps half a dozen of the weaker teams would take a punt on him, no wonder he's waiting to see how United do before making his choice of clubs.

100%. Wolves and Chelsea are both selling decent players who are assets instead of them leaving on frees next summer. Not comparing Berge to Mount and Neves but 10m - 15m is alot of money for us.

Whereas Blackburn rejected 12m for Diaz last summer are now losing him for FREE.

Different situations though If Diaz had scored the goals to get Blackburn promoted it was a worthwhile gamble. United also gambled last season, sometimes it works and sometimes it doesn't.
You should never gamble more than you can afford to lose.

We were very lucky that our gamble paid off otherwise come next May we could have been competing with Wendy for bottom place.

Agree to an extent.

Sometimes you have to play the odds though. At 10/11 points clear and a game in hand (or whatever it was) but with a precarious injury-record, last season was the right time to keep hold and gamble.

That's not said simply with benefit of hindsight. If we'd sold Berge and Ndiaye in Jan we wouldn't have made it.

Chelsea can replace Mount easily. Ndiaye especially is irreplaceable.

I agree. Next season's team would've been very different, the following season would be the youngsters (who are decent so not a total disaster).

10-15m for one of your key players in trying to win another £100m for the club is absolute peanuts, especially when you consider the cost of replacing him.

Biggest waste of money. He will probably end up at West Ham then sold off to some obscure European team after a season.

Get rid quick!

Would be sad to see Berge go now to be honest for what would be £10m, we're very unlikely to find a like for like replacement for that, or even double that. I was of the view that losing Berge in January wouldn't be a big loss as long as we got O'Brien (I know they're different players) but Berge was one of our best players last season and when we played PL opposition in the cup you could see the difference he makes, he just oozes time on the ball. I love the 7/10 players like everyone else does but we need that extra bit of quality to stay up and Berge provides that. Unless there's someone out there that's as good that we can realistically bring in I'd rather lose him for nothing next season.

Berge appears to have never rocked the boat either and asked for a transfer, that's real credit to him, he seems a top pro as well as a very good player.

Totally agree.

Yeah that’s it. I forgot about that. He’s been immense for 3 games.
Hey if you don’t like Sander that’s fine, we can disagree all day and night

Biggest waste of money though is entirely different and why I quoted you

Particularly given how no one knows for sure how much we bought him for

But if you want to continue hating that’s fine

I was his biggest fan. I thought we had signed a storming midfielder. He didn’t turn out that way hence being a big waste of money.

Oh and hates a strong word and it’s one I ain’t used so take that back. :)

That’s fair enough on the word hate mate, happy to take that back

I actually thought he was brought in as CDM, to take over from Norwood so the extra attacking stuff was just a bonus

Depends on how you want to look at it I suppose

I have nothing against the Brewster lad, it’s not his fault he was bought for however much but I think he has provided less

And that’s just one example

That’s what I thought as well with the CDM role.
Brewster, Berge and McBurnie all high priced signings that haven’t shown much. Shame really.

Part of that Football Insider article is just trash. There’s no way Berge “has his heart set on quitting.” Every window opens and we speculate about Berge not wanting to be here, and every window Berge is a total professional and shows us that he does, in fact, love playing here, kissing the badge, etc. And now that he has a shot at playing top opposition with the Blades, it’s just not plausible that he is itching to leave. I’m going to give Sander the benefit of the doubt until proven otherwise. He has earned that imo

I think both Berge and McBurnie have shown but that’s just my own opinion, who knows eh lol 😂
