Absolutely! A cheap new laptop just wouldn't look as cool lying on the coffee table when we've got people round.

There's an article on the BBC saying that Android devices are no longer supporting flash player. Does this mean that no tablets will be able to play BladesPlayer anymore?
 



I can't find anything on there. It's utter crap. I can't find the ticket office opening hours.
 
Website is a clunky piece of in-your-face junk with the few useful links hidden behind garish ads.
Does not work at all on mobile devices, how odd is that?
Blades Player isn't too bad once you finally find it.

But we're not the only club have signed to this same inadequate provider.
Must have been a collective bargaining thing to save a few quid.

Someone needs to check the superb new Sporting Life website to see how a proper web page works.
The BBC mobile website is also top class.
 
Not that I'm suggesting that the club would in any way doctor this kind of thing so as to fit the party line, but we've been watching the poll of "where will United finish" on the OS with interest.

It went from massively weighted towards "fall short" to a pretty even split between the three options. I'm assuming the person responsible for 'monitoring' it was one of the redundancies, as the poll has now reflects the results it was showing before.

You know... when I got to see the poll... after a minute's worth of bollocks loaded itself in the background of the flash screen...
 
I'm sure the web designers on here will have a view on this... When reading down some articles on the OS, you're asked to click to "read more". Sometimes that amounts to just one more sentence.

Can't figure out for the life of me why the page depth would be limited like that.
 
Presumably all the other clubs sites are just as bad. You'd think they would get it sorted, it's shocking.

I'm mad with rage :)

Just caught my boss looking at the Coventry site. Looks like it uses the same template as ours, but I think it looks far more cohesive. They've managed to get some downloads posted as well!
 
Very poor and not a patch on the old site, which wasn't perfect by any means, but was at least usable. Also tried to find ticket office opening times for Sat morning and found it impossible. Lots of links just don't go anywhere. I understand that in these times the people just won't be there to populate more than the basics on the site but it is an important way for the club to communicate with fans and if it is a heap of crap, fans just won't use it.
 
There must be a fan willing to run it for next to nothing? Tidy up all the dead links and stuff.

It's a bit pathetic, really.

I think the lack of attention to the club site is indicative of the archaic way United seem to view their communication, namely, if they can't see an absolute cost benefit to it, they won't bother.

Take programmes. Generally speaking (postal subscriptions aside), programmes are only available to those 17000 or so United fans who go to a particular game. Of this, an extremely small %age actually buy a programme so its reach is limited. (We were told the numbers once and we receive more unique visits in a day). However, every one of those people who buys a programme pays their £3. On top of the advertising revenue they receive, they see a direct cost benefit to spending time producing a programme.

However, the website benefits are less tangible. You might want to buy match tickets, but need to find out the opening hours of the box office in order to go down and get them. The fact that you used the website to enable you to purchase the tickets isn't recorded. The same with checking out things for the shop etc.

I don't know if the official contract has ended, but as they're still using a stock template, I'd guess they're still signed up with whoever is running the FL official sites.

The implementation and content is all down to United though.

I'd imagine it's automtically limited to a set number of paragraphs
 
I guess then if the site is run by a 3rd party, they'd get all the advertising revenue from hits. To an extent I can then understand United not wanting to commit staff time to updating the site if there is no financial benefit to it, given the cutbacks at the Club. I can't imagine they'd have a massive amount of staff to deal with the site content... but maybe they need some Lean consultants in to do a bit of process mapping in the Ticket Office :)

Mildly interesting as well... you shouldn't actually link to the OS from Facebook, nor is anyone but Foxy allowed to link to the OS on this site and only to the home page. I think we'd probably fail their test on the last sentence too :D:

One of the few good things about the official website was the "Stats" page showing goals, assists, appearances going back for about 10 years. It now goes back only 1 season and the actual details shown are not what you would call comprehensive...

Communication is quite poor. For instance, I know from twitter that Jamie Hoyland started a new job at United on Monday. Nothing on the official site or announced by the club yet?!

The phone app for the website is horrendous, no fixture information loaded, failing functionality. They issued an update but that hasn't worked for many so they are saying delete the app and re-load it! Farcical.
 
If I were in charge of the club's website, I would basically just look at Twitter and this forum three or four times a day, and copy the stories. It's not hard. It's what most "journalists" do.

Does anyone actually know what job Jamie Hoyland has taken up? I presume it's some kind of coaching but I don't know if it's first team, youth team or u21s?
 
all official sites suck to be fair , match live news is a joke always hours behind, the green un can be out and printed before we put up the attendance, and theres no wallpapers of pics available to reward fans, most people know how to get some free so they could offer a few for the less computer literate
An on line programme ought to be available through paypal by now , youd have thought
 
There is obviously a very poor fan experience with the official site, is there anyway this can be fed back to the club to at least attempt to improve things????
