Yesterday's debut by Anel Ahmedhodzic was one of the best I've seen in a United shirt. This is my team of United players' best debuts (my memory might be at fault with some facts, so correct me if I have put anything wrong).
1. Mel Rees v Liverpool. We had a goalkeeping crisis and was worried when we got a journeyman goalkeeper in. He turned out to be fantastic for us and helped keep a clean sheet against Liverpool.
2. Wayne Quinn v Sunderland. A surprise selection by Nigel Spackman, but he had a great debut attacking on the left and turned out to be a cracking wingback for us.
3. Vas Borborkis v Sunderland. A superb debut, possibly best first match I have seen in a United shirt. Absolute class and Sunderland couldn't cope with him.
4. Gordon Cowans, can't remember who it was against, but as soon as I saw him play you could see how he had had such a successful career. Could barely run, but always seemed to be where thr ball was.
5. Harry Maguire v Cardiff . Came on a substitute and the first thing he did was put Craig Bellamy on his backside. A great way to win over fans!
6. Anel Ahmedhodzic v Millwall. Best debut in years, fast going forward, crunching tackles just what we need. The bad news is that looking at this list shows a good debut doesn't always mean a successful career!
7. David Frain v Sunderland. Fast and skilful, I predicted he would play for England. It wasn't to be, I guess I was young and naive!
8. Michael Brown v Portsmouth. A loan signing initially and played so well that Unitrd fans were wanting us to sign him. What a great signing he proved to be!
9. Tony Daws v Blackburn. I wasn't at the match but scoring two goals on your debut isn't a bad start!
10. Bobby Davidson v Wednesday. The all time best debut for United. Roy Of The Rovers stuff scoring twice on your debut against your big rivals!
11. Peter Hetherston v Barnsley. An early signing by Dave Bassett and a great debut, he kept hitting the woodwork though which was a bit unlucky. Might have chosen Tony Agana who also looked good on his debut.

In terms of a league debut (he technically played in the league cup v Hull first), Ollie Norwood against Aston Villa in the 4-1 win in 2018.

He fucking ripped them to pieces, scoring in the process as well. I've rarely seen us utterly obliterate a side so comprehensively, and he was at the forefront that day.

Funny how things change.

Shame it wasn't a debut, ok going to stretch 1733blade, original post here.
Leon for us at the rust bucket.
I know it wasn't a debut in terms of UTD, but it was for Leon back there.
Sorry.
I'll get back under my duvet

The only problem I have is that you're calling me 1733 Blade, I'm not that old! 😆

Never forget Mel Rees for the short time he was with us he was fantastic, like a cat etched in my brain forever ❤️

Willie Falconer v Swindon

Unfortunately it was downhill after that

Hartfield away at palace but then he just seemed to disappear

Paul McGrath - must have been good, because the few games he played for us, he was always a joy to watch.
And for the oldies, Derek Pace v Blackburn, Boxing Day 1957. We didn’t know he had been signed, within 8 minutes he scored, and he just carried on scoring…

Paul McGrath was essentially a slightly bigger version of my hero but with bad knees but , as you say , an absolute joy to watch .

As for that cold but gloriously sunny Boxing Day in 1957 , it is well up there in my all time favourite Blades matches and the man who made it so is still one of my all time favourite players , the Noble Doctor Pace .
