Clark had an iffy first half hour hour at Watford but improved as the game went on and he was out of position. Today he was solid. Panic over.

MUCH more confident in that defence. All three looked composed and assured. Millwall were always going to have chances with the size of the lands coming up from the back but we didn't look vulnerable, at all.

We are just lacking some midfield legs and a bit of creativity but I think the back three look.solid if we can get bogle back and get RND or Lowe performing at lwb we have a chance

The thing with Clark was how dominant he was in the air. There were a couple of times he bossed Cooper at set pieces.

Yes a 2-0 win with a one man midfield was incredible.

Yes thought the defence looked really solid and these three were outstanding. Despite us completely surrendering midfield in the second half (which is a worry) Wes didn’t really have a save to make. Most promotion teams are built on a solid defence so bodes well. Other thing….we beat Millwall, one of our bogey teams. They did the double over us last season and generally we always lose to them. When you start to beat your bogey teams you know you have a chance of promotion!

Amazing that Clarke, a centre half with a few years Prem League experience, looks half decent with a week or so to settle in.

Thought he was really good today and will surely be a solid addition. Surely going to be a good signing at this level.

Couldn't believe the amount of people slating him in his first game for us, playing on the wrong side of defense against the best forward in the league.

Rest assured this guy is a solid defender and as a whole our defence is wayyyy stronger than last season.

1 goal condeded in 2 games, keep that up and we're going up.

I think it's unwise to count on Bogle - we need immediate cover at RB - Which sub would have replaced Baldock today ?

I never expected Clark to be that mobile down the left. Pretty sure he made one or two marauding runs in first half.

We've gone from being a bit shite in the air at the back to now with Clark and Anel, we are absolutely solid. Did cooper even win one attacking header?

People are often too quick to praise after having a good game and too quick to knock after a bad game, players judged over a few games is fair.

The three of them did really well yesterday, Anel early on looked like Basham on speed or something charging forward.

Looks promising.

Our defence made all the difference in the return to the Premiership. When Joc got injured it scupper us big time. Maybe Anel and Clark will be the making of us.

Just wondering if Utd should have Basham alongside Berge in midfield with Mcatee/khadra

I thought this thread title was about another blades related "unconventional" child's name.

You can just imagine the conversations, explaining to everyone that you're named after the Sheffield United defence that kept a clean sheet against Millwall once.

I'm of the opinion that this is our best defensive unit.

With these three we have players at the back that can mix it and play it.
As with the Millwall match, with these 3 we'll be so hard to break down. You then just need the front 3 (Berge, Ndiaye, McBurnie - there can't be any better in the division) to get 1 goal between them to probably win a game.

I know others disagree, but I've never seen Egan as a great organiser / leader.
Clark, however, seems to have those qualities and has been in a promotion (& title winning) side before.

With Clark & Anel we have a good support system to enable Egan to do what he's best at, whereas when he plays with Basham and Robinson I often feel he looks really exposed and vulnerable.

Great to see them all back in training and really hope they start at Huddersfield and build that understanding.

But then dyou play Lowe or RND?

But then dyou play Lowe or RND?

For me, RND. But Lowe is also a top six Championship wing back.
We're very strong in this area when both are fit.

RND brings a lot more physicality, athleticism, competitive edge. If we're in the trenches, he is someone you'd turn to.
Lowe is a tidy player and might have the edge on RND in the final third (although RND was improving on this before his injury), but I think RND can really dominate opponents.

On the other side, Baldock is similar to RND. Great engine, fierce competitor and a leader. I'd have zero qualms in him playing every game until the end of the season provided Berge and Anel were with him and providing the attacking output from wide.

Personally though, I'd lean towards Bogle.
His attacking play is superb. He doesn't run up and down the wing in straight lines, he makes unusual inside runs into the box and causes chaos.
Once up there, he rarely panics. I've said for a while I can't wait to see Anel, Bogle & Berge together in full flight.

So for me,

Bogle - Anel - Egan - Clark - RND

is out strongest looking defence, but Baldock and Lowe don't represent much of a drop off.
I wouldn't want to lose any of the middle three though as our cover is significantly weaker.

Due to injuries, the back 3 picks itself against Huddersfield. Hopefully Clark will now stay injury free and stay in the side, if not then RND can slot back in when fit.

Good summary CM. I'd go with Baldock and RND in the away/ harder fixtures, and Lowe and Bogle in the games where we can reasonably expect have the majority of possession. This keeps all of them pretty fresh and happy that they are getting game time
