Who’s the worst of the worst?

Stewart wasn’t footballer. He looked like he wandered on to a football pitch by mistake. How he managed to play for as long as he did boggles the mind. It shows what having a good agent can do.

Robinson despite everything sometimes has a decent game. It might be 1 in 10 games but as others say he is probably league 1 standard.

I liked him but he didn’t stop long before he went to Birmingham was it? I always thought it smelled of us buying him from his old club as they wouldn’t deal with Birmingham. I live a conspiracy 😃

Tebily was good and quickly got poached by Birmingham.

Tebily didn't go from us to Birmingham, he went to Celtic.

He signed for Birmingham after that.

I'm with you there mate, although I was only a kid at the time. Poor player.

100% not a poor player. As I say, there is a decent argument that Gayle is our best central defender over the last 40 years. Other shouts are:

Paul McGrath. He was undoubtedly the ‘best’ but it was only a brief stint.
Phil Jagielka. Definitely a good argument for him too.
Jack O’Connell. Like Gayle, he was part of a side that finished 9th in the top flight. JOC clearly better on the ball than Gayle, but I’d definitely rather have Gayle in a back two.
Chris Morgan. A great leader like Gayle, but Gayle had better attributes (better in the air, better reading of the game).
David Holdsworth. Very classy and a great leader too. But only in the second tier - I think he would have struggled week in, week out at the very top.
Gary Cahill. Was fantastic in his loan spell.
Paul Stancliffe. Fantastic servant and leader, but would have struggled in the top flight.

Players like Paul Beesley, David Tuttle, Scott Marshall, John Egan, Chris Basham, Lee Sandford, Shaun Murphy, Rob Page, Matthew Kilgallon etc. had great games but were never consistent. Traianos Dellas became a brilliant central defender, but he didn’t play there for us. Same for Kyle Walker.

I never rated Claude Davis, for who we paid a then club record fee of £3m (at the same time as Everton paid about the same for Lescott). I thought he had the rare gift of looking shit at whatever level he played at.

If we are slaughtering sacred cows, I never rated Beesley either.

Michael Vonk had some good games.

Only played a few games, but Mark Blount was a shocker. And Brian Smith used to make us laugh out loud. Claude Davis was piss poor as well. (Bought to replace Morgs - Christ!). Les Tibbett anyone?

That’s it Celtic then Birmingham in quick succession if I remember … there were a few three club transfers like that around that time …

Out of all of Wilder’s bizarre signings, he’s up there with the absolute worst.

He was Forest’s third choice left back and we decide to pay money for him whilst we were flying in the PL. Why?

No other club in the top two divisions would have done that. I think Forest must have thought it was an elaborate joke.

I feel sorry for him because there’s no way he should be playing regular football at this level. It’s negligence from the management and actually unfair on him because he’s so clearly out of his depth. It’s painful to watch.

The best thing to do would be to pay up his contract and hopefully a lower L1/ L2 side gives him a contract so he can play in an environment he would be more comfortable in.
Wonder how Wilder will cope with a chairman who actually goes to the games. Don’t think he’ll make a mistake like Robinson again...More to our cost.

im unsure between nosworthy & Maguire. because nosworthy was dreadful many issues over the entire loan. 1 that stands out is remember him just disappearing when hull counter attacking just vanished. it was like he ran down the tunnel. cost us the game late on & was outshone by a 17yr Maguire who had never played senior football

or Mceveley who i would say is similar to Robinson in many ways, as he is capable of having decent games. as mceveley was brilliant at Old Trafford. it was his only decent game but majority of the times & absolute liability i felt we always 1-0 at kick off as he would always have some balls up as some point just when

Steve Yates was pretty shit. Really shit, in fact.
Id forgotten about him.

What about 5'8" emergency centre back when you've fallen out with your recognised centre backs Craig Alcock?

Davis had a great partnership with Youl Mawene at PNE. With hindsight Mawene was the brains of the outfit.

Oliver Bombscare Tebilly was the most worrying defender I've seen.

There are so many worse than Robinson, who played ok in half a dozen EPL games.

You must have him confused with someone else. There's a reason Celtic came a calling

Robbo has at least one "skill", he can throw the ball really far. Some of the others couldn't even do that.

A few weeks ago, maybe longer I was listening to Bladespod and Ben was having a go at Roger Nilson which surprised me. I always thought he was one of our better left backs and certainly the better of our Norwegian players? Am I wrong?

As a left back he was. Unfortunately in true SUFC style with a number of our left backs we decided to play him at centre back. Result as happens with all players who are really full backs they fail to track runners behind them.

Robinson is the perfect modern day example of this. See how he is ball watching for Prestons first goal and fails to see Brownes run into the box. RN was the same when we moved him. Could play well for 85 mins but always had a mistake in him at centre half when he lost his man. Same with Mceveley and others. We really have been cursed with left backs over the years not helped by coaching staff who think they can convert players from their natural positions.

GK Lee Baxter
RB Tony Moore
LB Les Tibbott
CB Steve Faulkner
CB Nyron Nosworthy

The stuff of nightmares. Then again it would have potentially the greatest comedy potential ever seen on a football pitch.

Calamity Jay, for me. Robinson has had decent games for us in the Premier League and was fine against Fulham 3 games ago. McEveley was the shits in League One.

Ampadu is nowhere near this discussion. He did OK as a 20 year old in a team that was having a really bad time.
