Stewards at back of Kop gangway F

I don’t understand why it’s just on this gangway either. Surely if they were checking tickets, it needs to be across the whole stand?

If I’d jibbed in, I’d just go down Gangway E, if I saw them checking tickets on F.

Having spoken to someone who stewards at the Lane- they reckon they're checking for widespread abuse of ambulant disabled carer passes, most of which are situated in this area of the Kop and that there "should be about 15 tickets" but there's ended up being "about a hundred".

Apparently carers also used to be able to gain access on to John Street (presumably dump the person they're caring for?!) then move to the Kop (news to me) but this has also been stopped.

If you're the carer for a disabled person then surely you should be sat with them rather than fucking off and leaving them to it for the duration of the match?

Yeah, it did surprise me. I did try and get clarification but the queue for the office microwave wasn't the best place to do so 🤣

But yeah... checking for carer tickets is apparently what they're up to and their instructions have come from Jon Helliwell.

Linz this is new information to me and affects both my daughters, one who is disabled and one who is her carer. Is the person you have spoken to an experienced steward and would be able to confirm the accuracy of this statement? There are issues with ambulant carer passes and access to the Kop for the disabled. The numbers 15 and 100 are figures I'm aware of. It may be the steward is confusing this with the goings on at gangway F. If true my blood pressure has just gone up a level. Perhaps you could PM me?

I have investigated a number of incidents at the Millwall match affecting disabled access affecting not only my daughters but a number of other poorly treated disabled supporters. I have sent a detailed report to the club raising the legality of their actions. I await their response.

I will not go into the detail here as that would not be appropriate at present until I receive a response from the Club.

By way of back ground one of my twin daughters is disabled and has previously accessed the John Street Disabled entrance with her twin sister who is her designated carer. They make their way through the John Street concourse and access the Kop at the bottom of the JSS to get their season tickets seats on the first few rows of the Kop. This has been their normal means of access for a number of years. This access was prevented at the Millwall match without prior communication and a number of disabled supporters were separated from their carers. The reasons given related to a number of safety issues.

This treatment of the Clubs most vulnerable set of supporters is very concerning and if anyone else on here is affected I'm happy for people to PM me with the details so I can let them know how the Club have responded to me.

I'm not sure there's anything else to add - certainly nothing confidential. They are a steward on the John Street of many years and said they had received abuse for implementing the measures over the last two matches - they understood from the club that these changes had been communicated to those concerned (when they clearly hadn't).

It was their understanding that abuse of carer tickets was the reason for checks on certain gangways of the Kop when I asked. There's also widespread abuse of concessionary tickets so this may be part of a wider crackdown.

They weren't making a "statement", just answering my question when I asked.

its well known that concessionary tickets are abused its been like it for years the number of 6ft children with beer bellies has increased and i dont diasagree with staff challenging this but invariably they need back up and it shoudl be dealt with before they get up to the kop area on the south stand there is a light system that flashed green for standard tickets and orange for others the problm is it doesnt differentiate between child/senior/student etc.

the club should put the meatheads on the turnstles and check before entering

Think these are separate issues getting confused. Ticket checking on gangways F and g is due to standing and gathering at the top by people who shouldn't be in those areas. Causing safety issues

access from John Street to kop has been stopped, those disabled who had official permission from the club had been informed, loads that were just doing it obviously couldnt, and the reason its now stopped.

I wondered if the Euros flagged something in terms of access in that only those physically unable to use other entrances should be using the dedicated John Street entrance and that if you sit on the Kop, you're accepting that you are physically able to enter/exit via normal channels in case of evacuation or emergency.

yes very likely if you have a disability at work then you should have a PEEP (personal emergency evacuation plan) to ensure you get out in an emergency if you cannot for ambulatory issues then your work should arrange a reasonable adjustments etc
It may be that if you have a disabilty then dependant on that disabilty would require you to use the standard entrance rather than John St it does seem petty though as i would view this as a reasonable adjustment for people with a disabilty.

unitl the club responds though we are all speculating

This is definitely an issue, but they do have a "system" in place, I believe the turnstyles turn green when adult, and orange when junior etc. Putting a steward in charge of checking this would solve most of the issue.

Have a steward on the inside of the turnstyles looking at the colour and, if they believe the person if of a different category, they get challenged.

Doing it at the gangway, where its already tight for space is not the answer.

Been told a number of fans are taking legal advice regarding no disabled toilets on the kop
In the past a pass was given to people on the kop with disabilities so they could use the facilities in John Street and avoid using stairs
This for some reason has been stopped this season.
Also the press have got hold of video footage of alleged malpractice by stewards on the kop against young supporters,I would imagine this will become apparent in the coming days

Does anyone know if it was a new security company yesterday or just new staff? The reason I am asking is there were some serious issues yesterday at the disabled entrance affecting a number of fans, my daughters being 2 of those. I'm afraid some of the incidents where disabled people were separated from their carers causing considerable distress are concerning and I will be taking the matter up with the club in due course.
Good luck. Any response yet?

If it carries on with them mistreating fans, then you would imagine it will only be a matter of time before it kicks off with the stewards. You would imagine the fans at the back of gangway F will only tolerate being treat like shit for so long.

If enough people complain to the club they will at least get the message particularly if the very young, old or disabled are being disadvantaged.

Gang way F is my entrance to the holy land. The best thing I heard all day yesterday was “ the worst thing Is your a cunt in real life and now your a cunt in a high vis jacket” the lady that said it must have only been early 20s. She was

And people talk about Kop being scum central. Sounds like the yellow jacketed jobsworth was in good company all round.

Think they should be checking tickets before entering, witnessed 2 lads squeezing through with 1 ticket on Saturday ( gate 52) on the Kop.
Surely must be easier doing that way?. That’s if they feel the need to check on tickets.
The thieving scum.

At half time there were 4 of them stood round, one with bandana on his head, others covering their face, nose down.
Think they thought they were big hitters. Not what is needed.
In good company among all the spotty adolescents from the Manor, probably all related.

Are these fuckers vetted at all? Or do they just give minimum wage jobs to the same neanderthals you see up town on a Friday night?
Looking at the video it seems that one or two of them missed the de-escalation bit in training

While the stewards are within their rights to ask to see your ticket and some form of ID at any time I'm not sure this gives them any rights to snatch tickets out of peoples hands, push them about and threaten them as I witnessed in the video's on Shoreham view's Twitter feed. I'd be making a formal complaint to the club if it was me.

The ones with passes were the same ones who entered via John St disabled entrance with permission. As discussed in this thread this is also stopped. If they can manage the stairs to get in, guessing the thinking is can manage them to go to the toilet. Can't have loads wandering back and forth between kop and John St on trackside. a few with passes could be allowed, 100 could take John St over allowed numbers and harder to manage.

We shouldn't be selling seats on the kop to the disabled there are no places for wheelchairs on the kop. Access to the kop is by stairs with only one exit via the tunnel in the corner not having stairs we know the kop is not fit for purpose or not up to modern day standards. If carers are dumping their clients in the disabled enclosure and swanning off onto the kop they are taking the piss that isn't caring for someone it is getting a free ticket by accompanying a disabled person who does not need a carer alongside them.

The people I personally know have had season tickets on the kop for upwards of 20 years and obviously their health has deteriorated over the years

In no ways is this as important as the issue surrounding our disabled fans access, but at both home games i have had some interesting conversations with the (bar)stewards. My season ticket says i should access by gangway E yet my seat number is central between gangways G&F; never noticed it before but doesnt make any sense and when you are faced with overly officious idiots insistent on making me walk 2 gangways past where my seat is it creates unnecessary conflict. At the Milwall game there was nearly a young steward learning to fly from the top of G when he tried to stop someone twice his size walking past him

It would save a lot of speculation/aggro if the club told fans why the checks were taking place. We must all receive several emails each week, there's a matchday programme, big screen and Gary Sinclair. Surely it's not all that difficult to let us know what's going on?
