Isnt the website ran by an outsource and the club just pay the company to produce a site?

I don't have a great issue with the content, its preseason and generally things are slow at this time anyway.

But, i've tried viewing it on mobile (iphone and Android) and the ipad and its impossible, seems to be constantly resizing and slow to scroll. You would've thought that as Tablets now outstrip PC sales, that they would make it more tablet friendly.

Oh and it still runs flash, so no chance of any Blades Player content on the worlds largest selling tablet, the iPad

I agree. The old site wan't great, but the new one is worse.
It's slow to load even via a fast internet connection, some of the text is too large, and content seems to appear & disappear (at the moment the "full squad" page only shows 10 players).

It's rubbish - I can't believe that better couldn't be done a)with content, b) with navigation and c) at the same time increasing revenue for the club.

Absolute pants. I don't suppose the club have a lot of say as all League clubs are this style now. There's some guy sitting in an office somewhere with a pony tail and red braces thinking he's made a great job of these websites. He's very much mistaken.

Loads quick for me I suppose 60Mb cable helps but the only thing I can liken the official site to is a one armed bandit sulking in the corner of a dingy pub tap room, nothing happening but the lights are flashing to a pre set sequence all trying to get your attention at the same time ....................... must be working too cos I can't find feck all on there.

It's atrocious, especially with mobile access.

I wanted to know the Academy fixtures because I have to plan it if I want to go to Shirecliffe. There's nothing there - even if they are waiting to load this, they could at least organise a news item.

Useless

I avoid it as much as possible - only reason to go to the site for me is a link to Blades Player.
Awful, awful mess. Utterly crap on anything other than a PC.

I guess the content is down to the Blades, though. I presume it's a template site and it's up to one of our guys to fill in the detail - probably why it's sparse.

I suspect this has been discussed to death on here before, but I have just invested in an iPad as my laptop takes ages to boot up and regularly overheats. Is there any point in me maintaining my BladesPlayer subscription if it doesn't work on the iPad, and is there any work around to get the commentary (that doesn't involve me buying a new laptop)?

I'd update the site for them for free*.

As for the site in general, it is just badly written, plain and simple. Runs like crap because its not written properly. I'm a web developer by trade and it pains me to use that site. I'd love to know what it's costing them every year to run/update. Sure between us we could do a better job.

*how about work for home match tickets?

It's a template that all football league clubs (I think all of them do) subscribe to so they don't have to do anything themselves. As I understand it this is a long term, collective deal so I guess the revenue only flexes by the number of subscribers to the various players for the clubs involved. Given this state then I guess they are working on a fixed budget to perform updates and upgrades, so anything decent will cost more and they are not prepared to take any more out of the bottom line margin. I think there is a long time still to pass before the agreement is up for renewal.

As has been discussed many times, the template and workings of the site are provided with input from the clubs by a contracted third party following on from a lengthy signup in the ITV digital days, content (other than centrally managed stats etc) is added by the club.

As part of the deal, the club actually make more from a Bladesplayer subscription than you pay out for it.

ha ha ha, as if by magic this has appeared

I'm going to try my luck now

"the biggest gripe I've got about the website is that they've failed to report the signing of our new winger, Matty Phillips"

Let's see if they'll fix that :)

Blades have got rid of all the backroom staff.

What do you expect?

Staff? Who needs staff? :D

Between two and a half people (Daz, Foxy and a wee contribution from me) we managed two full match reports, videos and photos from this weekend's games.

Our argument has always been that if we can do it with our scant resources and limited time and access, then it wouldn't take a great deal for the club to provide the bits of content that people need.

What i find odd is that there was a poll asking if people like the new site i can't remember it being better than 30% yes so if they were keeping it anyway why ask??

If you had an agent they'd be on Sky Sports News right now issuing a thinly-veiled "sign me up" message to the Blades board. ;)

PS - Did I just accidentally liken you to Matt Kilgallon? The horror!

One thing I've noticed is that since the implementation of the new site, the inter-related SUFC app for Android (and I presume iPhone too?) does NOT work.........why?

In summary, it's a right royal mess!

Its messy
theres far too much on page 1, non of which is needed
the most important thing about any game , the result is in the smallest font
this site would be far better as the official one , the reports are better
java script as main feature does not aid android use

So you've spent £400 on an iPad as your laptop is slow and knackered. You could have got a cheap laptop for the same price! I suspect that your reasoning is the same bullshit you've spun to your missus about why you need an ipad :)

I believe so, and they seem to do the majority of other clubs sites out there too as they all use the same template and just change the colours to suit.

At first glace I liked the new site as I thought anything would be an improvement on the old one. However, once I saw past the mock windows 8 metro interface it seemed to have more crammed on the front page than ever before. Like a free magazine so desperate for income that they put all of their adverts on the front cover and hide what little content it does have deep in the depths of the site. It smacks of desperation to make money wherever they can...and I should think it's peanuts considering no blades I know go near it these days.

Oh how I long for a return to the age when the web was a good resource for information rather than the attached hosepipe to the opening of a sewer that it has become. Remember these days?: http://web.archive.org/web/20010516023327/http://www.sufc.co.uk/

Not only that but from a technical point of view the OS is so crammed full of crap that it leeches ram and cpu resources like a 10 year old copy of norton antivirus. Did the web designers not realise that most people browse the web on their mobiles these days when their new site struggles on some full fat desktops? No doubt the numpties at the lane will pay a premium for this garbage. They should take a leaf out of the book of www.s24su.com.

Rant over.

The new site is one of the very few to have ever crashed Safari on my phone. The fecker barely works on my Mac, never mind asking a mobile device to deal with it.

I was out in the sticks the other day and attempted to view the site without a 3G signal. Like trying to drain the oceans with a thimble...

According to the news item 'Tony Bids For Home Win' on the official site, the Blades were dumped out of Saturday's game 5-4 on penalties. And there was me thinking it was 4-3.

Ah well, the game was best forgotten.

Erm... it was 4-5 to Burton?

Humble pie for me. I knew that we'd missed two. I forgot that it went to sudden death.

Like I said, the result was best forgotten.
