The Sty is irrelevant as shown by UEFA going for the more modern up to date BDTBL steeped in history something which was continually mentioned last night which must have grated on the pigs. Its clear the Clubs focus has been on the Euro's the last few weeks off the field which may explain in part the delays in getting the new kit out.

With UEFA overseeing we have seen organisation at BDTBL we have never witnessed before. SAG/SYP, the Council have all applied common sense logic in allowing football fans to enjoy the match day experience with fan parks, fan walks, roads being cordoned off as well as street drinking. The number of stewards looked to have increased many not looking like the youngsters we employ on minimum wage and there were a number of volunteer helpers on show as well. Ticketing has been the domain of a UEFA web site but the Club did provide opportunity for Blades at the outset to get tickets early. When organisations work together football can be an enjoyable experience.

Seems the Club have impressed UEFA with their willingness to adapt such as the pitch being extended, dug outs removed, selling merchandise in the shops and most important of all the numbers of Blades who turned up and supported all the four games. The fact UEFA has sat above and co-ordinated has no doubt influenced and had an impact on the quality of decision making at the Club.

Noticeable there were problems with the toilets and I'm intrigued to know if the catering was unusually efficient, suspect not, so some areas of improvement required. As far as the ground capacity is concerned its adequate for the EFL. Yet if we do get back to the EPL serious consideration has to be given to increasing capacity starting with trying to get our Kev to concede the two areas of unused Land would be better in the Clubs hand than his. Wishful thinking I know.

Have enjoyed the womens football it has raised the profile of the Club world wide. Read that piggies and weep.

Look forward now to the new season for SUFC with fixtures moved to accommodate SAG and SYP's paranoia together with the usual ticket purchasing restrictions for fear of thousands of away fans getting into the Home end. BLUT and Westfield Corner being given permanently to the Wall because they're nawty boys and the usual non communication to fans about changes of this nature. Turn style and ticket problems at the first home game with the bewildered young kids acting as stewards oblivious to whats happening. Dodging the traffic on Shoreham Street as I wait in the queue to get into the Cherry Street end of the Kop. SYP over policing outside the ground treating fans like terrorists, restricting access to drinking and under policing inside the ground.

Maybe just maybe all the local organisations involved with SUFC games sit down and learn some lessons from the Womens Euro's. I'll not hold my breath.

Not such a good write up today from the Daily Telegraphs so called Northern Football Writer - Luke Edwards. A few choice comments from his article in sports section;

"Not good enough to play match at stadium as small as Bramall Lane, which should not have been chosen for fixture of this magnitude"

"Not criticism of Sheffield united, but a costly mistake by F.A. Old Trafford would have been better"

"A let down to play match in Sheffield, to choose a stadium that holds just 32,000 is ludicrous"

"Not enough room for all media at match (including me?)"

One can only conclude that poor Luke missed out, and his media pass was rejected. His article made little or no mention of the actual game, not surprising really. So disappointing and disrespectful.

Thing is HH, eversince it was decided that the Ladies Euros would be played in the UK ourselves and MK Dons and Leigh, were some of the first clubs that said yes we are interested in hosting games, while all the other now moaning mardy arse twats were laughing and saying things like, they will never sell out or get above 10,000 crowds including some of our porcine neighbours.

Another journo from the Telegraph bleating about not getting a seat. As others have said no-one was interested about the Womens Euro's and its been admitted they were struggling to get Clubs to offer their grounds. Those that did should be at the head of the queue next time round. The majority of the media have commented on the atmosphere last night and been complimentary of Sheffield. This no mark needs to put his dummy back in his mouth.

It sounds like another tall story from him, but between them they’ve had thirty years to find a solution and you’ve come up with one for them in less than 24 hours!

This thread got me thinking the last time I brought a newbie to a match was 5yrs ago, before then 2006. 2 in 16 yes is not good enough.
As how can we ever hope to build the business case to return to our 40,000 seater gates if we, the fans, don't introduce the experience to potential new fans?
We're the home of football, so let's have top class services, facilities and behaviours that encourages people to enjoy the experience even on a cold winters day?
If Newton heath can turn a dump of a town into the theatre of dreams, maybe it's up to us all to bring new fans to the reality of the best. Then we can capitalise on our global profile and get the bigger stadium we need.

I think you have summed it up mate spot on. Congrats to all at the Lane super job done . Feel so sorry for the pigs it seems like the whole world is passing them by . Second best again HA HA . Every fan abroad knows SUFC now unlike the piggies. They probably think Sheffield Wednesday is a Bank Holiday.

Reading through some of this corporate lingo infused bullshit is making me fancy a prawn sandwich....

Casual fans are casual fans, if it is difficult to do something that they only have a passing interest in, they won't do it.

I'm not sure where the next generation of fans are going to come from, and how many of today's fans would have ever become fans if they had the restrictions and hoops to jump through that a young kid who's never been before has today.

The one ticket per member bullshit has to stop, it restricts future new memberships and future attendance rather than encouraging it

Takes 5 mins to register. All bar the eldest generations are all over the net so it’s hardly any barrier. You can even do it for them. Anyone wanting to go can!

"Casual fans" can fuck right off, quite frankly.

I posted a video recently from a Bournemouth fan which highlighted why they'll not increase the capacity from 10k.
The main reason cost!
That is the cost per seat v return on the investment is just not worth it.
I agree the Kop is long overdue a complete revamp and especially the removal of those awful posts and upgrade on facilities, but increasing the current capacity isn't viable or necessary.
That's nonsense from the Bournemouth fan! Once the seat is added it will have a lifespan of 100 years.

It's all about the return on investment (ROI) which many companies use when calculating whether something is worth while doing. The payback will be huge. For a seat that brings in revenue of £350 a season (assuming a low 3% inflation) after 50 years this seat would generate £1489 after 100 years £6530. So for a 10,000 capacity increase that's £3.5 million in year one BUT £14.8 million in year 50. Total revenue generated by year 50 will have be an incredible £2 billion.

Yes, I know you have to sell the seats but even half of that would be make the investment worth it. Not sure any directors look 50 years in the future :-)

Yeah sure, whatever
Does that include the additional 10,000 that have started watching us since League One

Or maybe the additional 22,000 that have started watching us since the mid 80's are all casual.

If England hadn't got through to the semi-finals, there would have been 20,000 there at most, whatever ground it was at. That wouldn't look bad at The Lane, but would look terrible at Old Trafford. Think the FA got this one right.....
There was more than 20,000 at The Lane for 2 of the group games so there's a decent chance the semi would have got a good crowd too. There are no tickets available for the semi at MK tonight (although I must admit, I don't know how many were available).

No company will look for a ROI over 50 years. Most office blocks and other buildings are usually about 8 years although depends on interest rates at the time. The calculation is usually around do you invest or do you keep the money in the bank. Answer is usually which ever will give you most back over x amount of time.

Yeah weird innit. Almost as if attendances fluctuate according to on-field success and have fuck all to do with marketing aimed at day trippers.
