Did you read what I wrote? I'm not suggesting we blow the budget on him. If - and it's a massive if - he wanted to come to us this summer, but the wages, signing on fee etc. were too high, I'd advocate turning him down and spending the money we do have more effectively.
But my point was, and remains, that we can't move forward with the mindset of everyone in the dressing room being paid broadly the same. Remuneration should be based on several factors - on-field impact, dressing room influence, commercial opportunities (e.g. additional shirts sold, increased sponsorship revenue, etc.). What is should never be based on is sentiment, or an outdated idea that everyone should be paid the same.
