Scrap the 5 back. 4 back is the new way at Sheffield United

Since brining Robbo off and switching to a back 4 we were brilliant. Attacked with intensity, was on the front foot. Fullbacks were still pushing up and not getting caught out. 4 at the back suits us.

Up the blades ⚔️
Or since the Blackburn attack got tired and their manager brought an extra CB on, you mean?

The last 20 mins was attack vs defence so yes ofcourse we looked good, but it was a result of the situation, not the formation. They had all defenders on the pitch and we had all attackers, not reflective of a ‘real’ game.

FWIW I thought we played pretty well throughout (after 5 mins anyway!)

We have seen since after the World Cup, we have looked much better at using a back 4. I guess it takes a lot of training ground work to build up.

definetly go to a back 4 been advocating it for months on here and yes put robbo at left back it showed today when we went to a 4 and illy dropped back in to midfield that extra man puts us so much more on the front foot having said that has to be either 541 or 451 against city if we want to keep the score down

I'd sooner see us get dry bummed score wise and have a pop at them. Set up to win!

It’s an interesting one, we defended poorly with 4 at the back but it created a lot of space for McAtee, Doyle and Berge. Some of it was linked to Blackburn dropping deep and inviting us on but it negated our tactic of fucking about with it out wide like we did too many times and we attacked better more narrowly.

Lowe isn’t a LB though, not sure he’s a LWB either but he managed a couple of assists today at least.

Personally thought we looked very awkward with only 4 at the back. We were constantly looking for the extra man in the wide places and they weren’t there, often stifling our attacks. Despite us getting the winning goal I thought we looked a lot less dangerous going forward once we’d moved to that formation.

They wanted us to carry on playing down the wings and we didn’t. It was a bit awkward at times but if we’d carried on we’d not have scored.

We were still trying to play down the wings, we weren’t able to because we didn’t have the overload. For the first 10 minutes it felt like we’d no idea how to attack. Berge and McAtee were then asked to sit much wider and it made a bit more of a difference

I thought we mixed it up a bit more. The ball went out wide but then back inside with the odd drive down the outside. Thought we mixed it up a little bit more and was less ‘Tufty ball’ like you say, no overloads and it changes how we attack.

I think we might have found a couple of difference makers just in time

One is this new midfield 3

The other is the back 4

Combine both together and we can do this

Baldock Anel Egan Robinson
Berge Doyle McAtee
Ndiaye
Jebbison McB

Has to be a serious option, simply because it is probably the best way of getting all our best attacking players on the pitch in some sort of coherent system

Opponents also have no precedent for how to combat us in such a setup

Played that way at Sunderland the vibrancy and speed Blackburn was chasing shadows at the end

Robbo is a great squad pal. Does anyone one know how much we paid Forest for him? Couldn’t find much on it

Was done out necessity as they were gonna park the bus , not sure how we’d go against a good side that was on the front foot ? .. I’m still having nightmares about us when Slav changed it to a back four
