Sander Berge Haters

Think he's being wasted in cm imo. Needs to get put up to CAM in the duffy type role for me.
agree totally 2nd half he was played exactly where ive been advocating for him to play as an attacking midfielder he can do so much damage for us in that position driving on and going past players would still like him to do a bit more though hes capable

Give us Bob Bookers, John Gannons, and Nick Montgomery's every day of the week.
Berge is easily our best midfielder and probably the best we have had in years.
I really don't get what some of our fans are watching he rarely gives the ball away and is so comfortable on the ball.
Yes he does look a bit laid back, but just because he doesn't shout, go flying into tackles, kiss the badge and play up to the crowd our fans write him off, just like they did with Brewster.
Cut the guy a bit of slack he's had a bad time with injuries and is just coming back, he will only get better with game time. If he stays fit he will be a big player in our push for the top six.
This ⤴️⬆️🔝🔼⚔️👏🏻👏🏻👏🏻

Clear as day that pass was meant for Ndiaye

I disagree. Watch this replay from 1:10 onwards. Billy points for it and Sander slots it through to him. At 1:32 you can actually see him spot the run and play it through. Perhaps I've got rose tinted glasses on because I highly rate him, but that's my take for what it's worth!

I think he expected a move at Christmas and now knows he will have to put a bit more effort into it if he want's that move at the end of the season.
He's like Mousset skilful but not a Blades type player, just as our last manager wasn't a Blades type manager.
There are some on here who think that by adding a continental manager and some over seas players you can change the clubs style,
Their wrong......
Thank god

I’ve just watched Berges ball to Sharp a dozen times on the YouTube highlights, for me he 100% passes to Sharp, you can see him look at Sharp, Sharp points to where he wants it, Berge then delivers it with pin point accuracy. Great ball, great goal.

And this is why we will never establish ourselves in the Prem…..this plucky underdog with workhorses and team spirit will get you occasional success but its never quite good enough on its own.

The most successful way is obviously a balance between the two but some fans are so entrenched in the belief that any player we sign has to move his life to Sheffield and drink in the cricketers that any player or manager that doesnt conform to that doesnt have a chance with some fans.

Quite frankly this “oh he’s not a Sheffield United player” is total bollocks and its holding us back from really being one of the top 20 teams in the country.

OK so here is my tuppence worth. Just because I don't fawn over his every touch as brilliant doesn't mean that I know nothing about football.

He is skill full and does well when going past a player to the bye line to cut the ball back. That is what we have seen most of from his better moments.

On the negative side he is not athletic, poor at tackling and woeful at heading.

The question has always been how to get the best from him and in what position. Ideally he would work best at the forefront of a midfield diamond. Where covering ground up and down the pitch wouldn't be as required as much.

In our system I believe we should stick with him on the right of a 3 man midfield. To get the best of him from this position we need him to cut inside more and drive at the defence before sliding a ball through to strikers or runners.
His few good moments in the first half were in wide positions. But we are less effective with the slow wilderball overlap to the corners and the defence is usually ready and waiting.

Getting Berge and Fleck to vary their game and attack centrally more often. This will create more goal scoring opportunities and play to Billy's and Brewsters strengths.

So overall Berge is a decent player if used correctly and if he puts the effort in. Is he a Matt LeTissier as some of our fans believe.....No.
But getting the best from him will be key for the rest of our season.

Typical….lad threads a perfect pass to Sharp which the midfield greats over the years could spot and do regularly and some of our fans deem it a misplaced pass aiming for someone else. One even producing a still when the ball was already 5 yards since left his foot with another player trying to get to it to make their bullshit claim.

The reverse angle is clear…Berge running forwards, looks at sharp and where he wants it and puts it on a sixpence so Sharp doesn’t even need to change his stride or control it.
Slide rule, perfectly weighted and a top quality pass!

Enjoy it while it’s here, because if we don’t go up, him, Ndiaye, MGW, Bogle, Norwood, Fleck and strikers with the ability of Sharp and Brewster won’t be playing for us for a long time. It’s European 2nd and 3rd tier players on the way for the foreseeable while our young talents are hoovered up from above.
So stop with the agenda, stop with the weird joy of calling out one of our own players (whoever it is this week), stop getting on their backs and instead create the relaxed, enjoyable and supportive atmosphere that this club needs to gain some success FFS

...and not the only good ball he played last night.

Think we get lost in the physique, how much he cost etc and forget that he’s still only 23. No age at all

For whatever reason (probably the hype at the time we signed him, dunno) - Berge is judged extremely on either end of the 'shit - outstanding' spectrum by many on here.

The ones that don't rate him really overstate how bad/ineffective he's been.

The ones that rate him will take any bit of quality and use it as evidence he's the talent we all heard he was before signing.

Tonight - second half particularly, he was excellent. I'm not sure how any fair minded football fan (with some sort of understanding of what constitutes a good midfielder) could say otherwise.

We need him to do that more regularly, and we need him to do even more because he has it in him.
Enjoyed this on page one with the rest of the thread demonstrating just how insightful it was.

FWIW, I'm guilty of latter and get overly excited when drifts past a player on the byline.

And this is the kind of fan who thinks you have to have a foreign name in the side to play football, Tell me the old old story,
Take a good look at our last three overseas signings and manager and tell me they were an improvement, ?

We've been unlucky I guess........ :tumbleweed:

A "blades type" player or manager way of thinking is so tinpot it's unreal. If we ever want to achieve anything that needs to go

The lad sat behind me last night got it when he shouted "what's tha duckin' for Sander, you're seven foot chuffin tall"

If you don’t get how good Berge is at this level at least, then you never will

The bloke is a rolls Royce of a player

That was his second start since been out for 3/4 months also

If you want your players to run about and tackle then support Birmingham
You don’t want our players to run about and tackle?

He did nothing at all for 60 mins and then changed the game. It’s always been clear that he has the attributes to be a top player but he doesn’t have the mentality to put together a string of performances. He needs to do it for an hour, twice a week, for the rest of the season for me to believe he’s changed.
A lot of talk from hecky and Bogle after the match about players growing up and maturing I think a similar shift in mentality is needed from Berge.

I’m not saying he’s immature because he comes across as a very well spoken and clued up lad when he interviews but maybe a realisation needs to happen that he needs to adjust his mentality and for 90 minutes he can’t be the nicest bloke on the pitch.

He can’t tackle, head, track back, has no left foot, no heart, yes he has a sweet right foot but that does not make him our best midfielder in years 🤷‍♂️

I’ve literally said you need to strike a balance so you’re wrong there.

Our ONLY foreign manager was appointed with 0 plan in place so that one is on the board.

Berge is quite clearly one of the most technically gifted players in the squad so that has improved us instantly.

He is the most comfortable player on the ball that I have seen playing for the Blades in a very long time. And if you can't see that may I politely suggest you take up painting by numbers, Train spotting or making Tick Tick Videos because football is certainly not your forte..

Fair point, not many of them showed up in that first hour. I stand by the point that Berge needs to turn these flashes of ability into a string of consistent performances.
He needs a run of games in order to do that
