Ok thats the fixture we really wanted to get out of the way. Not going to waste any emotion on it. We are still in the box seat with a very promising month coming up. Leave the hysterical 'city is ours' crap to the fans of team who are still 2 points behind us and two more games played - I know whose position I'd rather be in. Just stay professional and focused for the main prize. Still very confident.

We have to move on.

Although start with Monty again mid week and Wilson will be getting it in the neck from many.

Has to be Flynn Willo/Macca Doyle and Hoskins or Quinn.

Megson's Wednesday remind me of a limited version of Warnock's United. Organised with lots of huff and puff but no real quality or finesse. Fair play to them, but I fancied this would happen.

They're better suited to games like this than us (as we used to be) and I think they'll battle their way to the Play Off Final. Think they'll lose the big game though as on neutral territory, on a big pitch they'll get found out by Huddersfield or MK Dons ala us under Warnock.

We weren't great today without our talisman McDonald. Does anyone know when he's back?

RS said he just missed out he had a late fitness test.

So if its not that bad fingers crossed Macca will be back mid-week.

At least we got through it with no serious injuries - which was my main concern. Hopefully the players will share the fan's apathy towards this defeat and get back to normal midweek.

Willo might be slightly injured though.

Although they didn't have JJ today to help elbow people in the face.

Couldn't agree more with the sentiment of this thread, yes of course it's disappointing to lose (let them have their moment of glory) but let's get back to winning ways midweek and our glory will come at the end of the season.

UTB

Proof, if we ever needed it, it's automatic or nothing. And it's in our own hands. Let's go and fucking do it.

Wasn't our day, it's three points dropped, we didn't play well, let's look forward, it's in our hands.

A midweek game is the best thing for us, no time to stew over this result and hopefully we can finally get a win over Scunny!

As an aside, I'd really like to see Hoskins get a start.

We lost, fuck it, We weren't at the races today and Wednesday are still shit. We're still above them in the league and we've still got 2 games in hand.

Let them enjoy their victory and we'll concentrate on promotion. Like I said before the game, I'll happily lose to Wednesday and get promoted instead.

we may have been poor today in the 2nd half but were they really much better?

Agree with everything said above, lets move on. Listening to it once Willos free kick didn't go I knew it wouldn't be our day. Another inch lower they down and out and we go on and win. At least Smegson won't get sacked yet giving him plenty of time to screw up even more

To be fair they sounded wank and their goal surprised me to be honest.

The game seemed like it was heading for a dull 0-0.

Thought we'd lose today, made a few quid on it. Always saw Scunny as the bigger game in terms of defining the season as it would be the will we bounce back game.

Beat them and I think we'll be ok for auto and as far as it's possible, the derby defeat will fade quite quickly. Lose or draw and there is a good chance pigs and others will gain momentum as we lose ours.

Their goal was the only bit of quality in the 2nd half. Its the first time i've seen us panic (if thats the right word) and hit long.

Fully agree. It wasn't our day, the final penalty appeal was a stonewall and willo was so unlucky with bar. Pigs looked poor but got the break. Ok we move on as do 15000 of their fans next Saturday.

That doesn't alter the fact that they beat us and we have let slip an opportunity to open up an 8 point gap over them, a 7 point gap over Huddersfield and MK Dons, and gain a great psychological boost.

Not only was this a Sheffield derby, it was a promotion 6 pointer. A win would have been worth far more than just the 3 points to us, and defeat for them could well have seen their season fall apart completely, but yet again we have blown a 'big one'.

They can be the worst football team in the country for all I care. We can pour scorn on the type of football they play all we like. That does not make me feel any better. The fact remains that they won and we lost.

Sometimes I wish I had no interest in football and had never ever heard of Sheffield United, then maybe I could enjoy most of my weekends!

Maybe I'll feel better in the morning, but I doubt it.

Yeah, it's out of the way, time to kick on.

That team will beat most teams in this division. Monty included.

We have already have beaten most teams in the division, but we haven't beaten Wednesday and we have far from secured our promotion out of this league. It's bad enough losing to Wednesday at any time, but when they are your promotion rivals it makes it worse.

We could have knocked them out of the race for an automatic spot today and left ourselves with one less team to worry about. But in true United style we didn't.

Win our games in hand and thats an 8 point gap. I would say that'll put them out of the race for an automatic spot. Yes we've got to win them first but they're 2 games that we SHOULD win. It's still very much in our hands.

Great attitude you guys...and although it takes our lot closer to the title, it also means Hudds have a chance of auto's so keep the faith as we've got used to sharing the penthouse with you.

ps. Blip over.

Yes we should win against Scunthorpe and hopefully we will win against them on Wednesday, Huddersfield will drop points against Stevenage and all will look rosey again. However I'm sure we don't need reminding that we 'should' have beaten Scunthorpe in virtually every game we've ever played them, but haven't done so. And there is now more pressure on that game than there ought to be.

The Stevenage we played yesterday were not the Stevenage that beat us at their place. No pace at the back, lazy midfield...only 5 great saves from their keeper and BWP missing 3 sitters saved them total humiliation. I've seen Hudds and think they will now out muscle Stevenage.

Although Stevenage may be a different proposition at home maybe? (says he hopefully grasping at straws...)

Lets not forget they were fighting for megson's job and if he went the new man would want rid of some of his players. If they had lost today they would have imploded.
DW just has to get the team back on track against scunny and get those three points win the games in hand and we are in with a good chance.

I thought a draw would have been fair. Even tho we lost I've felt worse leaving their ground after losing. It's still in our hands.

Not sure about the stone wall pen mentioned earlier, I'd need to see it again. I thought we looked in control and created the better chances in the first half. We even had two decent chances at the death. They had a lot of pressure without creating much that concerned me but once they scored we seemed to lose our way a bit.

Fair play to them for filling the ground and creating a good atmos. They love coming out en masse at the hint of anything good happening. I wish we did that a bit more. We've won more games than I care to remember but still there is little sense of achievement around our fans sometimes (especially at home) we need to remember we are doing well and are in control of our destiny. Back them and we'll be okay.
