The season has only just begun and already I am left wondering how we are going to win games without a proven goal scorer in our team?

We may have reasonable quality, at this level, dotted about elsewhere, but this will all be irrelevant if we can't get on the end and score the goals.

The evidence was there at the end of last season, once Ched did himself in, and went to hard rock, and tonight's commentary at Coventry indicated we had a decent control of the game, but could not convert our dominance with a couple of goals.

All a bit worrying, even at this early stage of the season.

Can't see it what you're worrying about. I think Blackman looks a good player and he's got 2 in 3 games. This is a good return given he's only just adjusting to a new side.

The replacements for Ched look for far more promising than I hoped for TBH.

We've got an away draw at one of the bigger teams in the league. I'm not worried at the moment.

One goal from midfield, one from a striker with a positive goal difference, players need to bed into competitive games and build confidence, once they get to know each other the front line I think we'll see a few goals from Cofie, with more coming from Blackman, miller looks lively and i can see him scoring, it doesn't happen over night and we have to learn to play a more free thinking game at times, i.e try different things not the same as we did Saturday.

There is no replacement for Ched. Luckily you don't need a replacement for Ched. We just need to edge a fair proportion of our games like Los Cochones did last year.

Errrm....I'm sure our centre forward scored tonight.

Anyway 4 points from the first two games will do fine. I would have taken a point before the game given the fact that Coventry have just come down. We should have won it though by the sounds of it. One of those games.....if you dont take your chances the home side are always likely to sneak in front.

We showed some character, re-asserted our dominance and rescued a point. Decent start but we do need to up it a bit and I'm sure we will, new players are still settling and developing understanding with one another. Lets try not to jump to any negative conclusions in the first week of the season. Long way to go yet.

Sounds like we are in desperate need of some wide men able to get behind defences. 2 pts dropped I'm afraid but I'd have taken a draw before kick off.

I agree, the new players need sometime to bed in, and two games is hardly enough time, perhaps after a dozen games we will know more.

In order to be promoted I am sure we will need someone to get 20+ goals. I don't know anything about the new players, which promted my post, but hope they can do well.

Will try and get to Colchester to see for myself.

2 games, unbeaten and 4 points on the board. Away draw at a potential challenger for promotion and we bossed it. Think it is fair to ask where the goals are going to come from. Think the fair answer (if you are Wilson) is Cofie (when 100%), Blackman and Porter. Cresswell as back up.

Start of last season Cresswell was our star performer (if we indeed had such a thing) before 3 mil decided to start playing. We were probably having the same conversations this time 12 months ago.

Many players settling in. I'm happy thus far.

Evans didn't properly get going until we were into November last year (though admittedly he'd started the season a month later than the rest) and he was someone that had 2 years to settle in properly. We have a completely new strike force - it's not as though one can rely on the other being already established at the club. Give it time.

He knocked off a month early as well :)

Bit harsh on Miller who has impressed me so far. With a better keeper in howard ,if we add a decent wide man I think we will be close to as good as last year.

2ppg so far. That's automatic form, and in some years championship form. No complaints so far

It does seem like we had a lot of the game but didnt make our advantage count. Ive been impressed with Miller and Blackman so far, Cofie is only young and may play better with a more experienced striker like Porter.
I would start with Miller and Blackman next game Cofie on the bench I think he could be OK played wide if we need to change the game in the last 20 mins

We've still got Porter to come back yet!!? ;)
Flippin eck! Where you been.
You missed all the Olympics (and now you regret going away);). The retreat has done you good.
Hardly recognised you writing only 1 sentance. Looks good on ye though.

TI'm just happy that we seemed to dominate the game, or at least we were comfortable at one of the more fancied teams away from home. It'll be nigh on impossible to replace a scorer in the kind of form Ched hit last season but we do seem to have a few players who look a bit lively now and who could weigh in with a goal or two.

If we defend better than last season then we'll get away without our superstar striker who saved us in many a game, but if we start to ship silly goals again then we'll be in bother. Start at the back for me, and one goal conceded in 2 games is a case of so far so good.

Round pegs in round holes Pedro. We have spent too many seasons playing strikers out wide just because they had a yard of pace. Lads a centre forward, it is where he should play.

Strangely enough I think this team could be better than last year. Has move pace and movement about it. We do need a quick right winger to compliment it.

We do need more goals from McDoanld and Quinn (if he's staying)

Not if you're Sheffield United though. We always need that bit more.

Should have probably read on a bit, given that everyone has made similar comments. It's true though. We always seem to miss out, be it promotion or relegation, when any other season the points tally would have been good enough.

Unfortunatley we are not one of the top Premiership clubs where they have 2 quality players for every position. We are a financially struggling Division Three club that does not have any cover at CB so one of our round pegs we have at LB would have to cover. When did we recently have a striker with pace before this season.
I wouldnt play Cofie wide from the start but would consider him there from the bench if we needed a Plan B
