Levelling up, more footballers in employment at this club, than before the pandemic, looking to future.

Spin, spin, spin.
Creating a pathway does sound like a justification for not recruiting.

Part of the issue soon will be the demographic of the squad.

23 and below - 6
24-27 - 5
28 and above - 11

This is those listed on Transfermarkt minus those out of contract so no Osula but adding him, Peck, Arblaster etc is only going to strengthen the point I'm making.

Half the squad are peaking or on the way down.

A quarter are young pups.

Then the issue is the middle 5 are Lowe (likely to be sold), Berge (could well be sold), Burke (happy to sell), Eastwood (happy to let go), leaving just Osborn as player with some development left in him who isn't still learning the game.

You're either trying to milk the last of the older ones or hoping the young ones step up beyond expectations.

It's not a well balanced squad. It's a last chance saloon squad / look to the future squad.

Hope so,
But the clue is in the stories already being bandied about by the press. The £35 million release clause will be forgotten about if there is an "acceptable" offer.

That looks like Same old United to me.

If there is interest in Berge then the £35 million clause should be stuck to even more rigidly.

If there isn't interest in him then the club should say nothing instead of weakly negotiating downwards to try to generate interest and manufacture a sale of any description
There's no way we're getting £35m for Sander. He's had lengthy injuries and some intermittent form. But he is an excellent player when fit and firing, so £20m (money back or near enough) feels more realistic.

If we reject bids over £20m we probably upset the player and inhibit our own ability to bring other players in.

We apparently paid £22m for Berge
I would expect at the very least that we would want to recover our initial outlay

Wow, well when you put it like that 😱

I didn't realise that it was quite that bad..!
