At the very worst , this lad would be a great impact sub in games where we need something different and I have to go back as far as Paul Peschisolido to remember us having one of those .

However , I think he has the potential to be much more than that . In the one season that MGW was with us , we turned him into a far more accomplished and effective player than the one who joined us and I have little doubt that we can do the same with this guy .

If we do manage to sign him , I’ll be absolutely delighted .

For years we have been crying out for a bit of pace, someone who can stretch the opposition defence, take a man on, drive forward, get to the byline...etc, etc.....so we don't always go for the overload and end up going backwards and recycling.

We are hopefully in a strong position to sign someone who can possibly do this and we are already writing him off as the next Paul Devlin or JCR....🤦‍♂️

Indeed, we've barely had any pace for years....

And Devlin was a hell of a lot better than some clearly remember.

I'd take someone with Paul Devlin's quality any day of the week! JCR less so but he was about 31 when we signed him. Signing Dev was a great bit of business by Steve Thompson, I think he also bought Chris Wilder back although he didn't play much.

Devlin on his day could be a fantastic player. He was inconsistent but then many flair players are. He was a throwback to the old style chalk on the boots winger and he had a temper which helped his game when he had been booted into the air a few times early doors and then he would go on a mission to take the piss out of the full back that had kicked him. I remember Devlin playing v PNE at the Lane around Xmas time and he was sensational. I would be delighted if Khedra was similar to Devlin.

Devlin could be a mardy fucker though and he tarnished his reputation with us when he basically downed tools to force a move to get away to Brum. Very unprofessional and he lost a lot of respect from the crowd (and me) for that. He disrespected the Unitedites and I think he has acknowledged that and said I could have managed it all a lot better in the interview that Hal had with him recently. He's obviously grown up and reflects on what he did, but as a player he could shine when he wanted to.

We were desperately poor at Blackburn,i think i could have run us ragged and i’m 71 with bloody arthritis.I think our expectations are unrealistic.
See i remember watching that game and fearing the worst. My recollection of the game was one of the worst games in recent times. Certainly at Championship level... but... a few pages back, there's extended highlights from the game and we actually had loads of chances and played some great stuff. The manner of the goals conceded were absolutely awful though

Love the way Khadra looks to beat his man and get the ball over early. If he were to sign Brewster and Sharp will have an absolute field day.
Exactly, and add to that, imagine how effective he would be with how we press teams :p

He was the most exciting player I saw last season (opposition player, because MGW was better than everyone)

Probably helped that we dicked Fulham on aggregate like.

If we pull of a deal with permie option I’ll be chuffed to bits. Said to my mates after the Blackburn home game wish we had someone with his pace who could really skin a man.

It is very dangerous to pursue a player with such vigour and intensity just because your own team couldn’t handle his trickery,is it possible that he was very effective because we defended poorly. He wouldn’t be the first player bought because he played well against us,but never really lived up to expectations……i hope he isn’t the new Paul Devlin !!
Steve Kabba worked out ok

Maybe wouldn't be as impactful as he seems to flourish on counter attacks with his pace and 1 on 1s. If teams sit back then his pace would be nullified and would have to take on 4 players

Like I said yesterday. No way are there 80 better wide players in the country than Khadra. He’s got rare ability
So…..
For arguments sake….
If every team has 1 “wide player” ( (which they don’t) that would mean he could be Newport’s (79th in the League pyramid) best ‘wide player’ - would we be getting giddy about signing Robbie Wilmott
🤔😉

I'm saying every PL team has at least 4 "wide players" on their books. That includes wide forwards, wing backs, midfielders, wingers etc

By that criteria I’d suggest that there ARE (far) more than 80 better (wide) players - essentially the 1st team picks in those positions for each Premier team - let alone the reserve / back -ups + some 1st picks in ‘lower’ leagues ( but not Robbie Willmott !)

& Khedra doesn’t appear to rated as being top 4 / 1st pick in any of those (numerous) positions for BHA

Things to note.

1. He plays both sides
2. Can certainly cross a ball
3. Nippy, though not lightening
4. Stocky and low centre of gravity
5. Right footed but more than able to kick it with his left
6. Draws fouls easily…ie knows how to win a free kick.

From that, we have to look at where he fits in here based on how we played last season. And based on that he needs an advanced role up the pitch in space to receive the ball on the half turn to feet. Midfield where he’s expected to do some defensive work won’t work.
So it’s either in the 10- link between midfield and attack so he can drift to wherever the ball is and make it harder to mark him…the infamous “Duffy” role…or it’s the bench for when teams are sitting in and inviting us on. He may even just be competition for Nidye unless he’s playing more as a striker. I see them as similar players.

We could however look at a system change and play with a front 3
5-2-3 without the ball, 3-4-3 with the ball.
2 central midfielders always sitting fairly tight in the middle and letting the wing backs create the width.
Suppose we shall see, but if we get him and keep Berge we have some very good depth in midfield and wide areas.

Just remain a little light on the striker front with the injuries we are carrying. I might be alone in wishing we’d offered Didsy another year just in case and assured him a good loan or free transfer if he’s not getting game time by January. Would also have given McB and Sharp some breathing space to get fit at the right speed, and also taken some of the pressure off Jebbo and Asula.

Very true mate. However, when the oppo has a goal kick and plays it short, we tend to hunt in packs and the midfield are always involved if it looks like working.

Has he signed yet? We do love to drag things out.
