CONFIRMED Reda Khadra

I read recently that Patrici, the Spurs DoF likes to identify two or three targets for each position and then start negotiating with all of them, before concluding a deal with one. I’d hope that we’ve also got some negotiations going off for alternatives to Khadra, in case we just can’t do a deal.
In an ideal world yeah I think United just have target a b c etc and work down the list as and when players move elsewhere/not become available

Hertha Berlin after him? A workmate mentioned it this afternoon but can't see anything online to back him up. Anyone heard owt?

I don't think Hertha is the problem with the delay, I think from what we know is that Brighton's contract situation with Khadra could be a problem and/or United agreeing a fee with Brighton if we want to sign him permanently at the end of the loan.

From what we know he’s in the last year of his contract.

Unless there’s a club option for Brighton to extend his contract they literally wouldn’t be able to demand anything and there would be nothing for us to negotiate. He’d be free to sign for whoever - so I’m assuming they do otherwise why not just sell him rather than committing an additional chunk of guaranteed salary to him ?

But if they do I don’t know why they would be desperate for him to sign up again if they could just negotiate in 12 months time… he’s not close to the starting 11 if they are loaning him so it all seems abit strange that it’s his contract holding things up…

If I had to guess - based on nothing but they above - they have a 12month option and the haggling is either over an option (£value) for us to make permanent or % of wages we are paying. Could always be wrong

Get the deal done before we lose out to another club. I appreciate getting the best deal for the club, but I’ve never known a club lose out on as many prospects because of slow negotiation. Khadra visited a week ago, the season is a week away & we want to visit Watford with our team ready.

In fairness, you probably don't pay such close attention to any other clubs.

Man Utd have been publicly failing to get De Jong for about 2 months. Took them about 2 years to negotiate Sancho.

I think that's because De Jong doesn't want to join them.
Indeed, he's a smart guy, and way too good for them.
But transfer "sagas" are a staple of various clubs every summer.

Also, if interest doesn't get leaked, we're unaware of any negotiations. This one just leaked out for some reason - weirdly it seemed intentional this time.

I’m not sure we lose out necessarily. We don’t have a blank cheque book just to blow teams out of the water - so obviously we are cautious. If we had a billionaire willing to bankroll everything I’m sure he’d have made more signings by now.

And think of it from the flip side. Say we are selling max lowe. And we know there are a couple of sides interested - it’s in our interest to negotiate hard, string things along to extract the best deal… Brighton presumably reasonably want to get the best deal and will negotiate for that.

I will say it might be a cause of cutting thier nose off to spite their face if it’s just a loan. Surely it would serve all parties to get it done, get the player in and settled with a pre season. That way they stand the best chance of hitting the ground running and maximising the success of the loan and the players value

I would give out window so far 5/10 and nothing more.

We’ve signed a back up GK who was really already with us anyway, a back up CB in CC IMO he’s come to challenge JLT.

We’ve brough in an excellent prospect in Anel to play the much needed RCB position.

We’ve brought in Doyle who again is an excellent prospect.

BUT with a week and half to go we are still short a MD, CAM and a ST.

At present we are either relying on 2 young players who are not ready, or two players coming back from long term injuries to fill out striking roles.

The problem is this: without further reinforcement I think we could all get 90% of the team guessed for Watford and it would be 90% the same as previous seasons - we just aren’t evoking fast enough for me.

And 2 of the 4 players we have signed will be out injured for a considerable period of time.

Hello again, slow start.

Do you really think Clark is back up for Robinson?

We haven't improved the starting XI. We've added some depth at the back, which is very welcomed after the musical chairs of last season. I do think we're stronger there and hopefully aren't as soft.
But ultimately, we've lost MGW and I don't see where we are making up for those goals.
As you say, we need a CAM and a striker.

I don't think Ndiaye, Jebbison or Osula can be relied upon with their experience levels. McBurnie & Brewster have yet to convince or prove they can stay fit and Sharp is now 36 and coming off the back of a long-term injury.
A lot of weight lands on Berge's shoulders to carry us and he doesn't seem to like that responsibility, talented though he is.

I'm not that comfortable that our left side can provide enough attacking output also.
As an opposition, Ciaran Clark, Max Lowe and John Fleck wouldn't worry me.
Fleck in general needs to find some consistency and take some responsibility for getting us going. Too many of our players disappear if the rest of the team aren't doing well.

Lowe looked good in pre season in my opinion

The EFL Profit and Sustainability rules even make bankrolling a club a massive risk.
If we overspend (basically cheat) then we need to gain instant promotion to the PL.

If we fail to gain promotion then we will face EFL sanctions for effectively trying to cheat other clubs....leading to a large points deduction.

A think back a few year when we were trying to sign Martin Waghorn from Ipswich.
Wasn't the rumour that Ipswich accepted our offer and the player was happy with our offer of £10K a week wages.

He was due to join us....next we hear that Derby County have matched our offer to Ipswich and offered Waghorn £20K a week wages.
Their policy of being over ambitious and gambling beating the competition when chasing potential signings has ended up almost destroying that club.
