This lad should have been put straight into attack alongside Ched as soon as he joined IMO.
I'm very surprised he's had as little game time as he's had so far. We all know what Cresswell can do and it's not very effective in the majority of games he plays. I'd like to see Hoskins get a good run alongside Ched.

Agree with you, although we must make sure that we've got enough height to cope at set pieces at least. When was the last time we used two "small" strikers (i.e. no target man) for a period of time?

Agreed 100%. He scored with his first touch v Wycombe, then we haven't seen him since.

Wilson taking a page out of the Blackwell book of loan players.

Make a big deal trying to bring a player in then barely play them at all.

Im sure he will be used at some point.
I think he was brought in in-case Ched ends up doing bird?

Think DW must see him as more of an impact player......?

What is it with Cresswell? Under Blackwel, Speed, Adams and now Wilson he seeems almost undroppable?

Paul Walker tweeted yesterday that "Hoskins is close to making his first start for the club" according to Danny Wilson. Make of that what you will.

I'd like to think that means he's starting on Saturday

I would have thought he'll start either Saturday or Tuesday. I'd like to see a bit of flexibility and a 4-3-3 but I know Danny's wedded to his 4-4-2 with a target man approach!

We need to be careful if he scores to many goals we might get promoted and we don't want that do we.

Don't forget prior to signing he'd not so long since recovered from a bad injury, like Beattie maybe Wilson wasn't confident in Hoskins being fully fit. Also Hoskins tweeted a few times last week about being ill or about being on the mend from being ill. Which suggests he may also have not been 100% in himself to start as well.

The last time I can remember it happenening was away at Leeds in the 2005-6 promotion season. Webber came on in place of Shipperley during the second half when we were a goal down, so our strikeres were Webber and Kabba. We managed to get the equaliser. Kabba scored it and I think Webber was involved in the build up, although not sure about the last bit.

Although that was for a period of time, it wasn't a very long period!

This seems reasonable, or perhaps he just hasn't shown much in training? Last couple of times I've seen him, he looks like a graduate of what my dad would call "The David White School of Ball Control"! That said, when someone chucked into a game with five minutes to go it's a bit much to expect their A Game straight away.

Cresswell work hard, his parnership with Ched is working well

Hoskins and Ched are similar strikers so not sure if would work as a front pair in my opinion

Like Beattie and Evans didn't work against Scunny

Adrian Heath played Ian Rush and Dean Saunders up front a couple of times.

Hoskins and Evans got a goal each against Wycombe when they played together for about 25 minutes.

I think this is Danny Wilson's thinking as well. But he must continuously keep monitoring the situation and assess if there's a combination that could give us a little bit more. It's been ten games since Cressy's last goal and our form is declining, just picking those two by default isn't always a good idea. When Beattie was brought in it seemed to give Cresswell a little lift and maybe dropping him again will do the same.

Cresswell's best game recently has been widely recognised as Scunthorpe, when he started on the bench. Maybe that's what he needs more regularly? Particularly as we're in the middle of a run of 8 games in 24 days and Cresswell is 34.

Windass and Kabba (both 5'10") in 2002/2003 was probably the last time we had a successful partnership like that.
Even under "footballing" managers like Porterfield, Kendall, Spackman, Robson, Speed and Wilson we've always used a target man.

Keith Edwards was only 5'7ish and unless I am dreaming Bob Hatton was only around 5'10 and that was the partnership that got us to promotion in 1981-82.

The signing seems to be cover for Ched if anything happens, he misses games during trial and/or goes down. Wilson does need to be careful not to frustrate him. There are several occassions when he should have brought him on.

I'd like to see him given a start. Either tomorrow or Tuesday.

We played Webber and Lupoli up top against the Pigs at home a few season. Horrible game where we got deservedly beat. Blackwell still insisted playing hoof despite our strikers being small and lightweight. Not sure how big Lupoli was, but he was slight and far from a target man. Certainly not a successful partnership!

I know the word 'unbelievable' gets somewhat overused, but the tactics used in that game were literally unbelievable. To this day I feel that game cost us automatic promotion.
