Brighton spunked millions on shite too. They spent as much on Jahanbakhsh as we did on McBurnie for less return. £14m on Izquierdo, £15m on Locadia etc. These are every bit as bad as our signings of Mousset, Freeman etc.

The difference is that they have richer owners and survived at the top level for longer, so they can afford to be hit and miss. Their wage bill being a twice as big as ours probably didn't hurt either.

And as we know from the Maupay deal, happy to pay an agent an extra £300k at the last minute because he feels like it.

Remember Kieran Maguire doing a piece on them in relation to us. They certainly gambled a lot more than us and paid the wages. Think their wage bill was almost double ours (and Norwich's) and they were probably the 3rd lowest in the division at the time. The conclusion was they probably gambled a bit too much and us not nearly enough - which is a bit mental when it felt like we were spending more money than we ever have done.

Think the only harsh one there is Izquierdo, he was a real talent but got injured like a mother fucker

A lot of transfers fail, at all clubs. Pretty sure all those three had just had very tempting seasons (from memory all in Dutch League).

Incidentally he'll be out of contract at the end of the season. If we get promoted we can pick him up for 'nothing'; it would make us feel better about McBurnie and the 20m we spent on him walking for nothing!

Also pay huge wages for a club of their size.

After how many seasons in the Premier League in a row do you stop thinking about them as playing out of greyhound stadiums and Kent, and start thinking about them as an established top flight club? It's clearly not six, so if not, how many?

I'd like Brighton if we didn't have that tosser that frequently comes on here to remind us how great Maupay is over McBurnie.

Interesting that for Brightons mixed recruitment in an attacking sense - and they have had some hits. Gross etc

Their recruitment at the back has been terrific seemingly.

Duffy
Bissuma
Burn
Webster
Lamptey
Cucurella
Thier keeper seems pretty good also.

Definitely helps to have an owner who can take chances / isn’t bothered about the misses

They signed players who barely played for them, whose names I can’t even remember now. Spent huge amounts under Hughton on foreign players who weren’t suitable. There was a big improvement when Dan Ashworth became DoF, but he’s now at Newcastle.

Bloom’s done a fantastic job, getting them into the new stadium (plenty of Brighton wankers didn’t want the club to be near Brighton, the same types who kept objecting to any plans to redevelop the old west pier, until it collapsed) and into the PL but he’s spent serious money in doing so. I doubt he cares because he can afford it.

And, Withdean was an athletics track, not greyhounds, I lived next door to the fucker.

Peter O'Rourke is usually a very good source.

Also sounds like it will be a permanent given he's in the final year of his contract.

I hadn't appreciated he's only 21 and that last year was his first in senior football.
This mitigates a lot of my concerns about his inconsistencies and decision making.

All things considered, I think he'd be a very astute signing with - potentially - a lot of upside.

Is O’Rourke the footy insider?

He’s got bags of potential, torn us apart twice

Wer'st brass coming from?

Am I being a moron if I say I'm more excited about this signing than any for a long time ? Especially if permanent
Not at all we all have an opinion say what you like. I'm in the same opinion very interesting signing if the fax machine is working and he got on the right train 👍👍👍😲
