As far as recruitment is concerned, I'm sure we're a little restricted by not being in a transfer window.... to take advantage of the situation with players in Russia is proactive if you ask me, not sure who else we could be signing considering our recent injury problems need addressing

I guess that means Goode is out for the rest of the season?

Shame, a 6ft 5 monster who could throw as far as Jack Robinson, without a run up!

Not taking anything away from the new lad, of course, was just nice to have a defender with a bit of height, if only for one game.
6 ft is plenty tall enough. He’s 1cm taller than Shearer and he never struggled in the air.

A striker, right back, midfield cover, erm....... :)

Fair play to the recruitment team for thinking outside of the box on this one. Agree, it clearly means Charlie Goode is out indefinitely.

Hopefully we can find a couple more from Ukraine / Russia. Surely some gems that could help us out. Strikers in particular would be handy.

That list makes grim reading but he's just broken into the national team of the current World Cup runners up.

Looking at those above, only Zivkovic, Retsos, Li Tie, Nalis and Sommeil have played at any sort of comparable level when they signed for us (imo).
I tend to think most on the list weren’t actually signed by the manager of the day.

Li Tie and Dong were tied in with McCabe’s interests in China. Haber was a makeweight in the Malta sponsorship.

All the Wilder era ones will have been Jan Van Winkel’s work.

Ribeiro is a strange one. Had a decent couple of seasons at Leeds in the Prem, signed by Heath and couldn’t force his way in to an awful side. He also had the two Belgians he barely used - I suspect another product of McCabe’s business connections given he was “living” in Brussels at the time.

Heckingbottom seems to be on board with this one which is a good side. I don’t think as “football manager” we will be signing anybody he doesn’t have plans for.

if only we'd kept Slav round, Serbian and Croatian are practically the same (thorny political issue), he'd be able to translate.
Yeah great, we'd have at least one player who knew what the fuck mad Slav was on about.

I’ll reserve judgement after getting all excited about signing Sweden’s number one.

Very wise. He comes with decent pedigree, but the jury's out until he's played.
I doubt the Russian Prem is anywhere near the intensity of the Championship.
However, I'm pleased the club have got cover there. As a minimum you'd expect him to be an upgrade on Kyron Gordon who's still learning men's football. It's a solid step in the right direction.

In my head this lad is already promising to be the next Jonas Wirmola (hopefully he does the business and stays a bit longer...)

The Rubin Kazan ground has an official capacity of 45,105.

However their average attendance this season is currently 6,717
and believe it or not, they are one of the better supported clubs in the top flight. The 5th best supported club to be precise.

Zenit St Petersburg are by far the best supported club in Russia, currently averaging 15,131 The other Russian clubs average from 1000 to 8000. The average in the Russian top flight is currently a very low 5,013.Some of our non league clubs better that figure.

So it will be a culture shock playing in front of 28K most weeks at Bramall Lane. Bet he's loving it.

I'm guessing he can cover Egan as well as Basham so it may be that Goode and this new lad cover both options. Hecky said that he didn't think Goode's injury was going to rule him out for the end of the season - I think!
