I thought I'd leave it a few days after the huge disappointment of the confirmation of our dropped bollock on Saturday to see if I was feeling any better about stuff.

I was still feeling a mixture of disappointed and angry yesterday when I got the text from SBSP asking if I was going to the home leg. Going to the first leg was never even considered, I really couldn't be arsed travelling to a night match for what is effectively the first half, especially considering the mood we've put me in.

Anyway, I really didnt want to go but reluctantly I agreed to the huge £14 outlay in the hope that the prospect of another game at the lane might reignite some passion and enthusiasm for the Blades. Thus far, it hasn't. I'm not remotley excited. I've made the lengthy journeys to our last three play off final no-shows but am really erring on the side of not bothering this time if we get there. It's an awful lot of money for a game we really shouldn't have needed.

It's not just the fact that we squandered such a commanding position, it's that it was those bastards that managed to capitalise on our capitulation. If it had been any team but the scum I would have been a lot more accepting. As it is, we've had to endure all the news of them and their twatting civic reception all pissing week. We really shouldn't have let them in.

Anyway, I suppose there isn't much point to this thread other than to have a bit of a moan and to see if anybody else is still feeling as low and deflated about the whole shitty situation.

If you are, what will it take for you to get your Blades mojo back? Three convincing wins in the next three games would be a nice start.

Deflated? With Crawley and Shrewsbury's new ground to visit? Not me!

:D

Know how you feel Latters, but I find myself looking forward to the Play offs.

And if it ends in disappointment once again, we'll finally have the big clear out that I think we've needed for quite a few years. If so I think it may feel like the start of something brand new come August.

Unfortunately this clear-out will also including those genuinely good enough, like McDonald. After the squad is dismantled in the Summer (if we don't go up) we'll be a threat to no-one next season.

Mixed feelings for me, the optimism in me thinking we have to break the play-off hoodoo one day, and the other one.............well i think you all know :(

I am prepared to give the club time if it eventually decides to build a team and squad for the long term. It must feel like we're improving and progressing along the way though.

Apart from the obvious diappointment that failing to get promotion will bring (increased ten fold by it having to be them that have). My biggest regret will be losing McDonald. There's others too, but he's the one that can make such a difference to the way we play. Somehow the others seem more replaceable, no disrespect to them and all that.
In the meantime Latters, I appreciate your sentiments entirely. If I had a spare Blades mojo to send you I would!

My low point with The Blades was when TC was sold .............................. nowt will ever come close to that for me.
Whatever result comes out of the playoffs a clear out at BDTBL is essential.

Last year I woud have sold every player. This season, quite a few have earned a bit of respect back. Despite some expert armchair over analysis, but for the stupidity of our main striker we would have been promoted.

I'd tread more carefully in clearing out. It will happen naturally over the next year and a half. If we find a decent striker and a decent keeper, we could be right up there next season. Any other changes should be focussed on pace and athleticism - the attributes missing in good 3rd division players like Flynn.

I look at the United squad and don't really see the need for a clearout.

I would only be really looking at replacing Simmo, bringing in some decent cover for defence, and midfield, and seeking a decent striker who can stick the ball in the back of the net.

1oo% agree. I thought Paddy Kenny would be relatively easy to replace. How stupid, am I. Similarly for Ched Evans (say 3 months ago)..With our most recent flirtation with the Premiership, apart from there being obviously better players (managers, whatever), the stand out was the shear athleticism too.. When you talk about quite a few earning respect back, I suspect you're talking about Collins and Doyle in particular? (well I am!)..I don't care whether it's wishful thinking, or players finding their true level, I do think Wilson's style/calmness has been a big factor...I like what I've seen from Flynn so far. On his first appearance he looked a little boy lost. He shows some quality, tenacity now, and has come on leaps and bounds .. We're not good enough though to see if he develops much further for us, sadly. Not saying all out pace and athleticism, but they are the 2 qualities so missing. Wilson signing the likes of L J-F gives me enough faith that he knows that too (other than the fact that he knows much more about football than me!).

If we do manage to miraculously go up, I think we need to all put a photo of DW on our avatar. (in the style of G.S.)

Simple fact is we fluffed our chances to seal promotion even before Evans got put away. Part of me thinks that even with Evans we may of still not sealed promotion.

We would of still had the Hoskins and Cresswell injuries to deal with and just had a fit main strike force of 3 Evans, Beattie (who's fitness is still questionable) and Porter (who is a bit shit)

Not sure OH counts as a striker because he seems like a winger to me.

"Part of me thinks that even with Evans we may of still not sealed promotion".

Give over Bladesman..I'll give you hypothetical odds of 100 to 1 that we might have just spozzed it

>My low point with The Blades was when TC was sold
funny my grandfather used to say the same thing but it was 'jones and birchenall' .. latter entrants would say 'deano and fjortoft'.. it never changes does it..
that being said, we need a new keeper.. lowton to midfield, two new fullbacks and a striker..
we already have the keeper (inexplicably sat on the bench).. so that's two fullbacks and beavon from wycombe.. the million quid from the playoffs and simmo/ched/monty wage savings should cover it nicely
it's easy this manager lark

At the start of this season I said that a top 6 finish would do for me, taking into account how poor we were when we came down. Danny and the players have comfortably delivered that so dont have any complaints really.

It's just a shame we couldnt see it out and clinch 2nd but it is what it is. The fact that it was the pigs who pipped us doesnt leave me any more frustrated than had it been anyone else. Honestly.

As for the playoffs, we're more than capable of beating all 3 of the other teams in it. Even with the squad we have left imo. Actually doing it is another story....we've been here so many times before and know whats probably coming....

What? Dead?

Too soon?

I think we'd have got a point at MK Dons. A point at MK Dons would have meant that promotion would still have been in our hands going to Exeter.

The whole of the last 3 games would have been different. The Evans verdict was a hammer blow to teh squad, you could see it in the performance at MK Dons...

So other than bringing in Defenders Midfielders and a Striker and not forgetting the Goalie theres no need for a clear out. Got it.

yep.. lowton, macdonald, willo, quinny, harry, collins and cressy is the core of a good team for championship level

Give over. We only got 2 points from the last 9 without Evans. I reckon we would have got at least 6 with him.

Squad next season IF we don't go up:

KP: Howard, Long, Willis

Departure: Simonsen

DEF: Lowton, Collins, Maguire, Kennedy, LJF, Williams

Departures: Conneely, Ertl, Morgan, Taylor, Warren, (Hill)

MID: Flynn, McAllister, Monty, Harriott, Doyle, Whitehouse, Tønne, Quinn, McFadzean

Departures: Williamson, McDonald

ATT: Cresswell, Porter, Philliskirk

Departures: Evans, Beattie (O'Halloran)

That is 12 players that I expect to leave the current squad, and I'd be surprised if a couple of more didn't follow. We'd have a lot of business to do.

I just tried this rather strange pint of real ale. It was lovely at first, but has had a strange aftertaste. Full bodied, good texture and really tasty. Quite hoppy, strong in volume and with a bit of a kick. Slipped down the throat perfeclty. Was really enjoying it and found it really refreshing. However it had this strange bitter after taste that started to dominate everything. Despite being a lovely drink and giving me lots of enjoyment, the after taste is dominating everything. It had been one of the best drinks I'd had for a while and was really restoring my faith, but then the after taste started to turn me a little. The closer I got to the bottom of the pint, the strong and more bitter the taste has become. Now I am down to the dreggs I just don't know if I can finish the pint as my taste buds have had enough, my stomach is turning and I have rather bad flatulence.
