Away from UK but understand Sheff Utd are signing Crewe striker Shaun Miller. Fee thought to be 60k.

Don't know owt about the lad

Anyone seen him in action?

Edit:

Shaun Miller moving to Bramall Lane might not be the only news from #Sufc this week.

Rob Staton

Last season scored a goal every 5 games WOW in a promotion season too, bet league one defenders are shitting themselves

the price tag justifies how good he is.60k,are we having a laugh!mark beard cost us slightly more than that and he was dire.60k,embarassing-put that towards saving peoples jobs down at the lane.

I do not know anything about the guy, but how uninspiring can you get? 60k, geez. Make it undisclosed to save the embarassment. 6 goals in 36 for a promoted team in League 2. Hardly fills us with confidence he can step up and deliver for a team in the division above.

We can only hope that he fits the fit, athletic, young and hungry player category and has a point to prove. Wilson (and the scouts must see something in him). On the face of it it does not look great though.

doesnt look inspiring, but then Wilson will be on a sifting through the bins round the back of the takeaway budget, as opposed to a full menu with cocktails at Silversmiths.
Lets hope the scouts see potential in there.

He scored 19 from 44 the previous season. That's an acceptable return.

I know nothing about him but maybe last season he was being asked to play a different role.

We were linked with him last season (at a slightly higher fee I think). I think the reaction on here was positive, based on his record the season before. Like Broomhill says, maybe he was used in a different role last season?

Someone like McLeod we wouldn't have been keen on after his loan with us but has done well since. Form fluctuates and maybe Danny is confident that he can exploit the potential he clearly has.

Whats price got to do with it?

Im sure we once bought a certain full back from Stockport for a five figure sum, didn't turn out that bad did it.

From what I hear from Crewe supporting friends he'll be a very astute signing if Wilson get get the best out of him (pretty much do with Miller what he did with Evans).

I'd also like to throw out the fact that a lot of us are clamoring for Mr Tonne to get a chance in the side.

I don't seem to remember him doing much at York in the league below Shaun Miller last season...

Carl Asaba cost £92,500, scored 23 Goals in 63 Starts and scored in the April Fools Day demolition job at Hillsborough.

Decent players can be bought for next to nothing.

He had a good season 10/11 then went to shit last season for some reason as reflected in the fee. Still if he is crap it is only £60k wasted.
£60k how embarrassing to publish that, poor old Danny Wilson having to be a skip rat to get players :(

Or 2 leagues below us .............. actually non league

The mega-million pound fees that some Premiership sides have wasted on average players is much more embarrassing (for them).

Depends how you look at it........... Lewis Grabben £400k to Bournmouth for a player with similar stats ( one decent season ) makes it look a good deal or the year before Le Fondre to Reading for £350k makes it look piss poor, I know which of the three mentioned I'd sooner have.

18 posts in without mention of a young forward signed from Doncaster for a similar sum....

That's the word Raul "Young" ................. at 24 this guy has had a few seasons at it and only delivered in one of them.
Another BD he will not be, and that was years ago anyway prices today bear no comparison to then.

A small gamble so DW must of seen something in him.

Crewe do produce decent youngsters.

The difference between players at different levels is generally confidence if their own ability. Some players develop late and some just don't. This is not arrogance which some young players have. Paul Rogers I think was 27, Ian Wright was 22 when he joined Palace and the list goes on.

My bigger question is, how many strikers do we need or are we sending some kids on loan

Porter, Cresswell, Cofie, Ironside and Philliskirk

I know some will say that Philliskirk is not good enough, well he is still a wage and needs to be considered

Crewe do produce decent youngsters.

He's unlikely to be the next Rob Hulse or Dean Ashton, but he had the one good season.

That season was under Dario Gradi, who's a reasonable judge and it was only when Steve Davis took over that it started to go wrong, so it may not be a case of Miller becoming a bad player. He has to be worth a go at that kind of fee.

Apparently one of his key attributes is his pace and ability to take defenders on with speed. That's according to his profile on Crewe's OS. Sounds a decent signing, could link up well with Cofie.

Long`time`ago`but`I`recollect`Billy`Dearden`from`Chester`reserves`£5k`I`think,`John`Flynn`Workington`they`didn't`turn`out`too`bad.

Didn't we sign some bloke for 40k called Brian Deane from a little club called Doncaster? He didn't do too bad either.

Granted it is much harder to find a hidden gem these days with the likes of PL clubs snapping up the best ones.

If this is true, Id trust DW to get the best out ouf him as he did with Evans last season.

Wtf has price got to do with it? How much did we pay for CE and if it weren't for DW that could have been classed as an "Embarassment".

£60k, this is more like the United I remember and love, scrabbling round to try and find and polish rough diamonds, give me this anyday over the monies thats been wasted on the majority of signings recently.

Dont think we paid a fee for KMac and he did ok.

Never seen the kid play (or heard of him for that matter) but seen enough youngters groomed by Crewe to think he might be worth a punt.
Will he add more than Cresswell (who probably earns that fee in a couple of months)? I can't see that he wouldn't.
