If he is to become a father, especially for the first time, it’s not unusual for the woman to protect disclosure of such information until the foetus has completed the first trimester.
Describing the potential father as ‘sick’, is fairly meaningless. Much easier to say, ‘ I have given him a few days off to deal with personal matters.

With his part in the process completed, it is unusual for the father to suffer any physical harm at this stage of the pregnancy.
