I agree with all of that too. Forest are very much like Wednesday in that when they're in the Prem they see themselves as part of the elite, but in the 21st century neither, until Sunday, have graced the top flight. By rights they are a PL club by size, but so are we. The difference is the likes of Forest and Wednesday see it as "where they belong", without realising that as Chris Wilder and Dave Bassett have also said, you've no right to be in the PL, it's only on merit.Maybe not nothing, but they were by no means a heavyweight or even middleweight. The whole Forest illusion is post Clough. That is the vast majority of their history we are talking about, in which they were nothing special to say the least. This is best illustrated in their lack of FA Cup successes when that was the big prize. The notion that they are "back where they belong" is laughable.
Forest's attendances for a club with a much smaller neighbour aren't that impressive imo. They are a club that was lucky to have the greatest manager of all time. Before and after that event they were pretty non descript.
What's sad though is that in the past teams like Forest and Derby, United too, were able to compete at the top of the First Division without huge money, now with Leicester's season as an exception, that dream is gone.
