David McGoldrick

Derby would be good for him. Believe he still lives in Nottingham, so it makes sense for that reason. Also, he can hopefully bag a few against the pigs.

Did have a feeling he would end up there.

Should be smashing L1 to bits.

Agree he's far too good for league 1 however it all depends how Derby County use him. Let's not forget that it's so ironic that Didsy plays up front as a striker when he's actually a poor finisher, he doesn't even have the right technique to get much power in his shots.

However if they play him deeper in the space between midfield and attack and have players around him on the same wave length, a strike partner who is quick and can make runs into space then Didsy will pull the strings and create loads of chances. Should be a great signing for them.

Derby could potentially have as many as 6 ex-Blades in their line up:

Stearman
Hourihane
Morrison
Mendez-Laing
McGoldrick
Kazim-Richards

Though looks like Rav has been let go.

Still enough to keep an eye on for both ex-player watch and also sabotaging the Pigs' season!

Best of look to Didzy, hope he has a good run there.

Fantastic signing for league one if he's anywhere near fit. Their mananger ( at the moment) is that Liam Rosenior who was a pundit who totally got and understood Wilder ball very quickly so will likely give Mcgoldrick that roaming role he loves

For those that are interested an interview from Didsy which includes some thoughts on his time with us, really good interview and I think he's made a great decision joining Derby. Also says he's a Notts County fan which made me like Didsy even more as the interviewer asked him on the fact he is from Nottingham! Always respected County fans having lived in Nottingham as a student, Forest fans on the other hand.....!

Go get it big dogg

The greatest player to ever grace league one

I will be buying a season ticket for David Mcgoldricks Derby county next season

Forgot the interview!

Wish him all the best and I am pleased if honest that he's gone to Derby over Boro as seeing him line up v us rather than for us would be sad in a way and no doubt he'd do really well and score!

Hopefully Derby with Didsy win back promotion and stop Wendy in the process as others have said!

Clearly the best time of his career has been at United. Four years is a very good stint at that stage.

He is right that he doesn't rely on pace anyway so if he remains fit, he can still do well there.

They have a lot of experience. It will be interesting how they go. As well as Hourihane, 31, and Didzy, 34, they have Stears, 34, Curtis Davis, 37, have just signed James Chester, 33, and already have Forsyth, 33 at left back. Further forward they added Mendez-Laing and Barkhuizen, 30 and 29 as well as Kazim-Richards, 35.

Not all elder statesmen though. They have legs in midfield in Bird, Thompson, Knight and Sibley in the 20-21 category. Also have Blilek as well so it will be a strong midfield.

Forgot the added bonus that Wildsmith joined so Wednesday can keep saying how bad he is, as he gets promoted and they don't!

I think they have been playing 4-2-3-1 so maybe an alternative to Kazim-Richards would just top it off and perhaps a conventional right back, unless Chester is planned there and they look to have decent options. As mentioned, Jebbo would be perfect to rotate with Kazim-Richards.

The successes of 2018/19 and 2019/20 under Chris Wilder were not down to one man, one sole player alone - but this man really was a large part of that success. We could say the same for Sharp, Duffy, Henderson, O'Connell et al.. but for me anyway, it's genuinely hard to imagine we'd have achieved promotion to the Premier League without McGoldrick in that side.

A decent guy and a true professional who always played with heart, drive and determination. To his credit, he was a very intelligent player when played in behind the strikers.

Even when he was missing his chances in the first Premier League campaign, there was not one performance I can think of where he went missing when many players would have done. He always wanted the responsibility on the ball, he always played for the badge. Good luck McGoldrick, you deserve every success! Once a Blade!

I think that last paragraph sums it up really well and hits on what Blades fans appreciate.

I think he was genuinely touched by the support he got. I think he mentioned the time he missed an open goal away at Brighton and the reaction of the away fans wasn't of criticism but a resounding "oh, David McGoldrick!"

That sort of support is bound to stick long in the memory.

Must say I am shocked how well liked McGoldrick is on here. Always thought he was a reasonable player at Championship level but nowhere near clinical enough.
From the outside I can see why you would think that. However his contribution on the pitch wasn't limited to goals alone. His touch, movement, passing and craft on the ball were invaluable whether as a starter or off the bench as he did in his last season more often, so many goals were created through his play, whether as an assist or his link up play often picking up the ball in a deeper role and we'd overload the oppositions midfield. Then there's the personality. You'll have had similar players at Forest who just get the club and in Didsy's case he did that in spades and he comes across as a very likeable person. He is one of the most popular players we've had in the club's entire history, he'll no doubt be in many people's favourite eleven that fans love to do. I couldn't shift Billy Sharp and Brian Deane from my first 11 but he is still right up there and if I was younger I'm sure he would have been in it.

Anyway, I'll be interested to see how Forest do next season, I can't say I wish you the best, but I do think you'll be the pick of the promoted sides and your recruitment looks good so far.

I remember that game, I was there!

Totally agree - he's an honest professional who had some quality and Football intelligence. Of course he had his flaws in front of goal, but he still had the ability to contribute to the team in some way even in his difficult spells. He was also one of the only players who came out of the relegation season with any credit.

Some of the younger players could definitely learn a lot from him in terms of application and professionalism on the pitch.

An actual legend of this club.
If he can get back to full fitness that's a hell of a signing for Derby. Great that he's staying local to home too as that seemed to be an issue for his fitness.
Also a behind the scenes leader and all round good guy.
His finishing isn't great, but what a footballer. So silky and linky. Just play him and let him figure out where he needs to go and what he needs to do to help.
I actually wish we'd kept him on.
