Scrap the 5 back. 4 back is the new way at Sheffield United

Personally thought we looked very awkward with only 4 at the back. We were constantly looking for the extra man in the wide places and they weren’t there, often stifling our attacks. Despite us getting the winning goal I thought we looked a lot less dangerous going forward once we’d moved to that formation.
yes but it made us play the ball forward more its too easy for the back 3 to go sideways to each other in that set up and slows us down we had an extra body further up the pitch and thats what won us the game not saying play a back 4 against city that would be suicidal but for the 9 league games i would go 4 at the back lets try and win every game by attacking teams

Robbo is a great squad pal. Does anyone one know how much we paid Forest for him? Couldn’t find much on it

I have no source for the fee but IIRC I think it was somewhere around 750k, signed in the January window of 2020.

It's only Wikipedia but it says he signed a two and a half year deal which means it would've expired in the most recent summer window, I don't remember any of our senior players' contracts being renewed within the last year or so? Either that or the deal had the option of an extra year which has been taken up.

Had his 12-month extension activated last summer so out of contract at end of this season

Thanks pal

I just knew at the time that Robinson would be a good signing who would outlast the rest and end up playing a lot - might be taken as quite a negative view because that would probably mean we'd gravitated back to our natural home in the championship. But he's such an absolute Sheffield United player...... you know we'll get value out of any solid sort like that

Not entirely sure it’s the right formation for our current squad. The ability to switch formation during a game is a good thing, if the coaches have worked on it.
It gives us the chance to be more direct, and put the opposition on the back foot. Not a bad skill to have in the toolbox, as Blackburn found out!
As ancientblade pointed out, it negates the tendency for back 5 players to play sideways as the ‘safe’ option!

No, 5 at the back is best.
Could we legitimately play SIX at the back? 6-3-1? Not sure if this would involve a back 5 and sweeper or back 6 with some degree of overlapping.

Wes
Baldock Anel Egan Clark Robbo Lowe
Berge Norwood Osborn
Ndiaye

It might look like 4-5-1 when attacking with Baldock and Lowe as the wide players, just depends on which part of the pitch you want to overload.

City thrive on space. So you deprive them of it entirely.

Then you get the ball to Ndiaye and...

The only we go to a back 4 is when we’re losing and chasing the game. Therefore we’re bound to look more attacking.

Clark is fit and very good but can’t get in because Robbo is on such a stormer

thats good news think clark will still have a big part to play in the run in and do think him at lcb with robbo moving to lwb is our best formation certainly against city

As is always I proclaimed that four at the back is the way to go

We go to 4 at the back and look like prime Barcelona 2011

You guys will never learn that what I say is as close to gospel as there is

And that’s a FALLOWFIELD FACT

Bet Man City are shitting themselves this morning, have you heard the Blades are going to a back four, right how are we going to combat that?
It's not that we're going to a back four that's got them worried. It's the uncertainty of not knowing how we'll line up which means they have no way to prepare for what will, for some of the City players', be the biggest match of their career.

Imagine getting to share a pitch with Iliman Ndiaye and Anel Ahmedhodzic? Only in their wildest dreams.

All have a big part to play but it appears macatee and n Doyle are going to be our season winners. When everyone was sceptical at the start of macatee’s ability to play championship football little did they know the management team would use him as much as they will now. Macatee and Doyle need to be on the field and we will be promoted.

Love JLT's passion but he's bloody awful on the ball. His best position is not in a back 3 or back 4, it's in the 1970's when defenders were tough tackling.

both should start all our remaining league fixtures if fit really like doyle as good a player as norwood has been for us his best days are gone now doyle plays a similar role but gets up and down the pitch so much more than norwood does these days plus he doesnt play alongside our 3 centre backs taking ball off em leaves us 1 short in midfield when norwood plays

The back 5 has got us where we are today. Why change? It's what our players know well, look at us under Slav 🙈

In 7 seasons..
2x promotions
2x seasons in the PL
A semi final and cup runs in the FA cup
Second in the league currently

🤯🤯🤯

It might have "worked" on Sunday but for the first 10 minutes after the sub we were clueless. Easily our worst spell of the game.

Then Blackburn made their own subs, Doyle dragged the rest of the team back on track (especially the devastated McAtee) and we came through.
It might work as a mid game change but 4 at the back is certainly not the immediate future as a starting line up.
