Betti's is becoming all talk again we are missing out on quality and it's our rivals who are improving
Could it just be;" Sheffield United interested in you".
" Erm; no I'll wait"
Are we a team or club that just doesn't have the pull amongst professional footballers. We always seem to miss a fair amount of our targets ( allegedly).
Same in any business if it ain't got the factor, targets missed.
Just a thought.

Yes,with hindsight,we'd have been better keeping Gary Madine,he was a handful for defenders and scored goa

Exactly.it was pointed out that we are favourites for promotion and pay more wages than 80% of other championship clubs,so why are we having difficulty attracting good players?

It's pretty much always felt like when we sign someone they've been the "2nd/3rd choice". Is it down to wages or a whole bunch of things..?

Don't get me wrong, there's been exceptions to this but on the whole, we always appear to miss out on targets.

It’s just about the pay check. Who offers the most gets the player. It works like that in 95% of all transfers. We have owners who do not invest a lot in squad improvement. Growth has to come from within is their strategy. Frustrating but it is what is. Not expecting any high profile signings. We’ll go with what we have plus some players on the cheap.

Sheffield is unfashionable. Hardly a great pull for a player. I don't think we throw cash at players or agents either, like some. They're also likely to be very unimpressed by our state of the art (circa 1993) training centre if they come for a look around.

Why is Sheffield unfashionable ?

While it was always going to be difficult to be thrown into the team and make an impact last season, I personally thought both Jebbison and Osula looked miles away from being good enough for a side aiming to be promoted from the Champ.
Whether either ever reach that level (or beyond it) remains to be seen but I think both would be better off going to L1 clubs next season to get some more game time and goals that playing bit parts for Utd.
Utd will certainly need one more quality addition up front if they're going to compete.

Sheffield is Geographically isolated, no air port, crap rail links to London and Manchester and everyone who goes past on the M1 only sees the east end and assumes it’s all like that.

….despite all that if we had real Saudi money we would still be able to attract players.. footballers like money…unfortunately we don’t have any.

I've been shopping up in Leeds a couple of times recently, only a 55 min drive from where I live (Bawtry area).

I've grown up with Sheffield. Direct (but slow) trains from Retford. Meadowhall for shopping, Cineworld and obviously Sheff Utd... It's probably a 40/45 min drive from mine.
As a young adult, Sheffield was always the go-to spot for a 'big' night out.

Must say though, Leeds is streets ahead of Sheffield. Loads of easily accessible and cheap city centre parking and piles of really decent shops all within very close proximity. If you're a young person with lots of money then all of the shops (Louis Vuitton, Harvey Nichols, Gucci etc.) are there. But so is everything in between that & your standard high street stuff. It's great.
For drinking also, it offers far more than Sheff (unless you're a middle aged real enthusiast).

Sheffield is unfashionable for good reason...
as much as I do love it.

They better get their finger out their arses because it'll be sh!t or bust this season regarding promotion.

But surely they'll now see the meadowhall roof lit up in rainbow colours and think.... "I'll have some of that" ??

As an expat (Sussex for 30 years) I can tell you that's the classic Sheffielder's view of how people see Sheffield. It might have been true in the 90s, these days plenty of outsiders see Sheffield as a cool, friendly and quite bohemian city, a hub of decent music and nightlife, and a great but affordable place for spending your student years. Also featuring a likeable accent!

I think most Blades would accept that the window hasn't been open long and shouldn't expect a rush of signings. We have never really done that. It is just our history and and our very poor record over many years of doing exactly the same and end up with players who nobody else really fancies. It is the feeling that the same is happening. In addition it seems the club are making it clear we will accept a reduced fee for Berge so the feeling is we may need to sell before we can buy. Will we sell Baldock? Again, it is in our DNA to do this. It can work in many ways, after all we got Didzy when no one else wanted him and look how that turned out. An the other end of the spectrum we bought McBurnie and were panicked in to buying Brewster when other targets went elsewhere and neither has delivered value for money - yet! I just think that if we genuinely are wanting a team for a promotion bid we need to make out intentions pretty clear before too long.

Not sure even the ale thing rings true anymore. We were ahead of everyone else but have let them all catch up and probably overtake us.

The one thing people point out about the Sheffield is closeness to the Peaks and yet Most cities can boast 'close to nice things'

And even though the window is open!5 most contracts run until June 30th? So a player who played for another club last season can't officially join you anyway.

Transfer window closes when this year? 1st September. Plenty of time.

Think a lot of the movement so far are deals that have probably been lined up for months in one way or another by clubs who've long known exactly where they were going to be playing next season and planned accordingly. Also if as rumoured, our transfer budget is largely determined by who goes out the door, while it is has the upside of being a bit more sensible financially, it has the downside of leaving us at the mercy of the transfer window as a whole and the familiar debate as to whether we should have done a mccabe or not.

Yes,
We all work in different fields and there are certain companies we wouldn't be seen dead working for.

However, in football this doesn't apply, the only thing that matters is money.

We've worked hard to be portrayed as that scrubby club that scrubs along with scrubby players who have to work harder than most because of their lack of ability.
