Are night clubs closing this weekend? Are all concerts postponed? Are cinemas closing?

Government said it was up to football's governing bodies. Absolutely no reason to cancel football this weekend. As others have pointed out, there's no precedent. It's bollocks.

EFL - virtue-signaling wankers

I’m not sure it’s a bad thing for us. 3 games in a week when you’ve got a squad of 14 fit players would have been a tough task. At least we now have two & then a break to get players back

I think the mid week games will go ahead, following how horse racing has cancelled saturdays racing but pushed it onto sunday, so i fully expect the mid week games to be ok

Could be a blessing in disguise I suppose, especially if we get to play Tuesday and next weekend.

From a purely Sheffield United perspective, I think it would suit us if the games were to be postponed for the full 10 days.
Our squad is wafer thin so any respite would be welcomed.
We would then have until October 1st until our next fixture with the international break providing further relief.

From a national perspective, I'm torn.

I wouldn't underestimate the chance of violence / unrest if games go ahead.
You can see on this forum how polarising the views on the Monarchy are.
Large gatherings of football fans, differing views, during an emotional period for our country... has the feels for a boil over.
Throw in the general pent up frustrations with the cost of living crisis and disdain for the Government....
Fight over the passing of the Queen at a fucking match? I have never heard anything like it.

In my view it's definitely a good thing it's off. Rotherham are on good form, well up for the match, so are we too of course on both fronts but we're struggling injuries wise, it is possible Ahmedodzic isn't available either meaning an almost certain switch to 4 at the back which the players have never looked comfortable in for large periods. The game will now be arranged till after October 1st when we'll have more players back and potentially Rotherham not in as good form, but that's a lesser consideration.

Exactly, get past the annoyance of it because it being called off could be a small blessing. We have what? About 11 or so players out injured and even after Hecky's presser some were saying can't we get some matches called off with the COVID excuse.

Was looking forward to the Match. Only positive for the blades is that every match missed will be a step closer to getting players back and trimming down that ridiculous injury list.

I think it's nice, ceremony and occasion are the only things we do well anymore.

This is partly what frustrates me though, because the decision has effectively cancelled hundreds of occasions where respect could be shown.

We make a big fuss of respecting our dead at football matches, and do it very well. eg remembrance Sunday.

Not buying this being good for injuries. We're top of the league, in good form and playing Rotherham at home. That's more significant. No disrespect to them but it's a game we should be up for and win regardless. We don't tend to come back well from enforced breaks. Anyway, is what it is.

Trainline charge a refund fee based on the value of the ticket, the maximum should be £10 though (for tickets over £15). Not sure where the extra 20p loss would have come from!
Yes, correct as I've checked now and ticket was £30:80 with £10.00 admin fee deducted. Same ticket was £16:00 next week for same journey so that's worked out ok! Thanks for clarifying.

To be fair, my personal view is much the same as yours. There's no reason why the fixtures shouldn't go ahead, with the occasion acknowledged by the clubs.

And believe me, I am a bit disappointed in the lack of football. I'm on my fifth and final 12 hour shift and would rather have a highlight to my weekend.

I just think that there's a lot of nastiness mixed in with the disappointment from some quarters.

Whilst clearly an unplanned event, and from my perspective I need a holiday off work now for the Rotherham game, cause that'll be a midweek..

But, you have a fantastic point, yes it's something we all didn't want, but the timing of this regarding the player situation looks very convienient the more I think about it...

Anyway, its weekend, I'm off to pay my respects by drinking for 3 days solid now there's nothing else to do..
