I think we will win 13 games out of the 19 get second

Yes, but we are twitchy because twice on living memory a team has done that (WHU 7 wins from 9, Pigs 11 from 14) and we've been the team overhauled in the final reckoning.

Also WBA/Wolves had a similar situation I the latest 25 years.

It doesn't happen often, but it does happen.
Didn't Bournemouth have a similar gap to us last reason before going on a bad run? They still clinched 2nd place but it went to the final game

People moaning about others moaning. Can't see much of that myself? Just a concern on injuries mainly. And the Sheffield united way..

Gotta laugh the people predicting the likes of Boro, West Brom and Watford could catch us despite being 11pts adrift are probably sat right now looking at the league one table and seeing the pigs 4pts above third placed Ipswich and saying to themselves they are promotion certainties.

If both us and Burnley win next Friday, that would make it almost impossible for anyone to catch us including West Brom, simply coz the rest of the teams are so inconsistent. Middlesborough are away at Sunderland next Sunday whilst the like of Blackburn & Watford can barely string two wins together, throw in the likes of Jebbison looking like a threat and Mcburnie to come back. I don't see us slipping up personally

When Bournemouth had 19 games left, Sheffield United were 13 points behind with 2 games in hand.

Sheffield United have won 9 of the last 11, conceded 2 in a game only once in that run (and you won anyway), and are consistently winning. Stop mithering. when you're better than the rest, you keep winning. If you lose three or four then perhaps you could start to worry, and even then you might find the rest aren't catching up, but for now, enjoy it while it lasts. (Burnley are doing!!! :D )

I'd prefer Burnley to beat West Brom and keep the teams below us, further below us, with another game out of the way.

I know we'd like to catch Burnley but if we can both put even further distance between us and the chasing pack we can concentrate on Burnley later

Hey mate love to pick your brains here
When we played you I definitely thought other teams would target your keeper and uncertainty around the penalty area defending g crosses but In the games I've seen no one has
Why do you think this is ? Have you changed something?
Was it a one off ?
Or did we just really play well ?

Bit of allsorts. We were definitely off our game, and we had Tella up front instead of Barnes or Rodriguez, and we had Brownhill missing, all of which already weakens our already-dodgy defence against headers.

I had assumed that Sheffield were just exceptionally good in the air, but apparently not. So we were obviously exceptionally bad on the day!

I think most likely it's that other teams don't get enough of the ball to attack quite so often, and don't have a long throw that (against us any road) was as good as a corner, which definitely reduces other teams' chances. I think your continued pressure just got to our players on the day, frankly. Be different at Turf Moor! (I hope!)

I'll confess this exact thought crossed my mind earlier today.

Looked at our table - nowhere near enough points - we are gonna get caught
Looked at L1 - oh, that's the Pigs up then...

Think our strongest eleven would beat yours but we will probably never get to find out

I'm going to nail my colours to the mast and say here and now we are going up this season despite all the negativity on this forum at the moment. Performances are just that it is the points that matter. Yes West Brom and Boro are on great runs of form at the moment and have shot up the table into the top six but they have not closed the points gap to ourselves. We will soon be into the territory where if anyone wants to overtake us they will have to return a point per game more than we do and we are averaging 2pts per game. Anyone think Boro or West Brom are going to win all their remaining games? Even if they keep up their form to promotion winning 2pts per game standards we are going to have to go into relegation form of a point per game until the end of the season. I just can't see anyone catching us.
To get to 85 points we need a return of 1.6 points per game, WBA and Middlesbrough 2.3, if they achieve that over the next 19 games, and we don’t achieve 1.6 then they deserve to go up.

we just need to be calm, not let the complacency creep in, and I mean both players and fans here, and take each game as it comes, getting those remaining 9 wins.

Also add into the mix that all the teams around and in the mix including us have to play each other, so they’ll deffo be dropped points which will mean hitting that 2.3 ppg very difficult for the likes of Mboro and WBA

We have 11 home matches left and 9 away matches.

Realistically 10 wins 5 draws and 5 losses ensures we'll be promoted even if the challengers end the season with a really impressive run.
An extra 15 points would see us finish on 86 points. The other teams would need incredible finishes to beat that.

However wouldn't surprise me if the low 80 points might be enough for the autos this

We are this seasons Bournemouth and Burnley are this seasons Fulham

i think you blades are just over thinking things because a few teams(us,west brom) are keeping pace with you. i'd be more worried about norwich. new manager comes in they win 4-0. they might go on a 8 game winning run now. can you keep winning? west brom and boro(us) maybe cant but another team might do something like we have done and continue to apply pressure.
hopefully for you guys, your team isnt full of bedwetters looking over their shoulders over thinking and stressing over a very unlikely scenario.

Me too, exactly the same, using the logic that our 11 point gap is nothing and will easily be bridged by several teams in the next four games, but Ipswich are done for and Derby/Bolton have no chance of catching W*dnesday, what with the 11 point gap being far too wide with games running out 🙂

How many points clear did we get in the Ched season? Off memory I recall 8?

Have we ever been this many points clear in a promotion race?

Another point is some people are worried that a team might close the 11 to 14 point gap.
However if....by some miracle the gap is closed......that doesn't mean we've lose out on the autos.

Any team that closes the gap.....then has to maintain their top form and hope that United continue their average form.

Let's take WBA and Boro, both have won something like 7 out of their last 8, which is a fantastic run.
For them to overtake us.....they need to repeat it....another 7 wins out of 8 and probably do something similar again.

Basically WBA and Boro need to be in the territory of 18 wins out of 20 to overtake us....if they do that then they deserve to finish in the top 2.
