Tell you what, I moved to Italy a couple of years back. And every single time I say I’m from Sheffield people say ‘ah Sheffield United’. Every single time.

How times have changed in the last 10-15 years as when I was a nipper it was always Wednesday.

We are now the club synonymous with the city.

(This is not a biased exaggeration by the way, every single time it’s united. Some didn’t even know there was another team in Sheff)

This is so true. I've spoken to football fans in Spain and Montenegro and both said 'ah, Sheffield United' when I said I was from Sheffield. One lad from Seville, a Real Betis fan, had never heard of a team named after a day of the week.

The way I see it is that when someone refers to us as ‘ Sheffield ‘ , they are being far more disrespectful to our less fortunate brethren from across the city than to ourselves .

Personally I quite like it , and on a scale of 1-10 of things I could get ‘fuming’ about it scores zero .

Kind of a compliment because Sheffield in their eyes is United.

It's more of an insult to Wednesday as they aren't recognised.

It's the same when teams play Bristol City, everyone calls them Bristol.
However if Bristol Rovers were promoted so they are both competing in the same division, then people would use the full Bristol City or Bristol Rovers.

Basically it needs both United and Wednesday to be playing in the top flight
then both clubs will be referred to....by their full name.....in the meantime we are seen as the main club of Sheffield.

I agree it’s not a problem. Silver obviously thinks that there’s only one team in Sheffield and it’s us. I’ve been saying/singing that for over 50 years.
