The official site doesn't appear to have mentioned it, and I can't see mention on here, but Andy Taylor played yesterday's reserve match vs Donny Rovers.

Obviously it'll be a few weeks till he's built up match fitness if everything goes to plan. But assuming he becomes available for selection in January, do we really need to bring in Williams? DW clearly wants him, but wouldn't it make more sense to see how Lecs does till Jan, try Taylor out if he's fit in January (the Salisbury match would be ideal if that isn't too soon), and then make a decision nearer deadline day?

From all the comments from DW I've read re: Williams, it sounds like he'll move quickly to bring him in early next month. Given the scarcity of cash, and improved options at left back, I think this would be a mistake. Taylor, if he recovers fully, would be absolutely fine at this level - I reckon he'd be a huge improvement on both Lecs & Williams. Worth not rushing this one...

Do we need him or Williams can we just get a new left back altogether?

I dont like Williams , sorry think hes inadequate, rather have LJF

If we are hanging our hat on Andy Taylor then heaven help us!!!
Andy Taylor was never good enough when fully match fit and he's been out for about a year!
You couldn't make a decent left back out of the three of them!

LJF looked ok going forward but his defensive qualities are woeful!!!
Williams looks ok going forward but gets caught out too many times!!
Andy Taylor - words fail me!

Andy Taylor will be absolutely fine in this league under a football playing manager like Wilson. You have to remember he has played at this level before and was obviously impressive enough for us to buy him!

Sorry Fiery got to agree with TopBoy on this.
Best defender at this level is AT, although he would probably not be good enough in the Championship. Williams and LJF would definately not.

So was Chris Porter- Enough said !!!

Not really a great defence of Taylor that we thought Nosworthy was worth getting in on loan twice!

He can deliver a good cross sometimes when he does get forward but that usually is over shadowed by a shocking lack of pace.

I hope he can still perform at this level but I can't say I am confident about his return.

Given they played completely different positions, the fact Nosworthy was brought in twice has absolutely nothing to do with Taylor.

Pace-wise, I don't think he's much slower than the other three he'd likely feature alongside. Taylor, for me, got a lot of undeserved stick whenever he played. Kallio and Jordan were supposed to be much better - they weren't. He has played well for us in a number of games in the Championship, so there is every chance he'll be fine in League 1 post-rehab. Collins didn't have any games for us last season where he looked at all steady - this gives me every hope that Taylor would do well for us when he returns.

you could have ashley cole at left back and he'd still look poor.. it is more to do with quinny and his lack of positional discipline that makes them look bad

Spot on that. Quinn is good at going forward but wont fight back

And yet anyone reading the above comments will think he's another Maldini.

Fiery, you're dead right mate, all 3 are crap, simple as. Signing Williams would be adding insult to injury.

Andy Taylor is a better player than many have him down as, certainly technique wise.

I think given games to get up to speed, he'll be absolutely fine in this league, the only concern is he isn't quick and would be coming into a side still lacking pace.

"should be absolutely fine in this league.....isn't quick but nobody else is" sets the pulse racing, doesn;t it?....:)

The only good thing I can say about his return is that I remember how bad Collins looked last season, and he's one of our top performers right now. Based on what I've witnessed first hand, players like Taylor wont get us promoted. Lets hope he gets the Collins treatment.

Given that Evans was beyond wank lasts eason but is now a superman, how about we give Taylor a chance to actually play in this league before we say hes utter shite.

** Olessendro groans **

Oh dear, what did we do to deserve 3 absolutely terrible left backs on the books??! I don't feel comfortable with any of these in the team. Taylor was shockingly bad before he got injured. At home vs Coventry last season he had one of the worst games I have seen a United player had. Look back at Deadbat's reports and you'll see he achieved a consistent 3/10 week in week out. Part of Blackwell's legacy. A poor excuse for a footballer (slow and poor positional sense) and a complete waste of a wage. Yet the mediocrity lovers welcome him back like he is Maldini.

I don't think all 3 are terrible, but the proposed signing of Williams permanently is baffling to say the least given that the other 2 are already on the books.

Taylor is a poor player, but he might "do a Collins" I suppose.

It's been nearly 12 months since Taylor played a league game. Even longer for Morgan. When was the last time we didn't have someone out for months on end on the books? 2008?

You remind me a lot of Les Dennis Ollie. You still exist but everyone wonders why you bother. Or perhaps Christopher Biggins?

I think Wilson see's LJF as future CB cover. With Taylor coming back and competing with Williams for the left back spot. Gives us a bit more cover across the back.

Legends both. I take it you don't have a (Whitehall subsidised) Pantomime season up there then?

The reality is it just gives a massive weak spot in the defense.

Quinn has been woeful lately.Against Carlisle, clean through on goal, unable to use the right foot, he ruined an attack, turning slowly round and allowing Carlisle to recover.Awful.:(

Gentlemen - these are facts:
LJF is very poor
Williams is very poor
Taylor is very poor
No matter how anyone dresses it up there isn't a decent full back between the three of them!
Trying to justify is just trying to accept mediocrity!

NO - because people make statements about our best options at the moment, thats not ''Trying to justify is just trying to accept mediocrity''. Think about it from a reality check point of view. Why is williams on loan - could he not get in his own team? same with clarke and phillips, they could not get in their own team - why because there is a difference between the championship and league 1- they are not good enough for the division above (although phillips may now have made the step up). Do we have the money to buy championship players - no so we have to fish around and scout for them and develope them. Thats not accepting mediocrity thats having faith in the manager to produce. Ive not rated williams since he came but if wilson buys him then instead of getting frustrated about him why not hope that he turns him in to a better player?
