The Basham stat makes me chuckle every time 🤣 Norwood and Fleck should be doing better.

Here is the current status post-Reading

Chris Basham 128 games, (Leeds 2018/19)
John Fleck 46 games, (Peterborough 2021/22)
Ollie Norwood 21 games (Blackpool 2022/23)
Max Lowe 16 games (Sunderland 2022/23)
Ben Osborn 15 games (Norwich 2022/23)
Anel Ahmedhodzic 13 games (Burnley 2022/23)
Billy Sharp 10 games (Wigan 2022/23)

I've decided to remove long term injured players from the list. RND (37), O'Connell (35) & Stevens (10) all removed and will be added should they play again

Bash's run has been done to death, but lets talk about Fleck. He was a reliable-ish source for goals when he joined - 4 in League 1, 2 each in the Championship seasons, and 5 in the Prem.

He's obviously less mobile now than he was, and isn't getting in the box as often. Furthermore, we rarely see the driving Fleck runs anymore. You know, a little jink and he's past a man and going into space. Sadly a thing of the past.

Having said that, he was relatively closed with his blocked shot against Blackburn. It tends to be only Sander taking the edge of box pot shots, I wonder if Fleck could help him out in that regard?

shows we have the biggest list of scorers in this division
take basham out and Flecks seasons worth of games
all are under half a season

Fleck and Norwood stats are poor for midfielders who actually have good shots on them.

but lets talk about Fleck. He was a reliable-ish source for goals when he joined - 4 in League 1, 2 each in the Championship seasons, and 5 in the Prem.

Fleck has 15 appearances in the League this season, but has only been on the pitch for 812 minutes. That's equivalent to 9 games. He's completed 90mins just 3 times.

Basham should have scored at Blackburn after that run into the box.

I had an idle moment yesterday and I checked to see whether any outfield players (including centre backs!) have (i) played 10 or more league games since I started the Goal Droughts chart last season and (ii) have never had a 10 game drought.

It turns out there are 4 such players. 2 played last season only, one this season only, and one in both seasons.

Morgan Gibbs White - 35 games, 11 goals. Never went more than 4 games without scoring. A class act.

David McGoldrick: was not on the list when it began as he scored in the last game of the previous season. Managed only 2 goals in 19 games but spaced them out - scoring in the 6th and 13th games - to stay off the list.

James McAtee: scored in his 10th game, v Blackpool, and has scored 4 more in 29 total appearances. Scored last night so can't be on the list this season with only 9 games left.

Jack Robinson: bit of a fluke this, as he did not score in his first 25 games over 3 seasons, but I did not count centre backs (to the frustration of some) and so he was not on the list when it began. Since scoring against Luton last season, he has become the master of the nicely spaced goal. His intervals between goals are 8 games, 7 games, 3 games, 7 games and the current 7 games. Bet on him to score v Wigan or Norwich....

Happy St Basham's Day to all those who celebrate. Is it just me or does it arrive sooner every year? Almost worth keeping him in the squad for another season just so the drought can mark its fifth birthday next year.

That's a long run for Billy
My initial thought was that he'd just made a load of 15 minute substitute appearances since that goal but no, it's 5 starts and 7 sub appearances for a total of 572 minutes (596 if you include the 24 minutes he played after scoring at Wigan) so it's probably one of his longest droughts since rejoining in 2015, certainly outside the Premier League.

Bit harsh of mattbianco1 to include his one minute at Sunderland as a game but I guess the line has to be drawn somewhere.

I don't mind if Lowe hasn't scored for ages, just so long as he keeps on mis-hitting shots that lead to goals.. 2 in 2 for the lad!

Think you missed one off the list. Wes is currently on a 389 game goal drought. Getting embarrassing at this point

Surely the Basham goal is frozen in history and could only be replaced if he scores the goal that wins promotion
