Thoughts on the kit?

To answer her question - yes.
Serious question, is the new kit from Errea that bad? ( I haven't had the opportunity to see it in person)
When Errea was announced as the new kit sponsor I went along to a local stockist in Spain and then an Errea store in Milano during a visit there and although some if the general sportswear styling looked ok, the quality did appear poor!

Errea is what I call 'Sunday league'. Adidas and Nike are your 'top flight' stuff. Every single brand of clothing can have errors in stitching, don't get me wrong. But you'd expect more with Errea over Adidas for example.

I've seen too many of these images now. I'll get one when they're on sale, at proper Errea prices.

Yet they charge, what is it, £55 for an adult shirt?

Think so yeah. A lot of people are blinded to the errors by the fact it has a Blades badge on it. Doesn't matter about the poor stitching, wonky badges and whatever else, it's a Blades shirt and I'll be damned if it gets slagged off!! I posted images directly from the website onto this thread that showed errors in the products. It's bad when the club are advertising their own products with faults on them. Not the clubs fault, of course. They sell what they're given. Although United should have someone at that end having a look.

By the way, I'm not a brand snob by any stretch.

And don't get me started on this whole bespoke stuff. That's a proper marketing con that got a lot of people excited.

But Errea has better design work and customization than Nike and adidas. Some people value that and then pay more for the design part and less for the stitching. With Adidas and Nike you pay way too much for templates stuff with zero customability and all money goes into stitching. It just depends what you value in a shirt. Brands that get both the design, customization and the quality right are rare. Umbro is probably an exception at the moment.

I want quality workmanship for my money. I pay a mechanic to fix my car, not to fix it in his own unique way. I pay a plumber to fix my leak, not to redirect the leak out the window.

Some folk might be different. They might think that stripes on the back is the pinnacle of a shirt.

As Errea standard is now set, what would be a reasonable price, in your opinion, knowing everything has a price, for the shirt. £25-£30?

Comparing services to products is a bit odd. Compare with clothes, some look cooler and have more design others are very plane and have better material. My point is that design and customization also has a price and the big brands save on that aspect by overtemplating their kits so that they all look the same.

Regardless of design and material though, there is a baseline, a bare minimum you should be able to expect from any clothes manufacturer, and competent stitching is part of it.

I got the black shorts for my holiday. I quite like the material but the white trim on the bottom overlaps the red trim ( they are not stitched together) and so it folds up in places so doesn’t sit straight like it should . Bit annoying for someone with OCD ! Other than that the quality is decent!
As ever UTB !

Has anyone bought any of the training gear yet? I really like the look of the 'Brandon Tee' but I've heard a few say the sizing is a bit off with the kits. Wondered if anyone had one and could confirm sizing and quality?

£40 does seem a bit steep for a training t-shirt but I'm hoping they'll be in the sale come Jan.

It's an interesting point but can you say the design is better? It's certainly more exclusive but not necessarily better. The first Adidas shirt was shocking but the rest have been some of the best we've ever had in my opinion.

I don't think there should be a compromise in quality over having more control of the design.

I know you have a more professional opinion judging by your username but I wouldn't say that Adidas consistently produced great kits for us. What they did do was not produce any bad ones which is more than can be said for the majority of our other manufacturers.

It's been done elsewhere but for me:
Great - 16/17 home; 17/18 home, 17/18 away (purple), 17/18 third;
Good - 15/16 home*; 19/20 away; 21/22 home; 20/21 away, 20/21 third
Average - 18/19 home, 18/19 away; 19/20 home; 20/21 home; 21/22 away
Poor - 14/15 home; 14/15 away; 15/16 away; 16/17 away;

All here if you want to disagree with me

For what it's worth I'd put this season's third in great, home in good and away in average.

* I know this will be controversial

Design is subjective so I'd never dispute your choices even if I did disagree.

The quality of the Adidas shirts was always very good, I think the new shirts look great but it's understandable that people aren't prepared to pay the same price for lesser quality. Is a great shirt only judged on deisgn?

I know the training gear we’ve got is supposedly a bit more ‘bespoke’ than the standard Sunday league gear, however:

Blades top @ £60

Versus Errea standard top @ £13.97:

If the club was to come out and say “we’re making a shitload more per item on the Errea stuff” I probably wouldn’t mind.

Compare the standard Condivo that Adidas have used with a Blades badge for the last few years and that’s £50 unbadged anyway and definitely much better quality than either of the Errea tops above:

Having seen the Errea training gear in our club shop the quality looked absolutely crap in comparison with the Adidas stuff.

There does seem to be an absence of recognition that Errea is a step down in brand compared to Adidas.

As you say, maybe we make more.

But it does feel a little like you’re now having your shopping done at Tesco instead of Waitrose yet the person doing the shopping for you is still giving you the same change at the end!

It wouldn’t be unreasonable to see the prices dropped slightly but then again from the club’s side, demand is probably quite inelastic so why not maximise?

My Brandon tee arrived yesterday. I wanted a United top but didn’t want one of the kits as I don’t want to look like a Covid test or have Ultimate Champions on my arse. The Brandon top seemed perfect for going for a run or other sport. I am usually a size large, but ordered XL after all the chat on here about sizing.

Result…

Design: Really like it a lot. Looks good from a distance and the details up close look nice.

Sizing: XL is too big for me. It’s a boxy fit too and also very long. Large would be a better size but I don’t think the fit would be what I want.

Quality: I really thought people on here were being overly picky and obsessing about tiny details that really don’t matter unless you held the kit an inch from your eyes… but… this top is very very poor. My main issue is the material. I usually wear Nike Dri-Fit or similar, but although I wasn’t expecting that standard, the top still fell way short of my low expectations though. It just feels cheap and nasty. I suspect it would be not great for using for sport. As for general stitching, the badge, etc… that all seems fine.

Overall: I am returning it rather than exchanging for a better size. I wish I had bought one of the Adidas training tees last year! If anyone has one is size large and wants to sell it please let me know! Also, my son was waiting to see what mine was like before deciding what to order, and he has now decided to not bother.

I suspect the club may have a better looking deal with Errea, but will lose out through lower quantities in the long run.

Gutted.

This ☝️☝️
We're not being brand snobs. It's just a fact that most people would buy the more upmarket clothing if they had a choice.

For instance, if you needed a running top and went to SportsDirect...
Next to each other you have a £20 Errea, a £25 Adidas and a £30 Nike - 90% of people wouldn't choose the Errea... Then imagine that the Errea was the same bloody price as the others 👀

If I buy a kit for my lad I'd only get from an official retailer, but when you see DH gate already had the toddler sizes in stock, and about 1/4 the price of official it does make you wonder.

Quality of Errea already been shouted out (not by me as not seen any of there gear very close up), dread to think what the knock offs would be like

Cheers for the info mate. Sounds like I'm better off waiting until there's 50% off before even thinking about buying any of the training gear then. It's a shame too as I really like a lot of the designs. I'll try and have look in the club shop and see what they look like up close.
