That is a legacy of Wilder.

Have to agree with that. We were overly system based by the end. It had to go wide and then we had to work triangles to find an opening. Nobody had the confidence to take it on themselves, or attack through the middle, or have a shot from outside the box.

Don't get me wrong, it was obviously great when it was great under Wilder and I loved the camaraderie and trust the players had in each other's games. But it was also so much fun to watch a one man wrecking ball like MGW come in and offer something completely different. We've not had a player like him since I've been watching.

Just a reminder that the guy has played less than 30 first team games in his entire career. I think data analysis can be useful but it becomes less useful the smaller the sample size. This is a case where we're chasing the lad based on his potential and the fact that he has impressed the scouts of some top teams (BVB, Man Utd, Brighton). We'd be hoping he has a breakthrough season in the way MGW did--he hasn't had that sort of a season yet.

Lad is a game changer and can beat players in the championship with ease, but is very inconsistent and doesn't seem that much of a team player. Reminds me a bit of a smaller Paul Ifill.

It wouldn't be a surprise if he hasn't matured as Brighton had hoped and they'll have doubts now as to if he ever will make the level they thought he would.
Selling him now for a reduced amount rather than letting him go out of contract makes sense particularly if they include add ons or a buy back clause as it removes their risk as well as liability.
He's clearly not the finished article, so if he comes I wouldn't expect him to be starting and he certainly isn't one of the AAA loans I'm still hopeful of come the end of August.

Any update on this signing? Happening? Fax machine issues? Skint?

He delivered in spades in our promotion season.
I don't remember the numbers but possibly double figures on goals & assists?
Great signing by Warnock. Similar in that he'd turned us inside out for Millwall every time we'd played them.

Am I missing something? Because that makes him look absolutely rubbish from where I'm sitting.
Probably says more about the graphic than him though. These modern day analysis tools are a load of shite imo.

honestly mate I have no comment on it, I saw on it on twitter and thought it would get us back on topic and it worked

stats don’t always show the full picture and modern day fans lean way too heavily on shit like futmob ratings, prefer the eye test, and vs us it suggested there’s potentially a very good player in there

He did indeed. He always used to destroy us playing for Millwall.

I see him and Khadra as similar ish players, they look quite chunky but are deceptively nippy, can beat players with ease but can be inconsistent and are not great defensively. On their day they are true match winners and can score and create out of nothing

I agree.
After the home match, myself and mates who I go with came away saying he was the best opposition player we'd seen at the lane this season, even taking in to account he missed a penalty!
It was pretty much Khadra v Utd.
In a better team (not meaning any disrespect to Blackburn), he could definitely flourish.

Furthermore, I think Hecky and the coaching staff will relish trying to turn an inconsistent player into someone who can perform regularly for us. If the ability is in there, I think they'll back themselves to unlock it, and get it to fit into our system.

I have a bit of an Andy Reid feel about Khadra. I was thinking who he reminded me of, Low centre of gravity.

Either him or the lad that used to play for Walsall and Bolton that we always got linked with. He should have played higher really but was only 5’3” and I think that impeded him. Erhun Ozthumer.

He’s 31 now, plays for Adana Demirspor who finished 9th in the Turkish top flight and boast a certain Super Mario and also Britt Assombalonga.

Can't believe Britt Assombalonga is playing over in Turkey.

Also Adana is the home of the Adana kebab which is the good of the gods

Aren’t Brighton’s finances absolutely shambolic?
Can't say I've looked at them. But not heard anything bad either. Thought Tony Bloom just bankrolled them, to put it simply.

Worth having a look into that team plenty of familiar faces, right off collection. It’s like they started a game of championship manager and just signed all the free transfers

He is 29, I thought he was into his 30's.

Worse things to do. I still wistfully look at Transfermarkt freebies to think what might have been.

I know 'frees' don't get paid in chocolate buttons and probably want a signing on fee, but not 10m or 17m etc that we spaffed in fees, trying to crowbar the supposed best of the Championship from their clubs.

Even at this late stage you could pick up some bargains if we'd made the PL:

G: Thomas Dtrakosha (ex Lazio)
DR: Serge Aurier (ex Spurs)
CB: Chancel Mbemba (ex Newcastle)
CB: Jason Denayer (ex City, Celtic)
DM: Florian Grillitsch (ex Hoffenheim, targeted as alternative to Berge)
RW: Adnan Januzaj (ex Man U)
AM/CF: Jordan Larsson (ex Spartak, Henrik's son)

Could have had a real Champ manager go at that lot. Maybe it's for the best!

I think the point is that they're not as much well run as they have a rich owner who is owed hundreds of millions by the club.

They do use the transfer market well, but they do do tend to pay a lot for players

I can't say I can ever recall Brighton buying a player that's made me go "what the fuck"

I see your point, but he's not going to ask for the money back. He's a benefactor. Which is what most clubs need in reality.

Also it is well run, because the scouting, training ground etc is top drawer. New stadium and what not too, all came from this era of ownership.

Brighton spunked millions on shite too. They spent as much on Jahanbakhsh as we did on McBurnie for less return. £14m on Izquierdo, £15m on Locadia etc. These are every bit as bad as our signings of Mousset, Freeman etc.

The difference is that they have richer owners and survived at the top level for longer, so they can afford to be hit and miss. Their wage bill being twice as big as ours probably didn't hurt either.
