Yeah I remember the same in the Bassett promotion seasonIt seems to me that considering the injury problem and potential outcome if things go wrong, the crowd and fan base generally are being very cautious, it was the same in the Wilder promotion season, albeit from further down the table, until that 'Bashams arriving' moment.
The closer we get to the end of the season, fans will become more optimistic, we will have a Bashams arriving moment, if we beat one of the three teams we're competing with, i.e. Burnley, West Brom, Middlesborough, I think we'll really start to believe.
Yeah I remember the same in the Bassett promotion season
I remember home games to the likes of port Vale and Oxford where we scraped narrow wins in dour games played out in front of 15000 crowds with the atmosphere of a morgue
I've often wondered if this ' blades way ' of fucking things up is just a psychological state that some seem to prefer after all we've had just as much success ( relatively) as you would expect a club of our size to have but most only seem to remember the bad
Bob JacksonMy early Blades memories. The Greenāun full of talk about āBlades promotion jittersā. Narrow unconvincing home wins to keep us up with Leeds and Newcastle. The fella on radio sheffield playing random brass band music to provoke a late goal.
Got it done in the end.
On the Burnley forum there is a post called the magic number and it's basically how many points they need to get to be mathematically uncatchable by anyone else and it's based on every team winning every game , obviously as they all play one another that's an impossibility but it's interesting to read, they need 14 wins to be promoted and only us could catch them if they got thoseI'm going to nail my colours to the mast and say here and now we are going up this season despite all the negativity on this forum at the moment. Performances are just that it is the points that matter. Yes West Brom and Boro are on great runs of form at the moment and have shot up the table into the top six but they have not closed the points gap to ourselves. We will soon be into the territory where if anyone wants to overtake us they will have to return a point per game more than we do and we are averaging 2pts per game. Anyone think Boro or West Brom are going to win all their remaining games? Even if they keep up their form to promotion winning 2pts per game standards we are going to have to go into relegation form of a point per game until the end of the season. I just can't see anyone catching us.
This is exactly the way I saw it, I also think some fans expect the game to play out like highlights, where you only see the exciting stuff, when they watch a full game and you have to account for the different phases of a match, which I'm sorry to say the majority of most games are largely boring, some fans have no patience and moan because they aren't being entertained in the way they thi k they should be.I honestly thought we were great for 20-25 minutes yesterday. It was like men against boys. And those bits of skill that McAtee and Ndiaye did were different level. I turned to my boy and simply laughed. Admittedly after that it became a bit drab. But for me thereās and argument that itās down to the opposition. The game just kinda passes by cos thereās no threat from the opposition. And I know Berge wasnāt at his best but the way folk have gone in on him is overboard, almost like they were waiting for him to have a game like that. Bottom line for me is that we werenāt at our best and yet still comfortably beat Stoke 3-1. Iām happy.
Anyway⦠9 more wins![]()
For 20 mins we were untouchable for any side in this league. You add McBurnie into the mix and I think we put the game to bed during that period.I honestly thought we were great for 20-25 minutes yesterday. It was like men against boys. 88 points is enough for autos this season. Watford would have to average 2.2 points per game to match that.Looking at. Goal difference which is a extra point 7 or 8. Wins we would go up imo
Some of you lot need to make sure the sharp knives are comfortably out of reach
Jeez looking at that the next 10 matches are a massive test , play offs anyone ?As things stand, the opponents are:
5th
6th
4th
3rd
7th
8th
9th
11th
24th
1st
It might look scary but everyone below Watford is only 90 mins away from dropping into the bottom half. There's no chance the current playoff teams with be the playoff teams by the time we play Boro. My guess is one, max two.
Also, have you seen our next 5 games? All against teams in the bottom half, 3 of which are at home.

Yes, but we are twitchy because twice on living memory a team has done that (WHU 7 wins from 9, Pigs 11 from 14) and we've been the team overhauled in the final reckoning.88 points is enough for autos this season. Watford would have to average 2.2 points per game to match that.
Must be a reason it happens to us thenYes, but we are twitchy because twice on living memory a team has done that (WHU 7 wins from 9, Pigs 11 from 14) and we've been the team overhauled in the final reckoning.
Also WBA/Wolves had a similar situation I the latest 25 years.
It doesn't happen often, but it does happen.
The thing with this is, we are a very good side. The amazing run needed to catch us has to coincide with a terrible run for us as well.Yes, but we are twitchy because twice on living memory a team has done that (WHU 7 wins from 9, Pigs 11 from 14) and we've been the team overhauled in the final reckoning.

Could it be that this forum, much as I enjoy it, doesnāt accurately represent the views of the wider community of actual supporters? I donāt get to many games despite my season ticket (so Iām not trying to set myself up as a bigger blade than anyone else) but I reckon a lot of the negative bilge posted on here comes from people who never actually go to BDTBL. I find that the views expressed on this forum are much more negative than those expressed by my United-supporting mates. Maybe there is something about footy-fan forums that attracts the pessimists?Normally a team in our position would get swept along by a tide of emotion from the supporters
Looks like ours will have to do it on their own
Our supporters have turned into spectators and we've lost the very thing that gave us an edge in games our crowd
The negative comments on here have outnumbered the positive ten to one
With many pointing out the obvious that another season in this division will have big financial repercussions but instead of that spurring them on to get behind a team that in spite of this pressure and a horrendous injury hit season have done phenomenally to get top two
All they can do is moan about the performances and make pissy juvenile comments about players who are in poor form
Doesn't matter to them that we are putting out a patched up team every week
Failure seems to be a comfort blanket for our fanbase and its like all the heartbreaks we've endured mean you can't be excited when things are going well because well ...you know ...its the blades way but what about Leicester away in 90 ?
Wilders team at Leeds bashams arriving ?
Warnocks team taking us back to the big time after almost disappearing up our own arses
And last but not least the bouncing day massacre when we changed the culture and mentality of both clubs by crushing there's and recalibrating ours?
I get it no ones seen more shit than me but why does being a blade have to be so fucking miserable ? Even when we are doing well so many seem to be out of their comfort zones of morose bitterness at the world around them?
It's not all bad we've had a lot more good times than most so why do so many desperately cling on to those bad times like that's just inevitably the way things are ?
I hate people using stats and common sense to dampen my fear!!I'm going to nail my colours to the mast and say here and now we are going up this season despite all the negativity on this forum at the moment.
