Strange game today. The players looked really nervous for most of the match which seemed to be reflected in the stands based on how quiet the crowd was.

There were some really hairy defensive moments before finally, Jack Robinson's goal seemed to settle us down and lift everyone in the stadium. Another piece of sheer genius from the Senegalise Superstar and a welcome return and goal from Clarky and we were home and dry.

Good and honest report as usual pommpey. I think your score of 1/10 for Bogle is generous tbh; his form has dropped off a fuckin cliff over the last six weeks or so and I fear for his future at the club if he doesn't wake his ideas up.

Onwards to Tuesday night and if we do win v Bristol City, I think we'll be more or less over the line.

Great three points Blades.

Berge in and out of the game a couple of nice long passes including the assist to McAtee's goal. Still looks slow, lacks the tenacity that is needed.

Great win for us. Another three points and a result which should have been written all over the game from start to finish but at times wasn't. In fact there were brief moments when we looked like we didn't even deserve to win. It actually illustrates that although we are where we are and looking at promotion, we are so far short of having a PL prepared team that unless we fuck a few players off and buy better, next season aint gonna be much fun again.

Usual United start for us, first ten look in control and likely to make some mark but then fade badly and allow the opposition, in this case Cardiff who are really bobbary-ploppar to get back at us. After ten they made some nice ventures up the pitch and made us work hard and eventually won a corner. This was odd as Cardiff played so deep and just mopped us up. Suddenly they have a penalty courtesy of Lowe's high kick (and it was a penalty, you can't expect to get away with that) and we are 0-1 down. I'm grateful we went back at them and within minutes McAtee breaks through and equalises but all over the pitch today we looked either fragile in defence (both wingbacks) uncomposed in midfield (Berge especially) and starved of opportunity particularly in the first half. There were periods also when one felt Cardiff could do what so many teams have done in the past and nick all three points by managing an undeserved lead. But, thanks to a simply epic cross and bravery by Jackie Boy, some sublime wonder from NDaiye and a tap in from the returning Clark we got the scoreline we should have really looked like having.

Part of our problem is the thinness and lack of competition by either injury hit positions. LWB has just a tremendously poor Lowe vying for the billet, when one CB drops out we have to resort to the utility player Baldock filling in and free rein to another underperformer in Bogle. I get Hecky's idea of 3-4-2-1 today but with the players we had it clearly wasn't making much impact and Cardiff really had a particularly easy time until we realigned to a mor familiar 5-3-2 with Baldock back in his RWB role did we look better and furthered our lead.

That said, Cardiff did play with the ref on their side - another disturbingly appalling performance from and official - and Sky Sports Football literally blowing hot wind into Boro and Luton's sails throughout the match and right now in Gillette Soccer Satdi. I don't wish ill on anyone but a lump in the teste-bag of Andy Hinchcliffe wouldn't have me too sorrowful because of his fucking abject loathing of Sheffield United and reluctance to complement us until we were 4-1 up and home and hosed. Utter fucking piggy cunt wanker.

Fuck them all.

Davies 6.5/10: Not a bad game for him. Gathers and catches but one or two dangerous parries and punches. No chance with the penalty
Bogle 1/10: Low score because there wasn't much he did right today and his fucking stupid fuck up in the first half almost had us 1-2 down. Unless we see some sot of epiphany and a change in fortunes, he can fuck off at the end of the season and miss the chance to be referred to as a 'Premiership Player' because he is a long, long way from being one
Baldock 6/10: Did what he could in an unfamiliar role against a front pairing of tall, imposing front line. Not a great game because he was placed thus and really should have started in RWB with Clark in as RCB
Egan 6/10: Fairly solid with his usual array of headed clearances, some which weren't very impressive. Backheaded a chance late on into the kop
JLT 7.5/10: Robust and solid. A well taken goal too. Good comeback since the fuckup at Turf Moor
Lowe 2/10: Another weak underperformance and indicative of him having zero competition at LWB. Poor going forward and poor defending.
Berge 4/10: Business as usual for much of the game with rare flashes of vague capability
Doyle 8/10: Really like this bloke. Dug out blind and didn't give up. Get's a ful point also for a fucking sublime cross for Jackie's goal after a shit corner
McAtee 7/10: Good graft from him and put the fear of shit into the Cardiff defence. Leant on somewhat and booted about but a cracking individual goal
NDaiye 8/10: What a fucking player. Just sublime and never lets the opposition off the hook. Go back and look at his goal. He knew McGuiness would fuck up, chased the ball, sold the keeper with unbelievable deftness, rounded him and with a flicker of a grin, booted the ball into the empty Shoreham End net. The best player in red and white I have ever seen. There. I have said it. Better than Woodward and Currie. Better than Edwards and Bobby Ford.
McBurnie 6/10: Did his best to get stuck in but is at his best in our box as a Centre Back to be honest

Fleck 6.5/10: Back to get minutes before next week. Didn't do too badly and was odds on at one point to score if found with a pass
Clark 6/10: Brought more stability to the back three and allowed George back into his normal role. Good goal from distance (25mm)!
Norwood 5/10: Not much to report
Sharp 6/10: Caused them problems with his industry and fight and unlucky with a late chance
Jebbison 5/10: Not really in the game

HJ&SMcC 8/10: They can only do what they can do with what they have and let's face it, much of it is still Wilder's legacy. Still, three points and well earned in the end after some frosty moments and going a goal behind too.

pommpey
Bloody hell Pommpey, really harsh. Come on mate. Lowe & Bogle weren’t great but 1/2 out of 10

I would be of the same view as you Pommpey.
Though I would differ on some of the ratings. I thought Ndiaye was about a 7. Doyle was definitely an 8 even allowing for the fright of the night pass across our goals. From where I was sitting in BLUT, could see the intent with his passes . He gets his head up and tries to play incisive passes. Generally there is a good weight to them which gives the forward players a chance to control. Berge did actually hit one of those in the second half but as usual it is the stroll around the park and take the soft option.
I do find it funny that when there is a break in play that he gives advice to Doyle and McAtee.

Jack Robinson made 2 vital last minute headers in the six yard box. Both made when he would be reckoned to be second to the ball. He just flung himself at it. You have it spot on with the word fragile describing our defending. We haven’t looked composed at the back for months. Bogle seems to have lost his sparkle going forward or maybe its a case of defeners not rushing at him and making him do the work. Defensively Bogle has a poor understanding or reading of the game. He tends to panic a bit too.

Baldock worked hard but Clarke should have started and George at RWB with Bogle on the bench. The recruitment team could do with a lesson on the characteristics of a good player.

Bogle and Lowe can't defend. Berge doesn't tackle or have much drive. McBurnie no matter how hard one thinks he tries, is just not a striker. Norwood and Fleck are going over the hill at the end of their careers. In Fairness to Jack Robinson who looked like an accident waiting to happen in his early games for us, has improved considerably and appears to be good value in comparison to who else we bought with the exception of Anel.

As per very good read my take on ratings slightly differ

McB- painfully dire 1/0
Berge 4/10
Egan 7/10 only defender we have with brain cells

Ndiaye OMG HE IS FUCKING BRILLIANT

Whilst I don’t disagree with your mark for Berge I am beginning to think he is the most frustrating player I have seen at BL.
If you put together his “highlights “ from today’s match you would think he is Premiership class, but for the other 85 minutes he could be replaced by almost anyone in the crowd under 30 !!
What goes through his mind I have no idea and his inability to tackle is staggering for a professional footballer.

I'd have knocked a full two marks off Doyle for that unbelievable dribble and fuck up in his own box, first half
Not good 😐

We looked so much better at 3-1,nerves settled and we were much more relaxed. Could have scored anytime at the end.

Cheers pommpey, i rarely comment on the my take but today some of the comments were mine, i hate giving stick to our players but today watching bogle, lowe and berge being passengers was shocking. The rest all good so to get a positive result with 3 passengers was outstanding. Keep up the my take

Bit mean on McBurnie?

Spot on with motor mouth Ex Pig commentator and his what ifs. Clown.

Cardiff targeted our weak link down the right. Baldock out of position and Bogle who just can't defend as shown by the 5 minute period where the ball was pinging around our area leading to them hitting the cross bar. This led to Clark being brought on which should have happened much earlier. We looked more solid with Baldock at RWB and Egan moved to RCB to deal with the aerial bombardment. Clarks ability in the air was a bonus as was his goal. Mystery why he has not been given more game time.

Davies was very shaky at the start of the game rooted to his goal line which affected those in front of him leading to the corner from which Cardiff got their penalty. A good save before half time seemed to boost his confidence but he still looks a little flappy when the ball comes into the box. We made 5 subs today, credit to PH for that, which were at the right time and saw the game out comfortably when for the first hour we had looked out of sorts.

Points are all that matters now but Anel should be a welcome return on Tuesday as will Baldock playing in his natural position.

Bobby Ford 🤣🤣🤣🤣

Made a truly outstanding save just before HT which gave us the platform to go on to win when we were far from our best

Did well
And yet still looks shaky. Even made a save that was missing and pushed back into play...awe inspiring

Illi was amazing throughout given noone else had a clue how to play football.

Bogle and Lowe must have some sidebet going on. Both have sunk to pretty low depths.

JLT, Egan and Furious were immense given they were left isolated.

The City lads must play every minute of every remaining league game and told to just play football and express themselves.

McB works like a nubian slave but with no end product.

Berge was shocking and occaisionally ok if that makes sense. Would have subbed him for Fleck.

Davies is........

Anyway

Beat City #2 on Tuesday and we are there.

Despite trying our best to lose the game in the first half and then to let them back in at 2-1 up, we won. They must be proper shit.

Doyle and JLT the standouts. Bogle and Lowe were toss.

That’s a good report. I think Ndiaye rates a bit high, but still a class goal so perhaps not. The rest about right in my opinion. The full backs obviously too low, but the sentiment’s (shite) bang on. :)

Still, three points and well earned in the end after some frosty moments and going a goal behind too.

pommpey
Bang on. Especially with Bogle!

It actually illustrates that although we are where we are and looking at promotion, we are so far short of having a PL prepared team that unless we fuck a few players off and buy better, next season aint gonna be much fun again.

That's my viewpoint too.

When we were promoted with Wilder we didn't have any outstanding individuals, the only players who could produce high quality were Duffy, McGoldrick and sometimes Brooks. However I've never seen such a well drilled United team....where every player....plays simple but quick pass and move football.
They must have been well coached because they all seemed to know where every player would be stood before they even made the pass.
When we were promoted from league 1 I was very confident we'd finish top half and maybe challenge for the play-offs
and when we were promoted to the PL I felt confident we'd easily stay up and predicted just below mid table.

However Hecky's team don't have anywhere near the same co-hesiveness, we don't play like a team unit, at times midfield is so disjointed and by-passed.
We have spells where we look decent but in the same match we have spells where we can't string 3 passes together and we revert to pumping it long upfield.
We have a solid defence who are determined and physical, so when we set our stall out we're not going to concede many.
My issue this season is that overall we've been quite average but unlike the Wilder team, we have some quality individuals who can score goals from nothing.

Next season will be a total rebuild....as we don't have any foundations to take on the PL. I fear that we'll approach many games like the Spurs cup game...where we sit back parking the bus (we've been really effective at that this season).....frustrate the opposition then try to pinch a goal on the break or from a set piece.

Bogle. For me worst player on the pitch today by far.

Not sure what's wrong with Bogle. He's much more talented than Baldock and could become a good level Premier League player,
I'm a fan and see the huge potential he has. His attacking wing play gives us a new threat.

However in recent matches his mind seems elsewhere...he not only seems half asleep when defending but weirdly he doesn't seem that bothered.
He needs to learn from Baldock to be more aggressive with more desire and will to win.

Berge in and out of the game a couple of nice long passes including the assist to McAtee's goal. Still looks slow, lacks the tenacity that is needed.
He was pushed off the ball way too much in the first half considering his height and stance. Slightly better 2nd half but he was still half hiding getting rid of the ball. At one point Sky showed the top number of touches/passes and Berge was 4th I think. This was more getting rid of the ball then doing something with it. He shows flashes of brilliance and insight but we dont want flashes.

I thought it was Ndiaye's worst game for us this season, but he's such a special player you can leave him on and he'll still make something happen. McAtee also can conjure something out of nothing - today's goal was a little bit of magic. These 2 players make the difference.

Doyle ok
Berge ok
Lowe ok
McBurnie ok
Defence ok
Goalie ok
Bogle - confidence is shot - needs resting

Under the pressure the team was under, particularly felt at home I'm sure, they did just fine. Its results that matter now and I've have snapped your hand off for 4-1 at 12.45.

Well done Blades

Great post. The main reason I want us up is because of our perilous financial situation.
What happens on the field will be dictated by how that pans out. We are guarenteed over 100 m and if we come down new parachute paynents so unless Heck does a Wilder we should be kind of ok.
