Watched today's match on tv with subtitles. The commentator said that he understand the EFL have agreed they pay the club (who complained that they are owed an instalment of a transfer fee from us) and that we would repay the EFL at a later date which means we are no longer in an embargo. Is this what he said or the subtitles had got it wrong?

Think they said, the embargo would be lifted when we repay the EFL.

Yes he said the EFL has a fund from which it pays transfer fees which are not honoured, so at the moment our debt is to this EFL fund, not the other club(s).

Hecky said as much the other day, I wondered at the time why he said “when the money goes into the EFL’s account” but it makes sense now.

If that’s true, they shouldn’t. Where does that pot actually come from and what better stuff could it be used for?
Why shouldn't they? It projects clubs from clubs who refuse to or cannot pay. Imagine it was a league one or two club they would absolutely need that money just to keep going.

Just made that point in Shoutbox. The whole media circus around these actors is distasteful and disrespectfu.

I may be in the minority but I didn't have a problem with the whole Wrexham hype and Reynolds pre-game interview. He comes across as a decent down-to-earth bloke, certainly not stuck up like most Hollywood A-listers are. The BBC were always going to make it about Wrexham and why not, they are the lowest team left in the competition up against a team who are looking like they'll be in the PL next season.

Good luck to them.

To be fair we’re not all enthralled to celebrity culture and Hollywood “ A listers”.

If a club refuses to pay or can't then they can't sign a player. It's a simple as that. No one should live outside of their means. Clubs need to be run like proper businesses, otherwise go under, like some have sadly. We shouldn't be bailed out by the efl.

The EFL isnt bailing us out it's giving the money to the club we didn't pay. Why should that club be punished? We now have to reimburse the EFL

I suspect it probably helps avoid clubs raising winding up petitions against each other which might get a bit ugly.

I also assume there would be interest on what you owe the efl.

thats what they added on the BBC it protects the club who is owed the money. Thats the reason why the "pot" was created.
So if Berge gets sold we can give some of it to the EFL to clear the debt. ;)

The performance was bad enough without the Wrexham/Reynolds love in we had to put up with.
Even Mark Hughes was amazed at 4th official stopping game and instructing ref to red card Jebbo. Said he was trying to get attention suggesting he was star struck 🤩 with the hollywoodisation of the tie.

Strange thing is it will be great for the documentary and for the neutral it was a classic.

This is exactly the reason for it. The league do not like clubs suing each other.

I still have no idea who he is. My missus, who is the font of all celebrity knowledge, told me what nationality he is, what films he's been in (despite, like me, never having watched one of them), who he is married to, what films she's been (in despite, like me...etc etc). I'm afraid I wouldn't know him if I bumped into him as he was scuttling back into his heated box after a 95th minute equaliser. He's no Sean Bean, that's for sure.

From the time the draw was made and this fixture came out it was always going to be the storyline. It was the only reason we had the rare novelty of being shown live on BBC1.

We were lucky we got some positive coverage, normally they ignore us altogether. Or confuse us with some other lot in Sheffield 6. For the sake of the potential "giant killing" storyline they had to big us up for a change.

As supporters of Sheffield United, being unknown to the nation in general is probably a subject we should avoid.

Why are people getting so upset at this? We weren’t on the TV because it was us (see various prem teams) we were on because there was a good chance of a shock just like Accrington Leeds were. Like it or not the added newsworthiness of the two actors buying them and the subsequent documentary meant that the narrative was always going to be about Wrexham with us as the pantomime villains ruining the story.

I don't have a problem with the BBC giving the whole Wrexham situation a bit of air time. Both the owners seem like really decent people with good intentions to help, not just the club, but the community in general. Neither seem interested in taking a single penny out of the club, also. If you can't get behind that kind of 'celebrity' then I don't know what interest in football you really have.
We are on the verge of a takeover (allegedly) and it'd be nice to think that our new owner(s) will be coming into the club with the same kind of intentions and passion for the club as these two obviously have.
Something tells me it might be very different in our case. Then you'll have a right to bitch and moan!

Not too much good luck to them

Does anyone think that this supposed takeover is going to happen?

We were merely brought in as a sacrificial lamb to the slaughtered at the high alter of Netflix…But we survived.
