Make of this what you will.

The read it without the “air quotes” which is what Hecky actually said and it’s quite a different message.

SUFC boss says he remains confident a deal to bring in Reda Khadra from Brighton still gets done.

Giddings randomly adds the quotes to change the context. Pricks for clicks.

Even ignoring the (lack of) coherence of this ‘article’ here is proof positive of the chimpanzee: Shakespeare theorem.
Not only did we lose 3-0 @ ‘scunny’ but the “vivacious “ Khadra, who is almost universally described as ‘going missing’ in games & having a ‘questionable’ work rate, is (apparently) going to resolve our defensive failings !?!

Errea +Shield + Bettisssssssss🐍 = ?!?!?

So it is the agreement with between the two clubs holding it up rather than the player, which I guess is good news. I was assuming it is the player keeping his options open that was holding a deal up

Hopefully the deal gets agreed and we get him on board

Hecky sounded quite fed up in the post match interview last night. Not surprising considering the result but I do hope we get a couple of fresh faces in, and get players back from injury soon. It feels like we need a good start to the season this time around.

It's a game of poker, I'd guess he wants to come but Brighton are keeping their options open. Hes got a year left on his contract and there seems to be interest from Germany and other championshi clubs.

Hes not going to play for Brighton but I'd think they would prefer a sale as if they loan him out for another season that's it for them as hes free to sign for whoever he wants. Even if they only get a couple of million for him that's money in the bank.

If we only want to loan him they will be waiting to see if anyone will sign him. In the meantime how long do we give Brighton before we move onto other targets?

Reminds me a little of the drawn-out episode ahead of Henderson's second loan.

These things sometime take time and obstacles need to be navigated around.

I just hope he doesn't disappoint if/when he joins - he is an exciting player and plays a position that is both crucial to Utd's formation & style of play but some seem be basing their view on the player solely on his performance at BDTBL and 1 or 2 clips. He is still very young and by all accounts inconsistent. If he played at the level some think he is at on a consistent basis, he wouldn't be within Utd's reach

Why does it take United so long to do these deals?

It's because we're a well run club giving attention to detail in the contracts.
If we wanted...we could pay extra and accept all the player and agent demands....then the contract is signed very quickly.

I think back to our star player from a few years ago, Kevin McDonald. We were so desperate to sign him that we agreed the clauses demanded by his agent. Then about 3 weeks after signing the player triggered his release clause and he was sold on the cheap to Wolves.

At the time the club came under fire from the fans regards who at the club agreed the stupid clause.
Hopefully we're not so desperate ever again and the signs look like we're more business like doing these deals.

I would imagine the clauses revolve around whether we are promoted or not next season.

Brighton are probably using the logic if Khadra helps us gain promotion then we're in the money, so they want a large bonus paymenrt
even though he would no longer be their player.

The player wants to play at the highest level, so would suspect that they want clauses putting in to cover his career if we fail to gain promotion or Khadra might want a massive bonus if we are promoted.

The real issue causing problems is the massive disparity in finances between Premier League and Championship clubs.
If we gain promotion next season we will become a wealthy club overnight, so other clubs, players, agents see this as an opportunity to put in future clauses based on promotion. It's so tempting for our club to agree any clause based on promotion.

Surely it all depends on what the sticking point actually is…

Obviously we need to negotiate the contract terms properly but If it’s something relatively minor at some point you’d be best off getting him her and getting him acclimated to the team.

Brighton are in a strange position.
They have a promising player who is in the final year of his contract and they don't think he's quite PL standard.
However he is very young and developing, similar to Brewster, he could become a top player.
So he's an asset for Brighton with diminishing value that becomes ZERO at the end of the year.

What if he plays brilliantly for us and becomes a £20 million player.
Brighton receive nothing because he's out of contract
Also Khadra becomes a free agent and we might lose him as other clubs offer him higher wages.

Wouldn't surprise me if us and Brighton are setting up a completed transfer clause.
So we have 1st option to sign the player next year based on a set price ensuring Brighton receive a transfer fee for an out of contract player.
It also protects us to prevent another club coming in and offering Khadra massive wages.

I'm not convinced it takes us any longer than most clubs. The difference being we see rumours from the get go here so feels like things take a while as for other clubs we'll only see things once it hits the national press which is usually as the deal is pretty much done.
