Would be great for the city if we got it. But if it’s not London it’ll end up being Manchester; possibly to the fanfare of the new arena opening there.

They were talking about Eurovision on the radio yesterday.
Saying prospective host cities must be near an airport, have an inside venue with a 10K plus capacity and have a large number of hotel rooms.
They said Glasgow and Aberdeen have already announced interest and said the other good contenders would be Cardiff, Manchester, Newcastle and Birmingham but they said Birmigham held it the last time it was in the UK, so that would probably count against them.

One of the radio presenters said the O2 arena in London would be a fantastic venue, so why no mention of London?
The guest said she doubts London would be given it because the BBC want to take it to the smaller cities.
She said giving another large event to London wouldn't go down well politically.
No surprises that no one on the show mentioned Sheffield as a possible venue.
Besides are we close enough to an airport?

Think what you like about the women’s game but our club is getting a lot of positivity out of this. Fair play to the ownership for putting us forward for hosting this.

It always surprises me how biased the national media are.
They used to talk about Wembley as being an old historical stadium
and they love telling all and sundry how England is the birth place of football.

However for some reason they skip over the fact that Bramall Lane is the most historical football stadium in England, with so many football firsts.
Also the national media rarely ever (in fact never) mention that it's Sheffield that is the birth place of football.

We struggle for hotel rooms. People end up in all manner of places when something medium sized is on.

Probably not considered close enough to an airport, Doncaster probably wouldn't count due to low number of flights/destinations and the fact it'll probably be shut down anyway.

Plus there's probably not enough hotels close to the arena.

I've never understood the fuss about Wembley. It's never been nice to look at, particularly functional or especially needed. If you're going to have a national stadium then I would agree that the new version is something close to ideal but I disagree with the idea of a national stadium anyway. Very few countries have them and even those countries don't always use their own.

Wembley didn't find immediate love even amongst English audiences and it only hosted 6 football matches during its first 5 years. The holding company was in liquidation after the Empire Exhibition in 1925 and would've been knocked down had it not been saved by a businessman who introduced greyhound racing.

It didn't become England's proper home until 1951 and even then was second fiddle to the greyhounds, which was still the case in 1966 as Uruguay v France (in England's group) had to be played at White City as the date clashed with the dogs.

The prestige attached to Wembley was really a prestige earned by the annual treat of watching the Cup final on TV, and some second-hand prestige of the Cup final itself.

Sorry to go off topic, I think Wembley is arguably the best example of the London-centric attitude so wanted to add some historical context.

seeing the swedes in person in them 1st 2 group games i knew they were good side . but i hadnt realised looking at the rankings they were best team in europe & 2nd in world. so this going to very tough game tonight. & i think winner comes from tonight semi final

Does part of the blame lie with SCC? There was surely an opportunity to sell this properly historically that they missed out on.

There’s nowhere in ground shut off is there? Not that I can see at least, should be a quality attendance, atmosphere is better than any of our games last season too, get clappers out blades 😂😂😂

All looks open to me (although not noticed if the Kop corner is). Seems like it's filling up nicely.
