Remembering my Dad what a Blade

My Dad died during our 89/90 promotion season.

Leicester was a bitter sweet day.

He was the reason I'm a Blade and I went to nearly every game with him, home and away.

Still think about him all the time but can't fail walking through the Lane car park as Joe Shaw was his favourite ever player.

I'm not religious but it's nice to think that maybe all these departed Blades are somewhere watching on.

Kin love this

Cut from different cloth as they say

Now days snowflakes want a duvet day for when they can’t be arsed to get out of bed

Bet she can still give you a word and you can be put in your place😂😂

As kids there was nothing more terrifying than my Mum getting angry with us.

Not my Dad, uncles, aunts, teachers, police, nobody

There was always a saying "Wait till your father gets home" in other households

But in our house it was definitely "wait till your mother gets home"

It’s been 19 years today since he passed away fellow Blades and it’s down to him I’ve been a fanatical Blade ever since I always remember him holding my hand on the way to Ground my first match and our celebration as Doc Pace scored my first ever goal…Not a day goes by without me hoping he would walk through the door it doesn’t get easier does it
Been to me dad's plaque at lane today. Tears still flow. Took me to my 1st march at 5. Beat pigs 3 2. Still miss his optimism.

They say you get over grief, no you don't, the pain does get easier, never goes away.
All you can do is remember them with happy moments, lots of love and affection.

I suspect that Dads are the reason why most of us are here on this forum. On some days you can't forgive them for the affliction they passed on to us, but on all days, you can never thank them enough for the inheritance.

I had the names of two generations of fathers etched into the brickwork at Bramall Lane. What I wouldn't give to have five minutes more with either of them.

My late big brother in my case.

Set my sights on immortality myself but if I have to go then I wanna go while watching the Blades - not today though!

Great opening post my friend and so emotional. I actually had tears remembering me of my grandad. He had a mild cough, went to hospital, and we all thought it was nothing. Turns out he had lung cancer and never went home.
It was during the Triple Assault Season, and he'd never seen the Blades enjoy a Cup Win.
I remember us all - cousins and uncles rushing to the hospital after each leg , and telling him how we'd won this, won that, and the joy of giving him the results at his bedside, as we progressed up the league and cup competitions. I genuinely thought that we'd win something, like it was in the stars, and give him one last season to see the Blades in victory.
But that's the Blades! That's how they disappoint you!
I actually designed the VHS cover for the Triple Assualt season, so it was even more emotional for me.

My Grandad also died during that season in October, he was born on Boston St round the corner from the Lane and he was the reason I'm a blade.
I also remember after every win that season thinking that it was fate that they were going to finally win something and he would miss it. But like you say it was typical Blades how it ended, I think he would have loved that season all the same despite the disappointment.
Nearly 20 years ago now 😱

Loss never gets easier. But the memories mean we get to keep the best parts with us.

My dad first took me to the Lane and it’s been three years since he passed. I moved house recently and found some old programs from 88/89 he’d scribbled line up changes on the back of.
