I know, hence my comment re: sauce (source) replacement... wasn't supposed to be a jibe.
To be fair, even though I don't like the kid who sent me the text and he shows off that he knows certain folk, he does know those certain folk. So when he says "I was talking to so and so", chances are he probably was.

Brighton are in a strange position.
They have a promising player who is in the final year of his contract and they don't think he's quite PL standard.
However he is very young and developing, similar to Brewster, he could become a top player.
So he's an asset for Brighton with diminishing value that becomes ZERO at the end of the year.

What if he plays brilliantly for us and becomes a £20 million player.
Brighton receive nothing because he's out of contract
Also Khadra becomes a free agent and we might lose him as other clubs offer him higher wages.

Wouldn't surprise me if us and Brighton are setting up a completed transfer clause.
So we have 1st option to sign the player next year based on a set price ensuring Brighton receive a transfer fee for an out of contract player.
It also protects us to prevent another club coming in and offering Khadra massive wages.
Just a question re your last sentence - how is it possible to guard against that happening if he is out of contract ?

To be fair, he's actually stuck his neck out there regarding it being a loan and Brighton pushing for him to sign a new deal. Unfortunate for us really.
Nah I don't think he's got a clue. He didn't mention Khadra or remotely even link him with us until it was already elsewhere.

It's understandable that brighton don't want to lose him for nowt. Hopefully we can sort a deal out cause we could really do with some more creativity in our squad

Bored now, just bloody sign him and whoever the other one is.......

Season starts very soon

If Brighton want to keep him, e.g are offering him a new deal and won't let him out until he signs... then I see this as quite a difficult one to overcome.
I don't think we can afford to buy a player that they want to keep.

I think we'd mostly assumed that Brighton had decided he wasn't up to the PL and were happy to do a deal given he's going into the final year of his contract.

Shows what a bit of creativity in dealing with players can do

Rather than Uniteds approach - Final year of contract, sell him, just get rid and get whatever we can for him

I’d buy that if we’d not just left c15m of transfer spend walk out the door in Freeman and Mousse without so much as a penny back.

Hindsight a couple of mill for either last summer wouldn’t have been the worst idea.

Worth reminding that at 21 he isn't walking anywhere when his contract runs out.

As long as Brighton have offered him a deal by a certain point in time, then they would be due compensation.

That is true, but he can still tell Brighton "fuck off, I'm leaving"

Surprised our resident Brighton fan hasn't stopped by to tell us that Reda is too good for little old Sheffield United.

I’ll give you a chuck out here. They don’t want to keep him, they just don’t want to lose him for next to nothing.

It may be because I'm becoming impatient, but let's just get this over the line before the deal collapses. If it's only a loan, then so be it. If we miss out on promotion, he goes back and for us it's back to the drawing board and we start again. If we somehow get promoted and he's proven to be key towards our success, then who knows, we may be able to buy him and this time next year we could have both Reda and MGW in our permanent ranks........ Ok, the last part may be fictional!

Sensible post mate 👍

I read recently that Patrici, the Spurs DoF likes to identify two or three targets for each position and then start negotiating with all of them, before concluding a deal with one. I’d hope that we’ve also got some negotiations going off for alternatives to Khadra, in case we just can’t do a deal.
