I was fascinated when I saw this too.

£26 for a Man City season ticket (£42 for Man United - they were still hard to get hold of even then)

Am I missing something? Where was the financial incentive to buy a season ticket in those days? We were hardly ever half full let alone in danger of selling out.
At £1.50 per game for 23 games it would cost £34.5 to stand and £50.60 to sit. Season ticket £51.

Prince out.

It's noticeable how little difference there was across all 4 divisions. The inflation (based on our pricing change of £2.20 to £32) is approx 7% per year.

ps the writer of that original document didn't know their league tables. 81/82 Leicester weren't top flight, 82/83 Leeds weren't top flight. I'm just being picky as I'm sure that doesn't cast doubt on the accuracy of the numbers.

We weren’t Div 3 either, in 1982, we were winning Div 4!

The season ticket price is the standing season ticket I think, so buying one got you about a third off the price if you'd paid for every game. Not much different to now.

For context, that £1.50 equates to £4.32 in current prices, adjusting for inflation and the £51 is £146 in current prices.
Further proof of how income has had to increase to enable players salaries and agents fees etc to be afforded and this does not take account of the massive income from TV.

Current cheapest season ticket is £402 so the price of watching United has increased in real terms by about 160% in the last forty years.

I bet with a season ticket it’s cheaper to watch us now than it was then, allowing for inflation.
Nope. It's at least twice as more expensive in real terms. Adjusted fir inflation the 1982 £51 season ticket would now cost less than £200.

Just thought the very same thing! Miss a game and you lose money.
