Thoughts on the kit?

Given we’ve gone for this look with today’s reveal, shame for Wes’s green shirt today that we’ve not gone for the other of the same design from that season.

That said, thumbs up for the design of them.

The amount of padding in those GK shirts was ridiculous, even the material was slightly padded an the elbow pads were like something a cricket player would wear on his legs.

They'd keep you warm though. Might have a look for one on ebay to wear this winter, it would probably be cheaper than putting the heating on.

Bespoke.... Bespoke... 🧐🧐

Same collar and sleeve cuffs but plain sleeves and broader stripes. Every Errea shirt is bespoke

so nothing like one another then? sound
Well, depends how broad we're using the whole "bespoke" argument. Style? Collar? Stripe width? Shade of red? This is the same template as ours. Same amount of stripes. Different colour. So if we use different colour as bespoke, we don't have a bespoke kit at all.

Heres all Errea kits for the new season. Anyone spot 2 that match? They all look different to me. Bespoke one. Bespoke all. https://www.footballkitarchive.com/errea-2022-23-kits/

i think unique wouldve been better word than bespoke personally in hindsight

I must be insane getting involved in this argument but here we go...

The issue people had with "template" kits is that Adidas would take a shirt they already had, they usually had 3 or 4 per season, and just put different coloured fabric in the various panels that make it up. Now, when you have a shirt made up of 7 or 8 different panels with 3 or 4 collar designs the "template" stands out a mile. Our last premier League kit for example was the same as Sweden's 2020 kit just with different colours. You can spot this by the long cuffs on the sleeve, and the strange way the v neck meets the front panel with a curved hem separating separate shoulder panels.

Now, the reason this errea kit is causing confusion is that it's literally a crew neck t shirt with no unique features at all. So the actual shirt itself cannot really be "bespoke" in the sense that other teams have the same basic fabric pattern as the Lincoln example posted above. It's unique yes, because we obviously have a custom pattern printed on the material but then, we had that with Adidas on a couple of occasions including last season.

So, I personally wouldn't say this is bespoke to be honest.

It goes back to the point about it not being made using Warnock's leftover Sudocrem and Dane Whitehouse's chest hair. Most of these 'bespoke' designs that we've seen this season have some nonsense on them like a city or stadium image.

This is just a simple red & white shirt with black pinstripes. It doesn't really scream '10 months in the making' to me but it's a perfectly fine Sheffield United shirt nonetheless.

I think it probably will meet the dictionary definition for 'bespoke' but it's not what a lot of people were expecting.

im in no position to argue it isnt, there must be something the club believe is bespoke about it to say it themselves
People have slung the definition of bespoke about a few times. Fine. Looking at our shirt, though, what specifics are 'bespoke' to it? It's the same as Blyth Spartans and but for the number of stripes, bang same as Lincoln. United might be able to tell me what exactly is different about it. I'm not a fashion designer so I have no idea. On the face of it, it's far from bespoke.

Yeah, apparently there's a proposed ruling banning stripes on the back.

United did say 'proposed', so I've got a small glimmer of hope that it won't happen, but I'm not optimistic. I won't be spending any money on future home shirts if it happens (for what its worth), and I suspect a few others won't either.
The league are effectively ruling to impact several clubs' identities. Not on that. Will Reading, QPR and Yeovil lose their hoops??
Exactly. Payday loans, were OK, finance and better firms still are. But stripes?! FUCK NO!!

Maybe unique is the right word. But even then, it isn't. People are accepting the broadest definition of bespoke, I think. Surely the second you put an SUFC badge on any shirt, it becomes bespoke to our club?

What the club have done, is over-promise and underdeliver. Maybe through insecurity, knowing they're taking a massive step down in brand image and quality from one of the leading brands - and so they bigged it up as bespoke. It just isn't. 1889 inside the collar doesn't count.

There's no Sheffield or Sheffield United nice little personal touches - customised, personalised etc, etc whatever we want to call it.

It's a basic first offering from a lower rate manufacturer, there's nowt wrong with that as such, just pitch it as that from the outset.

Proof, as if it were needed, that football is run by people who are about as far removed from the game as it's possible to get.

In some countries it'd be a cause of mass boycotts and protests among the fans, but this is Britain, where we just take it up the chuff so as not to "rock the boat".

Two things for me:

How do you see black letters and numbers on a stripey back that includes black pinstripes from a distance?

The Errea logo looks odd white.

Other than that I love it.
Very simple design. I think that is what makes it perfect for Sheff United. It reminds me of an early Le Coq kit we had. Or was it Patrick?

The socks with the Blades on them though, that is "bespoke" enough for me 😆
