His price is as high as it'll ever be now and we need cash to pay the installments on the original fee. He'll be sold, 100%. Just hope the new lads get up to speed quickly enough for his departure to not cause too much disruption.

If he had a season of games like Saturday, let's say he scored 10-15 and assisted something similar... even going into the final year of his deal, would his price really drop that significantly? If there were 2/3 interested parties I think the figures would be within 25%. And we'd have given ourselves a massive chance of promotion in the meantime.

Possibly. Another year older, 1 year of contract left - who knows. The bean counters at the club will not want to gamble and will want/need hard cash I feel.

Would be criminal not to keep him until January now. What if we're clear at the top of the league?

For him to leave now of all times to Belgium of all places would be incredibly bitter. And it really isn't worth moving just to play a few games of European football... been there done that

But if he does go, Choudhury and Davis is the sort of thing we need to be looking at. It by no means has to be a season wrecker. For me it would just be more that its a horrible shame to finally see the player we thought we signed only for him to be snatched away

To be fair to CaptainMorgans i too noticed that his goal celebration was a bit subdued. I don’t think anything was being made of it per se. And CaptainMorgans corrected himself which is the opposite of bad form I’d say.
1. He did celebrate his goal.
2. He was smiling.
3. It was a shite knee slide celebration.
5. He's a cool Scandinavian, he doesn't do emotional!
5. It took his team mates an age to get there to celebrate with him! Where had they been???
6. What a player he's becoming.
7. If we sell him it'll be the worse decision since sold Jan Åge Fjørtoft!
8. We need to go all out to keep him.

Essentially what we have to acknowledge is that there is a number that the club will accept. We can't do what wolves are doing with MGW.
I don't think it's as high as £35m the release clause.
I don't think it's as low as £17m.

I suspect anything over £22m with most of it upfront and he will be sold.

So it's up to whether other clubs want to bid that high.

That's why I don't think he will.

If no decent PL or Bundesliga club come in, he'll stay
I think if any club came in from one of the top 4 leagues then he'd soon be off but I agree - can't see it being Belgium. It's a couple of half-decent sides and the rest made up of League One standard.

Might get to play in the Champions League group stages 5 or 6 times a season but what's the point if the rest of the season is against a load of no-marks?

I'd really like to keep him. You can't replace that type of quality at this level and we've seen the effect he can have on games this weekend. Surely we hold out until January and assess.

Compared to where we were 6/7 months ago where it was pennies on the dollar for any potential fee as we’d not seen the best of him. We aren’t in a bad position comparatively

We either are able to cash in for a decent amount or we keep a player who is almost too good for the league.

I love to keep him (as I think we stand a better chance of going up) but We’ve also already got the potential replacements in like McAtee and Khadra. So we aren’t going to be left ridiculously short.

He is our best player and has the ability in him to win us matches

As such We should tell him we will build a team around him to showcase his talent, then in January review our position and support him in a big move should we not be looking at the prem ourselves

He seems a decent kid, hopefully he sees going to Belgium would give him a dozen or so bigger games, followed by playing the equivalent of yeovil In front of 7k fans

I agree with that. To be clear, it was a momentary “hmm, seems a bit subdued in that celebration”. I wasn’t conducting a forensic investigation into his mental state!

Wouldn’t see the point and as I’ve said before the whole ‘Champions League team’ is a load of bollocks.

Fola Esch from Luxembourg are a Champions League team. They got knocked out by Lincoln Red Imps from Gibraltar last year. They’re a Champions League team. They in turn lost to Skupi of North Macedonia. They can all claim to be 'Champions League teams.

Unless they are a team that is going to compete in the group stages regularly and occasionally get to the knock out stages what is the point in having to out up with a lower level league playing in front of small support each week?

Look at the gates in the championship this weekend. Bigger than most leagues in Europe.

The whole 'Champions League club' is a total misnomer. We'll never compete in the Champions League but we're bigger than probably 80% of the teams that enter it.

That's not me being cocky. It's stating fact. We just happen to be based in a country where there are a lot of big clubs. Not sure moving to be a big fight in a smaller pond is really what Sander's next move should be.

Hecky said the other day that the club can't afford to bring in some cover for Furious at RWB - if that's true and they are so short of money , Berge will be sold if the bid meets valuation.
It explains why Khadra , McAtee & Doyle have been brought in.
And next summer we will have virtually no midfield players in contract.

He also said we were only looking at a right back before we brought in McAtee.

I’m not sure we take PH’s transfer updates at face value to be honest. We gain nothing from saying we’ve loads of cash to splash - other than someone else putting the prices up.

.... which is why anyone going overboard praising Utd for this transfer window should calm down a bit

As for no back up RWB, good. That would only be a waste. Khadra, Basham and Osborn can play there

Or, & hear me out on this, maybe keeping Berge is more crucial to our promotion chances than signing what will in 2 months time be a 3rd choice RWB.
No doubt he will be sold if a bid meets valuation, but our valuation of him should consider the consequences of not gaining promotion to the premier league because letting him go at any price seriously hampers our ability to get back up.

I think his current value is surpressed by his fitness record and relatively low goal contribution numbers in the Championship.

A full season here, playing that free role, prove his body is up to English football, post higher numbers - I don't think his value drops. I think it would be a calculated risk to keep hold of him and give ourselves a real shot at promotion.
Nobody has stood out in the early running.
The best performances I've seen are ourselves (1st half v Millwall) & Burnley (1st half v Huddersfield).

If Berge can maintain that millwall level of performance all season the world will be at his feet and he can take his choice of clubs. Playing like that he wouldn't look out of place at a real top top club

If he plays that well, we’ll be promoted, and if we’re promoted, he’s staying

Championship is probably the 5th biggest league in Europe.

What's better? PL, La Liga Serie A, Bundesliga.

The French, Dutch, Belgian etc. Are all toss. Portuguese league stronger than them.

I'm sure if you give a footballer the option of challenging for silverware in Belgium or Portugal and playing in the Champions League or playing for Birmingham or Swansea, I can guess which one they choose.

Look at Lunny. You can mock the Scottish league but he's achieved more than any of our players are likely to achieve.
