10 more wins

Nope, we only need 22 more points to guarantee second place. 21 to guarantee finishing above Luton.

But that assumes Boro/Luton win all their games - which they wont.

Four more and 3 draws might do it, 5 plus a couple of draws almost certainly will.

That win tonight was key. Now let's go out and get to a cup semi final!!
Boro and Luton still have to play each other.

Normally prefer results to performance as its points that count but tonight was all aglow as the necessary effort and composure was back in view.
Winner could be a tad contentious but we didn't get the shitty end of that stick tonight

Can see us winning 6, losing one (Norwich away) and drawing one (Burnley away) before our last game of the season at Birmingham City ... . Think that should be enough, eh?

7 it's certain 6 most probable
5 still highly likely 4 bit dodgy 3 dad I got it wrong again

Agree...from our last 9 matches....
think we'll win 5, draw 2 and lose 2....which will put us on 87 points..which will be enough.
Even think 5 wins, 1 draw and 3 losses putting us on 86 points could be enough too.

3 to go?
The prediction won’t be a million miles away. If we hold our nerve Blades fans we’ll be back in the big time!
Great result today. And the championship Barca lost to boot! Good times! 😁

I can't see Middlesbrough getting more than 2 points per game on average, which would put them on 81. Which means we need just 3 wins from 8 games (3 of which are at home against bottom half teams).

Note also that, apart from Burnley, the highest place team we have to play is WBA in 9th and we have to play 3 of the bottom 4.

It's looking good...

Think we still need more than 3 wins but think it’s very doable with the remaining fixtures

5 wins virtually guarantees it

3 wins and 5 draws would put us on 87 points, Boro and Luton can get a maximum of 88 points. So 3 wins is definitely possible

I think 82 will do it, which would be lower than some 3rd place finishes in the last few seasons

Anything higher requires the chasing pack to be averaging over 2 points per game to end the season

Standing by this

Would mean Boro need 15 from a possible 21 which includes games against Luton and Burnley

In regards to Luton, same situation, minus the Burnley game. Just don't see them picking up that many either, they'll have at least one loss and a few draws

It’s very unlikely I know but wouldn’t it be great if we were promoted before the semi final? There was even a possibility for us to be promoted while we played at Wembley bearing in mind the 4.45 kick off time but the Luton v Boro game has been moved to Monday night. How mad would that have been?

They can’t both win all their games as Boro have to go to Luton.

I think agent Khadra has ended Blackburns hopes of catching us they ain't going to win four more games than us from the last eight. Boro and Luton can only reach 88pts by winning every game which isn't going to happen. Five more wins almost certainly sees us promoted on 88pts, four wins and a draw could well be enough looking at Fridays fixtures. Luton away at Millwall which will be a battle and Boro home to Burnley, just a small matter of us hammering Wigan hopefully, to put the rest under real pressure.

Only one of them need to overhaul us.

Whichever one it is, we now need 16 points, by our own hand or through others both dropping them, and we are up.

Given we have 5 home games left you'd like to think we could do this.

Friday, again, is key. Wigan at home whilst the other two have Burnley and away at Millwall.

It's a chance (ahead of a tricky trip to Turf Moor) to further reduce that points required number.

True, but they could also draw

We’ve given ourselves a realistic chance of achieving what I thought was slipping away, but I’ll feel a whole lot more comfortable if Burnley can go to Boro and win next week along with Millwall getting a result as well
