Berge

I thought he had a much better game last night

For the most part it looked like he played more central than he usually does, which I think suits him better than being boxed in down the right, giving him more options.

Having said the above, he did end up late in the game like he was more down the right than central (tiredness? tactics?)

7/10 for me,passed the ball well including a great reverse pass on the left first half in traffic cutting inside, although it came to nothing.

Berge has been absolutely crap for months but because he's the 20m golden boy you can't have an bad opinion on him.

Didn't watch last night but heard he was better.
I’ve been consistently critical of Berge and would have flogged him in the JTW. As my forum stalker I’m disappointed you haven’t clocked on.

Last night he was better, so I said it. I watch each game / performance on merit and…. comment on it. It’s a forum, there’s no science behind it. Just think for yourself. And if you can’t, how about watching the game before taking issue with my view which you can’t substantiate.

As another poster has suggested, some people have already pre-written their posts to suit their narrative of Berge. It’s fucking tiresome.

Berge was our best midfielder tonight. Some of you should stop spouting bollocks to get likes.
Your standards are so low. He literally passed the ball sideways or backwards for 90 minutes, played one through ball and won the ball once.

He is lazy and plays like his salary is linked to his pass completion rate.

My standards aren’t low. Berge has fundamentally and consistently been a disappointment. And yes, he could work much harder and is too often a passenger. Lazy seems a stretch, but …. he’s infuriating to watch for sure.

However last night he had a decent game, and an improved second half, in a midfield supported by a dire Norwood and an absent McAtee.

So take your Berge bollocks goggles off and be man enough to admit he didn’t let us down against Reading. Your pettiness dilutes the good points you have made.

It’s such a shame I can’t put your final paragraphs on ignore and read the good points you make before it. “Be man enough”, as if I’m too cowardly to admit he’s had a decent game, is just weird haha.

He was a passenger last night who did very, very little. He’s apparently played in the champions league, been linked with Liverpool and too good for this level. People blame the players he plays with, his position, injuries, adjusting to a new country.

He is simply not cut out to be a top level footballer. He doesn’t have the drive or the personality, which is a shame because he’s got the ability.

Clearly he’s not champions league level, nor worth £20m+. But I thought he played well last night and others with a brain agree. You can’t bring yourself to admit it. How did you cope when a bird ditched you?

Youre still roaring 3 years on about Berge not living up to his star billing. Move on, let it go.

Thought he did OK last night, he was one.of the only players with a bit of composure when we were holding the 1 0 lead, others were banging the ball anywhere and it was coming straight back at us.

Berge was actually taking the ball out from the back and looking to find a pass, which is essential with two relatively slow strikers in mcburnie and sharp

Better last night, much more tidy, but the opposition definitely helped. We were winning the ball all over the pitch, it was the reverse of Blackburn

He’s still in the team so why wouldn’t we comment on him?

I can’t bring myself to admit it? A bird ditched me? Haha what the f are you talking about?

Criticised him a lot, but after an insipid first half I thought he played quite well second half. Got to do that for 90 minutes every game though, not 45 mins every ten games before I change my opinion.

You can have a bad opinion about him or anyone, as is your right.

But the pile on him recently has been embarrassing. He isn’t our worst player by a long way, but a fair few posters ignore everything positive he does and focus on any negatives.

Norwood last night was way off it, one of his worst performances for me and he’s not been sparkling since the break.

How many Norwood threads pop up after every game?

No player is immune to criticism, but portions of our fan base sure love a scapegoat.

He's still a bit hit and miss for me, considering what we paid for him and the fanfare surrounding him. I'd still question what his best position is but I think this is the key.

The best midfield players we've seen in this country and currently see all display an element of nastiness, energy and arrogance in their play, when you look at the likes of Vieira, Gerrard, Keane, Lampard, Scholes right up to people like De Bruyne and Rodri now. Sander on the other hand never seems to display much of this. There are players in many sports who are very quiet and well spoken then cross the white line and become a different person. Sander seems to be the same regardless

Perhaps he has a touch of the Berbatovs about him where he doesn't run about like a loony because he just knows where to be or maybe he's just going through the motions and knows that he doesn't need to bust his arse to still make a good living from the game.

Maybe he just isn't as good as he's marketed as being but while he's playing in this country, sauntering around in his dinner jacket isn't going to get the job done. The Belgian and Norwegian leagues are likely to be a different story.

In cricket fielding captains often take the approach of setting specific fields for certain batsmen. Additionally, they may change bowlers and bring on one who they feel could have an edge over the batsman if they are suspect in certain areas. Who would batsman 'x' least like to face from my bowling options.

With United which players do the opposition least like to see on our teamsheet? Ndiaye - a handful for any defence with his pace, skill and ability. McBurnie - a real handful physically for defenders but also mobile with a good touch, Anel - the complete defender at this level, not an easy ride for the opposition's attack.

Which brings me to Berge, do the opposition fear or relish his presence? I can imagine the Blackburn players were in the latter camp and took advantage of his frailties throughout. Perhaps against lesser team he can exert himself but I get the increasing impression that opposition midfielders are wise to him and fancy their chances.

I suspect Luton would prefer Berge to play, as they know what to expect, more than say a Coulibaly who though arguably less naturally talented could offer a different and unknown dimension.

Clearly the management team see things differently and presumably he's carrying out instructions to the letter but I find it fascinating how Berge is the typical ''first name on the sheet'' player when the majority of us fans remain sceptical and frustrated; increasingly so too.

Berge and Norwood played the three legged game last nite.

Berge = fraud

Not scapegoating he’s just terrible

Rolls Royce 😂 😂 😂 😂 mind I do see some similarities both over hyped and over priced

Fraud of a player. Take whatever we can in the summer or just release him on a free. I loathe seeing him in a Sheffield United shirt. Waste of transfer fee. Waste of wages. Waste of opportunities to get rid and use the money to buy someone who tries and looks like they give a toss.

I was thinking this week about another 1-0 home defeat, v Barnsley in their promotion season. We were injury hit and they edged it.

And despite the tough task, Don Hutchison never gave up. My abiding memory of the game is him asking for it, running at Barnsley, looking for the pass, geeing the team up, trying to drag us back into the game.

I’ve never seen Berge put even half that effort in. He’s about as stirred up as a cesspool.

That performance from him today was a disgrace. Fleck is past it. Berge has no such excuse.

Absolutely useless today.. last week.. week before etc etc etc. Not scapegoating him, he's just the beigest of beige. Doesn't do anything for 85 mins. The other 5 mins might garner a steady jog. There's a reason nobody put a serious bid in for him January. He's nesh and has the heart of a pea. Embarrassment of our supposed "best midfielder in the league".
