The graphs and charts today may be Visual Viagra to us, but I don’t suppose Vincent “Feels Like Making Love”!
A proper Blades day - McB overpowered them, Iliman danced round them, both Anel and JLT with goals and assists of sorts - and JLT died and was resurrected.
So how does the graphical overview look after Burnley?
Graph 1 compares this season to the Slav & Hecky results from last season. On 35 points we are still 12 points clear of last season. Matchday 19 was Slav’s last game – so after this Burnley match Hecky has now done a full 46 games. 87 points from 46 games – could be autos form.
Graph 1:

Graph 2 shows the League Position comparison with last year, and makes us much happier Blades than this time last year (16th)!
Graph 2:

Graph 3 compares this season to my benchmark sets of results which would achieve the playoffs and automatic promotion. You can see from this that we are now 6 Points Above the Certain Playoffs line and just 2 points below Certain Automatic Promotion.
Graph 3:

Graph 4 compares this season to our last 2 Championship promotions – Warnock 05/06 and Wilder 18/19. We finished second in both of those seasons, with 90 points in 05/06 and 89 in 18/19. You can see from Graph 4 that we are 1 point ahead of Wilder 18/19 but 10 points behind Warnock 05/06 after 19 games. I think these last 2 promotion seasons are interesting, as they had very different routes to almost the same points total and automatic promotion. As long as we’re between the two lines we’re on a path that we’ve trod before to the promised land.
Graph 4:

Finally the current League Table with our results so far. Not only did we close in on Burnley on points, we also had a 6 goal swing in goal difference – could be important. We have Rotherham and Cardiff before the break but Burnley and Blackburn both have just one game - against each other – the day after our game at Cardiff. So a couple more W’s and a fully fit squad after Qatar and the world’s our expensive shellfish!
Current Table:

To Burnley’s credit they came to play football, and continued to do so when they were in the lead. We are definitely at our best going head to head in games of skill and power, rather than trying to overcome defensive, counter-attacking shithousing.
